03 Dec 14. Blighter Surveillance Systems gave the Editor an update of sales and new technologies at the Transport Security Expo in London yesterday. Sales of Blighter radars have now reached 400 to 22 countries, a real UK success story. All the radars are manufactured in the UK and guaranteed for five years thus requiring little or no maintenance. Expect news of a new piece of technology for Blighter which is being trialled in association with parent Company Plextek to enable UAV tracking with added EW capability. Blighter is expanding and moving its HQ over the road to accommodate the growing staff.

20 Nov 14. India – Night Sights Sought for T-90 MBTs. The Indian Army is in the process of increasing the night-fighting capability of the T-90 main battle tank (MBT) by upgrading its night sights. The Ministry of Defence (MoD) is currently seeking suppliers to provide Uncooled Thermal Imager-based Driver’s Night Sight (DNS) for the MBTs to assist the driver during movement of tank at night. The DNS should function on uncooled thermal imaging and should allow visibility through smoke and dust conditions in actual battle field environments. It should be able to withstand temperatures ranging from -45 to -55 degrees Celsius under storage conditions and remain fully operational at temperatures ranging from 0 to 45 degrees Celsius.

24 Nov 14. Passive Night Sights Sought for AK-47 Rifles. The Indian MoD is looking for potential suppliers of uncooled Thermal Imager (TI) type Passive Night Sights (PNS) for the AK-47 rifle. The basic requirement is that the PNS should be a light-weight and ruggedised uncooled TI technology based device to enable the accurate engagement of pin-point targets by the AK-47 at night, during hours of darkness and indoor dark areas.

20 Nov 14. The Philippines DND has announced a tender for the procurement of 60 advanced combat gunsights for an estimated value of PHP7.58m (USD 169,234). The competition is open to local as well as foreign suppliers. A pre-bidding conference is scheduled for 28 November. Bidding documents can be obtained from MPI upon request.

23 Nov 14. US Army surveys the market for Hardware and Support for Target System. The US Army has released an RFI with an intention of surveying the market for:
• 1-Dimensional, 2-Dimensional and 3-Dimensional range target development and procurement.
• Ancillary range target equipment procurement.
• Target engineering services.
• Target radar-cross section development.
• Target infrared development.
• Target database management and technical administrative support.
• Range target technical insertion.
