12 Mar 26. DSEI Germany: the country’s most significant new Defence event set to focus on “securing Europe”

As the security architecture that has safeguarded Europe for 70 years is under threat, the themes for Germany’s largest defence and security exhibition have been announced by Managing Director Bernd Kögel.

Coming at a defining moment for Europe’s security landscape, the overarching theme for DSEI Germany is ‘Securing Europe: Advancing defence capability and strategic cooperation’.

Taking place at the Hannover Messe exhibition grounds – Europe’s largest exhibition venue – from 9-12 March 2027, DSEI Germany will serve as the premier forum to bring together government officials, military, industry, and experts across Europe, NATO and allied nations to drive conversations around joint deterrence, procurement, interoperability, and industrial capacity, ensuring that Europe is able to ‘fight tonight and fight tomorrow’.

A platform for policy, military, and industrial issues

DSEI Germany will support Germany’s initiative to take the lead as Europe’s strongest conventional armed forces, while showcasing the strength of Germany’s defence and manufacturing industries on an international stage.

Well established Defence Companies such as Rheinmetall, Diehl Defence and Hensoldt, offer insights and emerging players will demonstrate their capabilities across the show floor.

With one year until the debut of the show, the Hannover Messe exhibition grounds will span the entire value chain – from suppliers to OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers). Specialised exhibition areas reflect the structure of the Bundeswehr, with a focus on land, air and space, sea, cyber and information, and joint support. The significant wave of companies transitioning into Defence from the German automotive and manufacturing sectors will feature in an “Industrial Solutions” area. The Federation of German Security and Defence Industries (BDSV) and its members will also have a strong presence at the event.

A new chapter for European defence and security

As we transition into an emerging world order that requires a fundamental shift in security policy, DSEI Germany will also host a conference for senior military, government, and industry leaders to examine NATO’s urgent security challenges and shape Europe’s response to rising global instability and uncertainty.

The conference will be driven by the main theme of Securing Europe: Advancing defence capability and strategic cooperation, while three sub-themes will guide discussions throughout the event:

Collective deterrence and joint readiness: presenting a unified front

This sub-theme explores multi-domain operations across land, air, sea, space, and cyber domains among partners

Strengthening industrial capacity and resilience: building resilient, competitive and sustainable supply chains

Germany’s strong manufacturing base positions it to lead Europe’s push for greater industrial capacity and strategic autonomy.

Europe must expand investments in conventional and emerging technologies to meet current and future threats.

With DSEI Germany, Germany can establish an important platform to showcase its defence industrial performance, technological leadership and innovative strength on the international stage.”

Aim

The aim is to bring together the military, academia, and industry to discuss current and future developments in close combat and dismounted technologies and procedures. It will also consider current and future equipment pipelines.

Theme

With thanks to Army HQ, the Theme for 2026 is outlined below.

Technology has arguably shifted the fundamental nature of conflict by making “information dominance” (the ability to sense, decide, and strike through a contested digital ecosystem) the primary determinant of tactical outcomes—such that dismounted close combat is no longer chiefly decided by physical closing and firepower at short range, but by the side that best survives and manoeuvres on an increasingly transparent battlefield through signature management, distributed sensing, and integration into multi-domain kill webs.

Has technology altered the nature of conflict—rather than merely its character—such that success in dismounted close combat is now primarily determined by information dominance (find, decide, integrate effects) rather than physical closing and firepower at close range?

What capabilities most directly determine survivability and lethality for the dismounted soldier on a transparent battlefield? For example: is it weapons, protection, sensors, power and energy, networks and software or signature management?
Is the dismounted soldier primarily a manoeuvre element, or a mobile sensor/decision/targeting node?
What are the limiting factors on dismounted effectiveness? For example: physical load, cognitive load, power and battery endurance, bandwidth and network resilience, or training and trust in systems?
What new skills and behaviours must dismounted soldiers master to fight effectively in an information-dominated close battle? What training capabilities exist to meet this challenge?

Format

The event is planned to be held over three days.

30th June: Day 1, is at the Defence Academy of the UK in Shrivenham and provides insight from Army HQ and other customers on their intent for the future. This is supplemented by presentations from academia and industry.
1st July: Day 2 takes place at Cranfield University’s COTEC range facility on Salisbury Plain. This involves live-firing demonstrations from industry as well as an opportunity for delegates to fire small arms from different manufacturers and with different optics and technologies. There is also the opportunity to showcase and demonstrate autonomous and remote technologies.
2nd July: Day 3 is back at Shrivenham and provides more technology briefs from industry and academia.

Founded by the General Authority for Military Industries (GAMI), World Defense Show 2026 entered its third day with a focus on diverse air and land demonstrations, alongside broad participation from official delegations, government entities, and international companies specializing in defense, security, and advanced technologies. Day Three featured the launch of key programs designed to bring government end-users, international industry leaders, innovators, and suppliers into direct dialogue – reflecting the show’s role as a global platform linking operational needs with emerging technologies, in line with Saudi Vision 2030.

The “Meet the KSA Government” program, held in the Auditorium (Hall 2), opened with a series of strategic briefings from senior officials across the Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Interior, National Cybersecurity Authority, and National Guard. Speakers outlined evolving operational requirements, national security priorities, capability gaps, and opportunities for industry partnership. The sessions enabled exhibitors to engage directly with decision-makers, strengthening alignment between national defense needs and industrial capacity.

His Excellency Ahmad Abdulaziz Al-Ohali, Governor of GAMI, underscored the importance of these interactions, stating: “WDS is a platform where vision becomes connection – where government, industry, and innovators come together to advance the Kingdom’s defense priorities. These programs deepen understanding, accelerate collaboration, and reinforce Saudi Arabia’s commitment to building an integrated and future-ready defense ecosystem.”

At the Future Defense Lab, held in Hall 1 North, experts presented new insights on emerging technologies shaping the future battlespace, including AI-enabled systems, disruptive digital capabilities, quantum applications, and next-generation space operations. Panels brought together Saudi and international leaders to discuss how integrated technologies enhance readiness, interoperability, and national resilience. The Lab served as a high-value space for innovators and policymakers to connect research with real-world application. Meanwhile, the Saudi Supply Chain Zone (Hall 3) continued to operate as a dynamic marketplace linking Saudi SMEs and advanced manufacturers with global primes, R&D organizations, and procurement leaders. Sessions throughout the day examined localization pathways, partnerships, technology transfer, and opportunities for industrial investment – reinforcing the Kingdom’s accelerating momentum in defense manufacturing and supply chain development.

Some UAE companies have pulled out of a major defence show taking place in Saudi Arabia, two sources with direct knowledge of the matter told Reuters, the latest sign that a rift between the two Gulf oil powers is seeping into business interests.

The World Defense Show is set to take place in the Saudi capital Riyadh from February 8-12. It was not immediately clear if all the UAE participants involved in the country pavilion had withdrawn.

There was no immediate comment by the UAE foreign ministry or the Saudi government media office on the matter.

TRICKLE-DOWN EFFECT

Once the twin pillars of regional security, the two Gulf heavyweights have seen their interests diverge on everything from oil quotas to geopolitics.

Their disagreements came out into the open in December when an advance by a UAE-backed southern Yemeni separatist group brought it too close to Saudi borders for comfort and quickly escalated to a Saudi-led coalition strike on a UAE-linked weapons shipment at the port of Mukalla.

The UAE has since withdrawn all its forces from Yemen, but tensions have grown with Saudi Arabia alleging the UAE had helped a leading Yemeni separatist figure escape through Somalia.

The UAE withdrawal from the annual defence event shows the disagreement between the two oil powers could spill over into the many trade and investment relations that bind them together.

While cross-border dealmaking remains largely unaffected for now, tensions are starting to trickle down to the business community which has been quietly preparing for potential disruptions even as day-to-day commerce continues, two Gulf-based business sources have said.

REGIONAL PRECEDENT

The longer this latest Gulf feud lingers the more fears are likely to grow within the business community of a repeat of something similar to the trade boycott that hit Qatar in 2017 during its own standoff with Gulf neighbours. Saudi Arabia and the UAE have $30 bn in trade ties, with goods and executives constantly moving between the two. During the Qatar blockade, which ended in 2021, some Saudi‑linked funds imposed restrictions preventing capital from being deployed there — conditions investors fear could re‑emerge if the current rift widens. At the time, banks had to choose whether to be on the side of the UAE and Saudi or Qatar. This time around, the stakes are high with the two economies intricately connected. Numerous Saudi family‑owned conglomerates and major firms maintain significant operations and personnel in the UAE, where many of their commercial leadership teams are based. Questions that would have been unthinkable months ago about potential disruptions to flight schedules and supply chains are now part of internal risk assessments, the two Gulf-based business sources said.

04 Feb 26. Russian arms makers vanish from Asia’s largest airshow. Russian defense companies have vanished from major airshows in Asia, which experts say reflects the country’s shrinking and increasingly concentrated arms-export industry. For the second consecutive year, Russian manufacturers were absent from the roster of attendees at the Singapore Airshow, the largest aerospace exhibition in Asia, which runs from Feb. 3-8. Moscow previously had a much larger presence at the event, even launching joint exhibition pavilions at the 2020 show for Russian Helicopters and United Aircraft Corporation, which was attended by a range of officials. The country also used to showcase several aircraft models.

“What we are seeing is not a strategic pivot away from Asia, but a forced reallocation under severe structural constraints,” said Francesco Schiavi, research fellow at the Middle East Institute Switzerland. “Russia’s absence from these key shows reflects the shrinking, regionalized and increased concentration of its arms-export profile that has been exacerbated by the war in Ukraine.”

Russia’s arms exports to Asian customers peaked from around 2005 to 2011. During this period, it won major contracts with India and China. According to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, in 2025, Beijing accounted for 60% of all Russian deliveries of major weapons.

A reminiscence of this past at this year’s airshow is the modified Sukhoi Su-30 MKM jets that the Malaysian Air Force flew during an aerial performance here. A Russian delegation led by the Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu did visit Myanmar this week to sign a military cooperation agreement. Over the last year, Russian arms makers have increasingly courted potential Middle East customers, especially in the Gulf region. This has, in part, translated to reinforcing their presence at defense fairs, as was the case at the IDEX and NAVDEX exhibitions in February 2025 in Abu Dhabi. The country had over a dozen exhibitors that afforded a prominent display of weaponry and pitched upgraded variants of their weapons.

Schiavi added that Moscow’s outreach to the Middle East and Africa is “selective and compensatory,” citing Algeria’s Su-57 purchase and continued engagement with Mali, eastern Libya and Ethiopia as examples.

Russian President Vladimir Putin recently said the national arms industry earned more than $15 bn in export revenues last year; however, the expert said that this figure has been widely questioned by Western analysts.

It is important to note that since February 2022, Moscow has not published official defense export information, rendering the verification process more challenging.

Russia also flew some of its military equipment to Saudi Arabia weeks ahead of the World Defense Show taking place next week. 19 Jan 26. Motshekga officially launches AAD 2026 during silver anniversary celebration. The Africa Aerospace and Defence (AAD) exhibition is one of the longest running such events on the continent, and is celebrating 25 years of existence. Defence Minister Angie Motshekga was the main functionary at an anniversary event and official launch of the 2026 edition at Air Force Base Waterkloof.

Delivering her keynote address on Thursday 15 January, Motshekga said AAD is a global and continental platform that allows exhibitors to engage on the evolving nature of the industry. The exhibition, Motshekga said, promotes exports that sustain the defence industry, firms up partnerships, attracts investment, cultivates skills, and strengthens Africa’s industrial base.

As no nation can meet the challenges of security by themselves, AAD allows participants to share knowledge and strengthen partnerships. Motshekga emphasised the critical role of defence in ensuring stability and fostering development, as a safe and secure environment attracts investment, stimulates growth, and allows economies to thrive. “Peace efforts may not always make headlines but their impact is real as economies can thrive,” she said. Defence, for example, plays a developmental role by securing borders.

Mike Clark, President of the Commercial Aviation Association of Southern Africa (CAASA), said AAD is the largest aerospace and defence platform on the continent, and has stood the test of time, including enduring the Covid-19 pandemic. “Through resilience we pivoted back to healthy and thriving status.”

“This expo is a bridge between nations, people, and industry, bringing them together for shared progress.” He said government recognition as strategic national event underscores the importance of AAD, with the 2026 iteration set to be a groundbreaking edition.

Entrepreneur and AAD Youth Development Programme Chairperson Kholisile Khumalo highlighted the economic impact of AAD, which amounts to R500 m, according to a University of Pretoria study.

Part of the official launch on Thursday 15 January included an awards ceremony, with Contribution to AAD awards presented to members of the South African National Defence Force, CAASA, Aero Club of South Africa, Air Show South Africa, and AAD organisers. Winners of the AAD photographic competition were announced: Meghan McCabe received top spot for her winning photo, receiving a R6 000 prize, while Sebastian Horrell received R5 000 as the youth category winner. Francois Louw received R4 000 as the runner-up.

After Motshekga officially launched the 2026 edition of AAD, Exhibition Director Nakedi Phasha said it is now all systems go. “We are building a launchpad for Africa’s airspace and defence future. AAD 2026 is set to be bigger, better and bolder. AAD is not just an event but a platform to be reckoned with. As the longest serving such exhibition in Africa, it has stood the test of time.”

AAD a national event

AAD 2026, scheduled to take place from 16 to 20 September 2026 at Air Force Base Waterkloof, has been formally declared a national event by the South African government, signalling commitment to strengthening South Africa’s aerospace, defence and advanced manufacturing capacity.

“It also broadens the platform’s relevance by giving companies outside the traditional defence environment, including those in mining, information and communication technology, engineering and high-precision manufacturing, a space to showcase dual-use technologies that support both industrial and national capability,” Phasha said.

AAD organisers and its partners, Armscor, the Aerospace, Maritime and Defence Industries Association of South Africa (AMD) and CAASA, remain committed to ensure local manufacturers remain connected to international markets despite growing uncertainty.

“Through collaboration with the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition, South African firms also participate in key international exhibitions under the national pavilion programme, widening their visibility and improving export readiness,” Phasha told Engineering News.

She said that universities, research institutions and technology bodies use AAD to connect with industry, helping to support innovation across civilian aviation, space, robotics and advanced manufacturing. AAD’s impact has seen international partnerships formed at the exhibition resulting in joint ventures, co-production agreements and meaningful technology transfer into South Africa’s industrial base.

01 Dec 25. Hanwha Aerospace will participate in the Egypt Defence Expo (EDEX) 2025, held in Cairo from December 1. The company plans to present a comprehensive range of ground and air defence solutions tailored for Egypt. A key highlight of Hanwha Aerospace’s exhibition is the Chunmoo Multiple Rocket Launcher System (MRLS). The company will display full-scale models of four different types of Chunmoo guided missiles including the Anti-Ship Ballistic Missile(ASBM). With ranges extending from 80km to 290km, showcasing the system’s versatility and firepower. Hanwha Aerospace aims to position the Chunmoo system as the optimal MRLS solution for Egyptian Armed Forces. The system is designed to meet the region’s modernization needs, leveraging its field-proven operational performance in Poland and other Middle Eastern nations. The company will also demonstrate the progress of its K9 Self-Propelled Howitzer program. With local co-production in Egypt set to begin, Hanwha is presenting the full “K9 Package,” which includes the K10 Ammunition Resupply Vehicle and the K11 Fire Direction Center Vehicle. Completing this artillery portfolio, Hanwha will also exhibit advanced ammunition solutions, including 155mm Precision Guided Munitions and the Modular Charge System (MCS). Making its debut at EDEX 2025 is the K11-N, a fire direction armored vehicle specifically customized for the Egyptian Navy’s coastal defence requirements. The K11-N is equipped with advanced target acquisition systems, including an Electro-Optical Targeting System (EOTS) and radar, enabling precise tracking of hostile vessels. Addressing the growing demand for multi-layered air defence in the Middle East and Africa, Hanwha Aerospace will also propose its integrated air defence solutions. These include the L-SAM (Long-range Surface-to-Air Missile), M-SAM (Medium-range Surface-to-Air Missile), and anti-drone systems. 29 Nov 25. This brief round-up focusses on just a few of the interesting subjects I spotted at the MILIPOL Paris defence and security expo last week, writes Bob Morrison. MILIPOL Paris, held at Parc des Expositions to the north of the French capital in November of alternate years to EUROSATORY, is more focussed on police and homeland security than the more military-orientated June expo taking place at the same venue in even years. Geared predominantly though not exclusively towards French and Western European markets, is also a little smaller than EUROSATORY and doesn’t feature anything like as much heavy equipment but that does not mean it is not worth visiting; indeed this is the fourth successive biennial event I have attended since the formation of JOINT-FORCES in 2018.

Like many of the smaller expos I attend, MILIPOL is primarily a combination of a research trip to ensure we are reasonably up to speed on new or forthcoming developments and a way of supporting our key sponsors / advertisers to publicise their products and systems. With the exception of a small number of ‘old faces’, quite a few journalists seem content to sit at their computer terminal, venturing out into the big world only to visit their national defence expo for a day or two and maybe attend the occasional Ministry-spun ‘media opportunity’… but whenever possible Carl and I prefer to try to be a little ahead of the curve rather than being behind it.

On the military scene, drones and counter-drones have very much been the topic of the day since Russia launched its thwarted invasion attempt on Kiev and its stalled advances through Eastern Ukraine back in February 2022 and the Ukrainian’s responded by thinking ‘out-of-the-box’ and finding makeshift ways of defeating them. On the homeland security side in Western Europe, however, much of the focus is still more on supplying police and gendarmerie with modernised kit to help them do their job better and more comfortably. That’s why boots and vehicles were my primary focus over the two full days I had devoted to covering MILIPOL from the halls despite my rather packed diary schedule this autumn.

Although Carl covered the last EUROSATORY on his own to take the pressure off me while I was undergoing medical treatment, he couldn’t do the same for me at MILIPOL as his presence was needed at the Rollout of First Leopard 2A8 Tanks in Munich ~ which unfortunately coincided with Day 2 of the French expo. Sometimes I am jealous of our Belgian friend Alain and his Army Recognition Team when they turn up mob-handed to cover defence expos… though I don’t envy him his stress levels one little bit.

24 Nov 25. Pilot killed as Indian Air Force Tejas crashes at Dubai Airshow. Local media report that the show was suspended temporarily following the incident. An Indian Air Force (IAF) Tejas light combat aircraft crashed during the concluding flying display at the United Arab Emirates’ Dubai Airshow on Friday (21 November 2025), resulting in the death of the pilot. According to reports carried by Press Trust of India, the single-engine fighter went down at approximately 2:10 p.m. local time while executing an aerobatic routine in front of spectators. Footage from the show area capture the aircraft completing part of its display sequence before abruptly losing height and descending at speed. Seconds later, a plume of black smoke was seen rising from the crash site, prompting the crowd in nearby viewing enclosures along the runway to withdraw rapidly, local outlet Gulf News reported. Confirming the loss, the Indian Air Force stated on X: “An IAF Tejas aircraft met with an accident during an aerial display at Dubai Air Show, today. The pilot sustained fatal injuries in the accident. IAF deeply regrets the loss of life and stands firmly with the bereaved family in this time of grief. A court of inquiry is being constituted, to ascertain the cause of the accident.” Dubai Airshow, one of the world’s largest aerospace and defence exhibitions, opened on 17 November and is scheduled to run until 24 November. The 2025 edition features more than 1,500 exhibitors, over 200 aircraft, according to information from the show’s website. Gulf News reported that authorities suspended the show temporarily after the incident. The crash occurred a day after Indian authorities rejected social media claims that the Tejas had suffered an oil leak earlier during the Dubai Airshow 2025. The government’s Press Information Bureau (PIB) Fact Check unit clarified that videos circulating online actually depicted a deliberate and routine procedure, not a technical failure. On Thursday, 20 November 2025, PIB Fact Check unit, explained on X that the footage showed “routine, intentional draining of condensed water from the aircraft’s Environmental Control System (ECS) and On-Board Oxygen Generating System (OBOGS),” describing this as standard practice for aircraft operating in high-humidity environments such as Dubai. The Tejas, designed and produced by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), is a supersonic, all-weather, multi-role light combat aircraft. It is fielded in a single-seat fighter configuration and a twin-seat trainer version under India’s Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) programme. The first technology demonstrator conducted its maiden flight in January 2001, followed by a second prototype in June 2002. The initial series-production Tejas flew in April 2007, while the trainer variant undertook its first flight in November 2009. HAL chairman and managing director D. K. Sunil stated in June 2025 that the IAF is expected to receive at least six additional Tejas aircraft by March 2026, as part of the service’s broader induction plans for the type. Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, His Excellency Mohamed bin Mubarak bin Fadhel Al Mazrouei, UAE Minister of State for Defence Affairs, today inaugurated the 12th edition of the Dubai International Air Chiefs Conference. The opening ceremony was attended by His Excellency Dr. Ahmad Belhoul Al Falasi, Minister of Sports and Chairman of the UAE Space Agency; His Excellency Lt. General (Staff) Ibrahim Nasser Al Alawi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Defence; and Major General Rashid Mohammed Al Shamsi, Commander of the UAE Air Force and Air Defence. The opening ceremony at Atlantis, The Palm, Dubai, witnessed the participation of more than 100 official delegations from around the world alongside senior officers from the Ministry of Defence, Air Force commanders, Chiefs of Staff from friendly and allied nations, as well decision-makers and chief executives from major national, regional, and international companies specialising in defence, aviation, advanced technologies, space sciences, and artificial intelligence. The conference was organised by the UAE Ministry of Defence in strategic partnership with ADNEC Group, under the theme ?Hypersonic Edge: Re-Envisioning Airpower Across Asymmetric Spaces.? Held ahead of the Dubai Airshow 2025, the event continues to strengthen its position as one of the leading global strategic forums in the fields of air and space defence.

Session 1

The first session titled ?Hypersonics, UAVs, and Artificial Intelligence: Adapting Airpower to Asymmetric Battlespaces? opened with an introductory remark by Joseph Guastella, Corporate Vice President and Regional Executive for Europe and Middle East at Northrop Grumman.

The session, moderated by Guastella, featured Major General Rashid Mohammed Al Shamsi, Commander of the UAE Air Force and Air Defence, who spoke about airpower in transition.

General Adrian L. Spain, Commander of the US Air Combat Command, discussed hypersonics in the modern fight, speed, precision, and integration.

General Jérôme Bellanger, Chief of the Staff of the French Air Force and Space, addressed the strategic adaptation of preparing air forces for disruption at scale.

The session concluded with remarks by Lieutenant General J.R. Speiser-Blanchet, Commander of the Royal Canadian Air Force, on building coalition agility and leading through emerging airpower challenges, followed by an interactive discussion with official delegations.

Session 2

Titled Beyond the Atmosphere: Integrating Air and Space Capabilities for Strategic Superiority,? the second session began with an introductory remark by Mike Shoemaker, Vice President and General Manager of the Integrated Fighter Group at Lockheed Martin Aeronautics.

The session, moderated by Shoemaker, was attended by Major General Vincent Chusseau, Commander of the French Space Command, who discussed Mission assurance in the multi-domain fight and integrating for advantage.

His Excellency Eng. Salem Butti Al Qubaisi, Director General of the UAE Space Agency, presented the role of the Agency in strengthening national capabilities and connecting them with advanced defence frameworks, through a paper titled From Orbit to Impact: Operationalizing Space for Air Superiority.

Air Marshal Stephen Chappell, Chief of the Royal Australian Air Force, presented a paper titled: Air and space: crafting a resilient, multi-domain force, followed by Air Marshal Narmdeshwar Tiwari, Vice Chief of Air staff, Indian Air Force, who discussed an Indo-Pacific perspective on operationalising space for air superiority.

Session 3

The third and final session, titled The Warfighter of Tomorrow: Standards, Artificial Intelligence, and Accountability in Next-Generation Airpower, opened with an introductory remark by Dr. Chaouki Kasmi, President of Technology and Innovation at EDGE Group.

The session, moderated by Kasmi, was attended by Major General Jonas Wickman, Commander of the Swedish Air Force, discussed rethinking recruitment and building the future force.

General Son Sug Rag, Chief of Staff of the Republic of Korea Air Force, addressed Mastering asymmetric spaces: redefining the warfighter for the future.

Lieutenant General Antonio Conserva, Chief of the Italian Air Forces, touched on the topic Standards under pressure: maintaining excellence in the age of automation.

Professor Peter Hays from the Space Policy Institute at George Washington University, presented a paper titled ?Learning to Learn: Building Intellectual Readiness for the Future Space Battlespace.?

The discussion concluded with an official recognition ceremony for participants and a group photo session.

11 Nov 25. Rostec to Unveil the Yak-130M and the Domestically Produced Ansat-M at Dubai Airshow 2025. The International Aerospace Exhibition will be held on November 17-21 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Rostec State Corporation will showcase dozens of samples of its products at the Dubai Airshow 2025 International Aerospace Exhibition. The upgraded Yak-130M jet trainer and combat aircraft and the domestically produced Ansat-M helicopter will be presented abroad for the first time. In addition, the Su-57E fifth-generation Russian fighter jet will make its debut in the Middle East and take part in the flying display. The Yak-130M aircraft produced by the United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) features a new aviation weapons system and airborne equipment. The upgraded aircraft is designed for the training of pilots of fourth- and fifth-generation fighters, as well as for strike and fighter missions as a light combat aircraft. The introduction of new airborne systems will enable the Yak-130M to operate both in the daytime and at night in any conditions, and will expand its combat capabilities. The event will also mark the world premiere of the domestically produced version of the Ansat-M light multipurpose helicopter built by Russian Helicopters, with Russian VK-650V engines produced by United Engine Corporation. The aircraft, which made its maiden flight this autumn, features an upgraded fuselage, a new powerplant and airborne systems. The helicopter is highly maneuverable and has the most spacious cabin in its class. It can perform a wide range of tasks, including in dense urban areas. The capabilities of Russia’s most advanced aircraft systems, namely the Su-57E fifth-generation fighter and the Ka-52 reconnaissance and attack helicopter, will also be showcased in the skies over Dubai. Thanks to a coaxial rotor configuration, the Ka-52 is unique in terms of its maneuverability, as it can quickly turn towards the target, and is capable of high-speed lateral movement and steep dives. In turn, the Su-57E aircraft will perform an aerobatic display. It is the world’s only fifth-generation fighter that has proven its efficiency in large-scale combat operations. It is capable of using a wide range of precision guided weapons and is characterized by low visibility to enemy radars.

The Il-76MD-90A(E) military transport aircraft and the Ka-32A11M transport helicopter will also be on static display.

In addition, participants and visitors to the exhibition will be shown next-generation aircraft engines, air defense systems, navigation systems and airborne equipment. A wide range of modern and next-generation munitions, such as unguided and guided air-launched missiles, as well as powerful bombs, including high-explosive fragmentation bombs and bunker-busting bombs, will be presented. Blighter (www.blighter.com), a pioneering designer and manufacturer of ground-based electronic-scanning micro-Doppler radars, is targeting further sales of its smart/cognitive border surveillance and coastal security radars in Southeast Asia with its debut appearance at Defense & Security 2025 in Bangkok, Thailand. Defense & Security 2025 is the Association of Southeast Asian Nations’ (ASEAN) biennial defense and security event which is taking place from the 10-13 November 2025 at the IMPACT Exhibition & Convention Centre, Bangkok, Thailand. The event attracts over 25,000 participants from over 40 countries including the regions’ highest-ranking officials from the Army, Navy, and Air Forces as well as Ministries of Defense, Chiefs of Police, Coast Guard, and other government bodies.

Blighter’s non-rotating, solid-state, low SWaP (size, weight and power) electronic scanning radars provide 360-degrees of uninterrupted rapid surveillance over a wide area detecting moving vehicles/vessels, persons (including ‘crawlers’) and near ground aerial threats at ranges of up to 32 km. The radars’ compact and modular design enables rapid deployment on towers and vehicles, and as dismounted portable systems on tripods.

According to Blighter, its most recent contract wins in the region came from a southeast Asian military customer that has installed B400 radars onto army vehicles for rapid deployment to border infiltration hotspots. In addition, over 100 of its radar units have been successfully guarding the 250km Korean Demilitarised Zone (DMZ) for over a decade.

Blighter operates through a network of partners across the region and supports the local assembly of certain products to enable indigenous manufacture. Blighter is represented in Thailand by Defentec Ltd. a subsidiary company of Hollywood International Ltd. Defentec is based in Rajtawee, Bangkok.

The International Institute for Strategic Studies, together with the Government of the Kingdom of Sweden and the Swedish Defence Research Agency, will co-host a major new forum on civil defence. The purpose of the conference is to discuss the future and the development of modern civil defence architecture in Europe. The IISS Stockholm Civil Defence Forum will take place in the Swedish capital, bringing together political, military and industrial leaders to engage in discussions on how to tackle current challenges to modern civil defence. Topics of discussions are likely to include the future of civil defence, civil-military cooperation and the critical role for industry and technology. Scheduled for April 2026, the IISS Stockholm Civil Defence Forum will become the latest summit staged by the IISS. The Institute has a global reputation as the convenor of world-renowned defence and security summits which engage governments, the private sector and the expert community to advance defence diplomacy. Given Russia’s direct military and hybrid threats, the development of modern civil defence architectures across Europe is becoming more and more important for governments and industry. For over 20 years the IISS – headquartered in London with offices in Berlin, Washington DC, Bahrain and Singapore – has convened the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore and the Manama Dialogue in Bahrain, the flagship defence and security summits in the Indo-Pacific and the Middle East regions.
