9 Jun 03. Stewart & Stevenson Tactical Vehicle Systems, LP, manufacturer of the Family of Medium Tactical Vehicles (FMTV) for the U.S. military, is working in conjunction with a variety of companies, including ArvinMeritor (ARM), Carlson and Integrated Concepts & Research Corporation (ICRC) to develop an advanced technology 11-ton 6×6 Medium Tactical Truck Demonstrator (MTTD). The work is being done under contract from the U.S. Army Tank-automotive and Armaments Command (TACOM) National Automotive Center (NAC).
The MTTD, described by NAC as a Stewart & Stevenson FMTV with specified technology insertions, will serve as an advanced technology demonstration platform in pursuit of the Army’s next generation of tactical trucks.Since 1991, Stewart & Stevenson has successfully designed, developed and manufactured ultra-reliable FMTVs that provide the Army with new and innovative platform capabilities. The FMTV-based MTTD will incorporate many of the key technologies and capabilities that the Army envisions for its future trucks, including cab and vehicle sub-systems addressing increased crew protection, improved C-130 interoperability, serviceability and ease of use, independently suspended wheels and active suspension, advanced braking systems, embedded DriverTech IETM web-centric diagnostic
system, and others.
“Stewart & Stevenson and the Army’s program office (PM-MTV) have devised and implemented a roadmap of technology insertions for the FMTV that continues to enhance the value of these vehicles to the American soldier,” said Dennis M. Dellinger, President and Chief Operating Officer of Stewart & Stevenson Tactical Vehicle Systems, LP. “The MTTD program affords us the opportunity to quickly leap ahead with Stewart & Stevenson’s manufacturing and engineering innovations that will ensure the FMTV continues to serve
our soldiers well into the future.”
