19 Nov 25. QinetiQ and Forcys MoU to boost Australia maritime assurance. The companies will collaborate to provide advanced deployable underwater ranges and associated testing systems. Defence technology provider QinetiQ has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Forcys, aimed at enhancing Australia’s sovereign maritime assurance capabilities. The two companies plan to collaborate on the delivery of deployable underwater ranges and associated testing systems. These will support the measurement, verification and performance improvement of submarines, autonomous vessels, and other undersea technologies for the Australian Defence Force (ADF). This effort is intended to enable faster and more informed decision-making as Australia seeks to strengthen operational readiness in complex maritime settings.

QinetiQ brings experience in defence test and evaluation, mission assurance, and range management to the collaboration, while Forcys will contribute its underwater sensing and communication technology.

QinetiQ Australia chief executive Corry Neale said: “This partnership represents a step change in how we can deliver sovereign maritime assurance for Australia and its partners. Australia’s security and national interests depend on being able to understand and trust how these systems perform, and as the undersea environment becomes more contested and technology moves faster, Defence needs the ability to test, evaluate and prove new capabilities at home.”

The partnership aligns with objectives set out in the Australian Government’s Defence Strategic Review and AUKUS Pillar 2, focusing on advancing sovereign industrial capability and assuring complex undersea and multi-domain systems in allied operations. Pillar 2 of the AUKUS alliance, comprising the US, the UK, and Australia, emphasises the development of advanced capabilities to facilitate technology sharing and improve interoperability among their military forces. 19 Nov 25. Rheinmetall has been awarded a contract by the Bundeswehr to modernise its Army Combat Training Centre (Gefechtsübungszentrum Heer, GÜZ) in Saxony-Anhalt. The main objective is to integrate the ‘Digitalisation of Land-based Operations’ (D-LBO) project into the central training facility of the land forces. The contract was booked in October 2025 and is worth around €61 m gross. The first services will also be provided in 2025, with the full integration scheduled for early 2028. The project will have a particular focus on integrating the new digital radio system into the combat training centre. Additionally, all data provided via the battle management system will be displayed in the centre’s command and control centre. Hence, the existing radio infrastructure will be upgraded and expanded extensively. Other components of the contract include establishing a new broadband radio infrastructure using 5G technology, and integrating the Tactical Core software from Rheinmetall subsidiary Blackned into the existing communications infrastructure. Modernisation will enhance and institutionalize training and leadership capabilities of the Bundeswehr and its NATO allies for the future. A unique multinational interoperability in the training context is being created in the Altmark region. Once the project is complete, the standard of training at the Combat Training Centre will be elevated to a new hight. The central evaluation software of the centre already offers the option of displaying language and position. Additionally, all digital command processes of the ‘Sitaware Frontline’ and ‘HQ’ systems introduced in the Bundeswehr will now also be processed in the central training software. This allows exercises to be evaluated more comprehensively for all participants. By the end of 2024, Rheinmetall had won several major digitalisation contracts for the Bundeswehr. Notably, these include the contract to integrate all land forces’ vehicle and platform IT systems as part of D-LBO and the contract to establish and operate the Tactical Wide Area Network for Land Based Operations

 

18 Nov 25. NATO Allies Wrap Up Major Air Exercise “Falcon Strike 2025” in Italy. Over 1000 personnel and 50 aircraft from Italy, France, Greece, the United Kingdom and the United States trained together from 3 to 14 November within the framework of exercise “Falcon Strike 2025” in the Mediterranean Sea. They operated from the Italian Air Force base of Amendola, near Foggia, and across other Italian air bases, with approximately 460 sorties and more than 1,000 flight hours logged. “Falcon Strike 2025” tested the operational readiness and effectiveness of air operations in highly complex scenarios for the protection and defence of our airspace. It featured the integrated use of air, maritime and land assets and capabilities, including fourth and fifth generation aircraft.  The Italian Navy and the British Royal Navy also participated. “Falcon Strike 25” is another demonstration of the continuous efforts made by Allied personnel to strengthen their ability to work together and to ensure that NATO’s deterrence and defence posture remains credible and fit for purpose, against all threats and challenges. BAE Systems, Boeing and Saab have signed a Letter of Intent to collaborate on the UK Royal Air Force fast-jet trainer programme, leveraging T-7 as the core of the training system and creating a path for the three companies to support future international pilot training opportunities. The companies will collaborate on a training system, integrating live and synthetic training capability and associated mission systems and will explore further opportunities for growing the UK supply chain on the aircraft. BAE Systems will lead the activity, which will include a UK-based final assembly, creating high-value jobs in the UK.

Simon Barnes, Group Managing Director, BAE Systems’ Air sector, said: “Our new collaboration with Boeing and Saab will enable us to present a compelling offer to the UK Royal Air Force and our global customers, leveraging the latest tech innovation in training systems and a world-class jet trainer aircraft. The requirement for a new UK Advanced Jet Trainer was set out in the 2025 Strategic Defence Review.

The T-7A Red Hawk, selected by the U.S. Air Force in 2018 for its advanced pilot training system, is the centrepiece of this collaboration. The T-7A is a leading-edge, integrated-live, virtual and constructive fourth-, fifth- and sixth-generation aircrew training system that delivers a multi-generational leap in capability. Its versatile design allows it to adapt to changing technologies and mission requirements, training new pilots to fly the most advanced multi role fighter/fast-jet and bomber aircraft in the world.

Red 6 today announced the successful integration of its Advanced Tactical Augmented Reality Systems (ATARS) technology on Boeing’s AH-64E Apache Crewstation Advanced Technology Testbed (CATT). This represents the first time an augmented reality flight training system has been integrated with a rotorcraft platform, demonstrating the latest advancements in training capabilities for current and future aviators. The ATARS platform transforms traditional flight training by overlaying realistic, threat-representative scenarios onto the real world, allowing pilots to train against near-peer adversaries in contested environments without the costs, risks, and logistical constraints of traditional live training exercises.

“Exploring the integration of ATARS with the Apache marks a significant milestone – not only as our inaugural collaboration with a rotorcraft platform but also as our first potential partnership with a U.S. Army platform,” said Daniel Robinson, CEO and Co-founder of Red 6. “This collaboration demonstrates the versatility and strategic value of augmented reality training across all domains of military aviation.”

The integration would enable Apache pilots to experience threat-relevant, near-peer level training scenarios at speed and scale – affordably increasing safety, easing airspace limitations, and enabling next-generation collaborative combat aircraft (CCA) training. ATARS records flight data, building data sets that allow the military to measure readiness objectively and accurately through advanced data integration capabilities.

Varjo, the world leader in military-grade virtual and mixed reality technology, together with REISER Simulation and Training GmbH (REISER) announced that the REISER H145 D3 Mixed Reality (MR) Helicopter Simulator has been pre-qualified by the German Federal Aviation Office (Luftfahrt-Bundesamt, LBA) under the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) Special Conditions framework.  The achievement marks a significant step forward in bringing mixed reality technology into EASA-recognized training environments, further expanding the role of immersive solutions in certified aviation training.  The simulator features a full-scale haptic cockpit paired with two fully instrumented XR crew stations, enabling highly realistic multi-crew training. Pilots can rehearse Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Crew Resource Management (CRM), checklist flows, and mutual cross-checks in fully immersive environments.

“REISER’s XR Simulator is integrated with Varjo’s latest XR-4 Series headsets that are purpose-built for mission-critical training. Together, we are enabling pilot training to take a fundamental leap toward virtual environments and are proud to work with REISER in driving the adoption of qualified, mixed reality-based Flight Simulation Training Devices (FSTDs),” said Valentin Storz, Chief Revenue Officer of Varjo.

The H145 D3 XR simulator now holds Flight Training Device Level 3 (FTD-3) pre-qualification privileges. Full certification will follow completion of the required Flight Simulation Training Device Operator (FSTDO) qualification process and is expected in early 2026.

 

11 Nov 25. UK turns to private sector to meet ISTAR pilot training demand. Military pilot training has been in significant turmoil, amid historical delays for the country?s fast jet fleet.
