28 Sep 17. Esterline Corporation (NYSE: ESL) (www.esterline.com), a leading specialty manufacturer serving global aerospace and defense markets, is releasing to the U.S. market a new version of its Thin eXtreme Display series. The TX series/2 display is available now in two sizes: the TX-126/2, 10-inch diagonal 4:3 aspect ratio; and the TX-340, 15-inch diagonal 16:9 aspect ratio, ready for full HD sensors interface and display. Designed for harsh ground vehicle and helicopter environments, these Esterline products feature high- brightness performance, touch screens, GVA/NGVA keypad layout, as well as multiple video format interfaces to meet requirements for the driver, commander and gunner positions – at an affordable cost.

28 Sep 17. India’s DAC approves USD30m procurement of locally built sonars for IN frigates, destroyers. India’s Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) has approved the procurement of upgraded sonars for Indian Navy (IN) destroyers and frigates for INR2bn (USD30m). The sonars, which have been designed, developed, and manufactured by the state-owned Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), are set to be acquired via the ‘Buy Indian’ route, the Indian government’s Press Information Bureau (PIB) announced on 27 September, adding that the new equipment is set to provide “a significant boost” to the IN’s anti-submarine warfare capabilities. The DAC also cleared the procurement of missiles for replenishing the naval inventory, stated the PIB without further elaborating. (Source: IHS Jane’s)

27 Sep 17. The FBI Director Christopher Wray has warned US Congress on Wednesday of imminent terrorist drone attacks on the US soil.
“Two years ago this was not a problem. A year ago it was an emerging problem. Now it’s a real problem. So we’re quickly trying to up our game” Nicholas Rasmussen, the director of the National Counterterrorism Center, testified during the hearing.
Separately, DroneShield has yesterday released an ASX announcement covering Spanish government agencies due to evaluate DroneGun MKII shortly, to protect the Spanish public against drone threat. The text of the announcement is set out below.
• Several departments within the Spanish military and law enforcement evaluating DroneGun MKII (second generation) in October.
• Procurement processes continue with other militaries and law enforcement agencies, including France and the UK.
DroneShield Ltd (ASX:DRO) (“DroneShield” or the “Company”) today announced that several Spanish military and law enforcement departments, including Guardia Civil and Policia National have scheduled an evaluation of DroneGun MKII for October.
These evaluations are understood to be part of the Spanish governmental procurement process. DroneGun MKII was released earlier this month and displayed at the recent Defence and Security Equipment International Conference military tradeshow in London as part of Team Defence Australia’s delegation, a joint effort with the Australian Department of Defence, and Austrade, and attracted substantial distributor and military end customer interest. French and UK militaries and law enforcement agencies in particular are currently trialling the product.
