1 Jul 02. ERICSSON Microwave Systems AB has, as a result of International competition, received an order from the Defence Procurement Agency for 4 units of the ARTHUR Artillery Weapon Locating System. The order is for the Mobile Artillery Monitoring Battlefield Radar program (MAMBA).

The Royal Marines with key requirements for mobility and radar performance will use the ordered ARTHUR systems. The Royal Marines are currently using ARTHUR systems leased from Ericsson in order to fill a capability gap between the previous generation WLRs and MAMBA. The need for high performance artillery weapon locating system with light weight and air transportability has always been a key issue. The ARTHUR system can rapidly be air lifted by C-130 and helicopters, making ARTHUR the leading weapon locating system for light forces and Peace Support Operations.

With the ARTHUR systems an extensive Company Logistics Support Agreement for at least 5 years is provided and an option for additional units is included.

“This order confirms the position of ARTHUR as the most advanced mobile Weapon Locating System in the market. ARTHUR is already an integrated part of the NATO structure together with the ground based and naval versions of the GIRAFFE AMB family and ERIEYE. This order together with similar recently signed confirms the position of Ericsson as a world class radar systems supplier.” says Mr. Michael Mattsson, General Manager for Europe and Africa within Ericsson Microwave Systems AB.
