23 Oct 25. The Global Special Operations Foundation (GSOF) will host the annual Modern Warfare Week 17-20 November at Fayetteville area venues jointly sponsored by the U.S. Army Special Operations Command (USASOC).  Modern Warfare Week (MWW) convenes the SOF community here to both educate and connect through discussions about the future of warfare from a Special Operations Forces (SOF) perspective.

“In 2024 we had more than 1,300 attendees here in Fayetteville and 47% were military or government representatives,” said Stu Bradin, President and CEO of the Global SOF Foundation. “Join us at Modern Warfare Week; be part of the conversation on future capabilities, enrich your service through our seminars, and come to Demo Day to see the leading-edge technology being fielded by SOF to meet current and future threats”.

Events of Modern Warfare Week Include:

A sold-out exhibition hall at the Iron Mike Conference Center with more than 90 cutting-edge industry exhibitors, non-profit organizations, outdoor static displays, and networking opportunities.

A two-day symposium at the Iron Mike Conference Center on Ft. Liberty, NC. The agenda details the lineup of speakers: https://mww.gsofsymposium.org/agenda/

An Interactive Demo Day at The Range Complex in Autryville, NC (20 NOV) with state-of-the-art weaponry and tactical gear in use. Attendees will explore advancements that will revolutionize the way that SOF engages in modern warfare.

22 Oct 25. Today marks the opening of the Global Security and Innovation Summit (GSIS) at the CCH – Congress Center Hamburg, ushering in a new era of strategic dialogue. Jointly initiated by Hamburg Messe und Congress (HMC) and the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS), the event brings together leading figures from technology, politics, research, and business on 22 and 23 October 2025 to address the security and technological challenges of our time. The Global Security and Innovation Summit positions itself as a global platform that combines strategic dialogue with curated innovation impulses from business and research. “With GSIS, we are creating a format that blends strategic foresight with innovative strength. Hamburg offers the ideal setting for this – as a European hub with global reach and a strong tradition of international exchange,” said Heiko M. Stutzinger, CEO of Hamburg Messe und Congress. Over two days, around 40 renowned speakers and participants from across the globe will engage in numerous panels and networking formats to discuss global issues such as the impact of geopolitical tensions, resource competition, technological disruption, and resilience – in an interdisciplinary and highly solution-oriented manner. “The security challenges of our time demand new answers. The Global Security and Innovation Summit brings together thought leaders from politics, business, academia, and civil society under one roof to develop solutions – across disciplines and borders,” said Dr Bastian Giegerich, Director-General of the IISS. One of the highlights of the first conference day is the GSIS Accelerator – powered by Speer Group. From over 200 international applications, five start-ups have been selected to present their solutions in a pitch format. The GSIS Accelerator aims to connect founders with investors, policymakers, and security institutions – with a clear goal: to close Europe’s innovation gaps in the security sector through targeted support. In addition to pitching, the finalists benefit from access to an international network and advisory support on fundamental governance issues in the security domain. GSIS is supported by a strong network of partners who contribute strategic expertise, technological innovation, and international perspectives to the event. Alongside Airbus and Microsoft as Founding Partners, the line-up includes Eraneos, the Special Competitive Studies Project (SCSP), and Peregrine. The summit also builds on long-standing collaborations, including with Bitkom e.V., Germany’s leading digital association and Europe’s largest think tank on digital issues, and the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce, representing the interests of 180,000 companies. The next Global Security and Innovation Summit is scheduled for 9 and 10 December 2026 at the CCH – Congress Center Hamburg.

22 Oct 25. The International Institute for Strategic Studies, together with the Government of the Kingdom of Sweden and the Swedish Defence Research Agency, will co-host a major new forum on civil defence. The purpose of the conference is to discuss the future and the development of modern civil defence architecture in Europe. The IISS Stockholm Civil Defence Forum will take place in the Swedish capital, bringing together political, military and industrial leaders to engage in discussions on how to tackle current challenges to modern civil defence. Topics of discussions are likely to include the future of civil defence, civil-military cooperation and the critical role for industry and technology. Scheduled for April 2026, the IISS Stockholm Civil Defence Forum will become the latest summit staged by the IISS. The Institute has a global reputation as the convenor of world-renowned defence and security summits which engage governments, the private sector and the expert community to advance defence diplomacy. Given Russia’s direct military and hybrid threats, the development of modern civil defence architectures across Europe is becoming more and more important for governments and industry.  For over 20 years the IISS – headquartered in London with offices in Berlin, Washington DC, Bahrain and Singapore – has convened the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore and the Manama Dialogue in Bahrain, the flagship defence and security summits in the Indo-Pacific and the Middle East regions. With support from the Government of the Czech Republic, the IISS has also convened the annual IISS Prague Defence Summit since 2024. The creation of this latest forum was announced by Johan Berggren, the State Secretary at the Swedish Ministry of Defence in remarks at the inaugural Global Security and Innovation Summit in Hamburg.  IISS is a co-partner in organising this event.

Swedish Minister for Civil Defence Carl-Oskar Bohlin said, “It is essential that Europe takes on a greater responsibility for its security, and a key part of that is to make our societies more resilient. The challenges ahead of us are shared, and thus we should also work together to find the solutions. In addition, hosting this conference enables for Sweden to inform and share knowledge about the Swedish total defence concept.”

IISS Director-General and Chief Executive Bastian Giegerich said, “The IISS Stockholm Civil Defence Forum will be an important staging post in a debate which continues to grow in significance, amid recent events. We look forward to the conversations to come in Stockholm next year.” More announcements concerning the IISS Stockholm Civil Defence Forum will be made in the near future.
