12 Sep 25. Cuashub.com said today that AAPA pushes for more C-UAS authority at American ports. The American Association of Port Authorities (AAPA) has called on Congress to explicitly include seaports in any federal counter-UAS pilot program. In a letter sent last week to leaders of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, AAPA urged bipartisan action to expand counter-UAS authorities and provide ports with the tools to respond to growing drone threats.
AAPA President and CEO Cary S. Davis noted that seaports are designated as critical infrastructure by the Department of Homeland Security but currently lack the legal authority to counter unauthorized drones.
“Understanding that implementation will rely on partnership with SLTT law enforcement, we respectfully request that seaports be explicitly recognized as potential sites for pilot deployment,” Davis wrote.
Ports handle more than 70 percent of U.S. trade and support over 31 m jobs, yet several facilities have reported drone incidents that disrupted operations and posed safety risks around sensitive storage and perimeter areas.
In its letter, AAPA backed the reintroduction of the Counter-UAS Authority Security, Safety and Reauthorization Act, asked for explicit inclusion of seaports in the pilot program and called for clear distinctions between detection technologies and active mitigation to enable lawful layered defenses.
The association said it is working with Congress, its Security Committee, and Board of Directors to ensure ports are recognized as key partners in national airspace security.
Committee staff reportedly responded positively to the letter, noting the importance of industry engagement as legislative language is finalized. AAPA said it will continue pressing for ports to be named in any pilot program and plans to provide technical input as lawmakers refine the bill. - The Malloy T-150 and Peregrine drones are now operational, enhancing Royal Navy and Royal Marines capabilities.
- The Malloy T-150 delivers critical supplies in challenging environments for the Royal Marines, while the Peregrine boosts intelligence and reconnaissance for the Fleet.
- After rigorous trials worldwide, these systems are set to transform modern military operations
Royal Navy warships and Royal Marines operating behind enemy lines will be supported from the air by two drone systems now ready for front-line operations.
After two years of trials and development, including collaboration with operational partner forces, a fleet of Malloy T-150 Uncrewed Air Systems will be deployed to carry ammunition, weaponry, food, personal and medical supplies to Royal Marines Commandos operating in all manner of extreme environments.
Meanwhile, Royal Navy warships will gain valuable intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance capabilities thanks to the Peregrine mini helicopter’s formal entry into service.
Royal Marines and the Royal Navy’s drone operators from 700X Naval Air Squadron and Commando Logistic Regiment have put the Malloy T-150s through a demanding set of tests and exercises – from the freezing Arctic to the Indian Ocean – over the past eight months.
This work has resulted in the systems being declared ready to Release to Service, which means they are ready to be used during operations.
The Malloy UAS has proved immensely valuable in rapidly bringing supplies over complex terrain, reaching places where traditional supply lines are simply unviable.
With eight rotor blades – each around two feet in length – an endurance of up to 40 minutes, top speed of 60mph, and the ability to lift up to 68kg (comparable to the weight of half a dozen general purpose machine guns), the Malloy T-150 is a proven, capable and versatile platform.
It needs a team of two, one remote pilot and a second to monitor the drone’s command unit, and can be flown manually or autonomously to designated waypoints with an underslung cargo.
Brigadier Chris Haw, Head of the Commando Forces Programme, said: “The UK Commando Force continues to be at the vanguard of operational change in embedding digital and autonomous systems into the way we fight.
“The introduction of logistic drones represents a significant expansion in the Commando Force’s use of Uncrewed Aerial Systems, beyond those already in-service for surveillance/reconnaissance, and importantly reduces the risk to personnel during tactical re-supply.
“Tested in operationally representative conditions, and developed in close collaboration with Malloy, the equipment and operators have made considerable progress. The T-150 has great potential for broader use-cases as we have recently seen in operational theatres and on the Carrier Strike deployment.”
Neil Appleton, CEO Malloy Aeronautics, said: “The UK Release to Service of our T-150 platform is a milestone we’re incredibly proud to be a part of.
“As a multi-role UAS, the T-150 can be used for Replenishment at Sea one day and resupplying deployed Royal Marines Commandos the next.
“It’s a game-changer for the modern battlefield and we are proud to deliver this capability to those who need it most.
“We’ve partnered with the UK Armed Forces throughout this programme, from the Royal Marines Commando Force to wider Ministry of Defence organisations to deliver this capability at pace, including training and in service support.
“We welcome this further strengthening of our partnership with the UK armed forces and remain committed to expanding the capability of our multi-role solutions for the UK.”
The Malloy T-150 is also undergoing operational evaluation with the UK Carrier Strike Group in the Indo-Pacific, recently delivering supplies from aircraft carrier HMS Prince of Wales to destroyer HMS Dauntless in an historic first.
Meanwhile, Peregrine has been developed and delivered in partnership with Thales and Schiebel, providing the RN with a cutting-edge, shipborne uncrewed aerial uncrewed system that extends the eyes and ears of the Fleet beyond the horizon.
Peregrine – which has proven its worth on drugs busting missions in the Gulf – is equipped with the powerful Thales IMaster radar, providing world-class, all weather, day and night surveillance, tracking and target identification to support commanders in complex maritime and coastline areas.
Marie Gayrel, Thales Vice-President Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Business Line, said: “As Thales, along with Schiebel, we are proud to partner with the Royal Navy in delivering the Peregrine capability. Its operational success aboard HMS Lancaster demonstrates the potential of rotary wing uncrewed air systems to transform maritime operations.
“This milestone highlights our shared commitment to innovation, safety and delivering critical capability to the Fleet, fully aligned with the Royal Navy’s transformation agenda.”
Captain Dave Gillett, Head of Navy Develop’s Maritime Aviation & Carrier Strike, added: “The introduction of Peregrine into service is a game-changer for our surface fleet. Its successful deployment with HMS Lancaster shows how uncrewed systems can deliver real operational advantage, extending our surveillance reach and enhancing our decision-making in theatre.
“With the integration of the IMaster radar, Peregrine provides exceptional surveillance capability and is a vital step for wider Maritime Aviation Transformation, ensuring the Royal Navy remains at the forefront of innovation in naval aviation.” (Source: Royal Navy)
12 Sep 25. Cuashub.com said today that Poland requests Article 4 activation after shooting down Russian drones. Poland has formally requested the activation of Article 4 of the NATO Treaty after reporting 19 drone incursions into its airspace overnight, many of which crossed from Belarus. Prime Minister Donald Tusk said four of the drones were shot down, the last at 6:45 a.m. local time.
“The fact that these drones, which posed a security threat, were shot down changes the political situation,” Tusk said, confirming that allied consultations would now take place under NATO procedures. He added that Poland needed “more than expressions of solidarity” from its partners.
Tusk stressed that Poland is not at war but described the current environment as the most dangerous since 1945. Article 4 requires NATO members to consult whenever they believe their security or territorial integrity is under threat.
Russia rejected Warsaw’s claims. Andrey Ordash, Russia’s chargé d’affaires in Poland, said no evidence had been presented proving Russian involvement and called the accusations “groundless.” He confirmed he had been summoned to the Polish Foreign Ministry.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Kyiv had provided Poland with information on drone movements overnight, adding that several drones had transited Belarus before entering Polish territory. Updated Ukrainian assessments suggested as many as two dozen drones may have crossed into Poland.
Polish daily Rzeczpospolita reported 23 incursions and argued the scale made it unlikely the incident was accidental, describing it instead as a deliberate Russian operation to test Poland’s defenses. The outlet also criticized delays in the development of national counter-drone systems, including the halted SkyCTRL program.
In response to the incident, Poland scrambled fighter jets in coordination with NATO allies and temporarily closed four airports, including Warsaw and Rzeszów. Local reports said one drone struck a house near the Belarusian border, damaging the roof but causing no injuries.
The episode coincided with one of Russia’s largest aerial barrages in months, striking 15 Ukrainian regions. Kyiv warned Moscow was “testing the West” and said drones could threaten targets further inside Europe.

12 Sep 25. USMC personnel assigned to I Marine Expeditionary Force partnered with the Defense Innovation Unit and industry leaders during phase two of the DIU’s Project GI challenge to evaluate commercial small unmanned aerial systems in realistic operational environments, Aug. 18-29. The 12-day event brought together Marines assigned to 1st Marine Division — including operators, leaders and subject matter experts — to test vendor-loaned systems across multiple ranges. The training period included four days of Marine-led familiarization, followed by six days of scenario-based demonstrations. Assessments will directly inform War Department procurement decisions and accelerate the integration of resilient, cost-effective small UASs into the joint force.
“The GI challenge puts our Marines at the center of capability development. Their expertise, combined with the innovation of our industry partners, is shaping the next generation of unmanned systems,” said Marine Brig. Gen. Michael Nakonieczny, deputy commanding general of I Marine Expeditionary Force. “I MEF is proud to play a leading role in advancing technologies that directly enhance the lethality and survivability of our Marines.”
Marines evaluated systems against operational criteria, including setup, deployment time, weatherproofing, payload capacity and performance across varying terrain and climates. Evaluations emphasized how each system affected tactics, techniques and procedures during realistic combat scenarios.
“Robotics are revolutionizing the battlefield, and it’s no secret that first-person-view drones have become one of the most lethal and disruptive weapons worldwide,” said Marine Maj. Steven Atkinson, I Marine Expeditionary Force DIU event lead planner. “Our mission is to ensure America’s warfighters get the very best, battle-tested technology so they can be effective anywhere in the world.”
The challenge represents the second phase of a three-part competitive selection process. Phase one involved an initial screening in which the DIU reviewed vendor proposals and chose the most promising systems for further testing. Phase two brought those selected vendors to Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, California, for hands-on evaluation by the I Marine Expeditionary Force. A final phase three round will determine which systems advance to procurement, with winning platforms expected to be added to DOW’s “Blue UAS Cleared List” — drones compliant with current law and policy, validated as cybersecure and available for DOW purchase and operation — by March 15, 2026.
“Bottom-up refinement is something the Marine Corps has always valued. The ability for dedicated to test, stress and provide input on these products is exactly what was needed for this project and the service,” said Marine 2nd Lt. Kienan Morrissey, an intelligence officer assigned to 3rd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion who participated in the evaluation of the vendor-loaned small UAS platforms.
Marines stress-tested the systems in contested environment simulations, focusing on modern kill chain operations and first-person view effects capabilities. Vendors were required to provide at least three prototypes for testing, though some platforms received exemptions due to design characteristics or employment concepts.
Following evaluations, Marines conducted detailed debriefs to capture feedback that will guide procurement and influence future small UAS capability development across DOW. Units within I Marine Expeditionary Force will continue working with selected systems beyond the challenge to provide additional recommendations for improvement.
The DIU’s Project GI challenge represents one of the Marine Corps’ largest field-based industry engagements, focusing on emerging drone technology and directly supporting modernization priorities identified by Marine Corps and Pentagon leaders for operations against peer adversaries.
“Events like these ensure our Marines will have the best available tools at their disposal in the next conflict,” Morrissey said. (Source: U.S. DoD)

12 Sep 25. AV Partners with ARKEUS to Deliver Hyperspectral Optical Radar Payload for Jump20 Uncrewed Platform. Today, AeroVironment (“AV”) (NASDAQ: AVAV) unveiled the newest payload for its Group 3 JUMP 20 uncrewed autonomous system (UAS)–the Arkeus Hyperspectral Optical Radar (HSOR). The HSOR-equipped JUMP 20 redefines autonomous Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions and equips forces with comprehensive situational awareness across domains.
Integrating the autonomous, real-time Arkeus HSOR on the long-range, multi-mission AV JUMP 20 is a transformative step forward in reconnaissance technology. Built for congested and degraded visual conditions, the HSOR-equipped JUMP 20 offers long standoff and increased situational awareness in operational environments where visibility is limited, electromagnetic conditions are constrained, and payload flexibility is essential. Utilizing hyperspectral imaging to analyze materials’ unique spectral “fingerprint” enables rapid environmental analysis, including water depth, foliage density, subterranean activity, and more–day and night.
“The JUMP 20 is the first and only uncrewed platform to integrate Arkeus HSOR, which itself is the first real-time, wide-area scan, hyperspectral sensor,” said Trace Stevenson, President of Autonomous Systems for AV. “The technological innovation is groundbreaking and important. But most important is the capability we can now deliver to the warfighter.”
Leveraging an AI-driven data engine and rapid environmental assessments, the HSOR-equipped JUMP 20 provides operators with persistent detection, classification, location, and tracking of hundreds of contacts simultaneously–across land, sea, littoral, and transitional zones with no recalibration or hardware changes. With more than eight times the range in degraded visual environments as compared with traditional Electro-Optical Infrared (EO/IR) sensors, it is ideal for wide-area ISR, maritime domain awareness, search and rescue, counter narcotics operations, border security, and more.
“This HSOR-equipped JUMP 20 heralds a new era in multi-mission operations for forces that prioritize situational awareness across domains as the cornerstone of operational success,” said Simon Olsen, President & CEO of Arkeus. “Together with AV, we are enhancing operational efficiency and decision-making processes for warfighters in contested, congested battlespaces.”
The JUMP 20 is a vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL), fixed-wing uncrewed aircraft system (UAS) that provides advanced multi-sensor ISR services. The system delivers 13+ hours of endurance with a Line of Sight (LOS) operational range of 185 km (100nm) and a Beyond Line of Sight (BLOS) range of over 500nm. Operators can set it up and deploy it in less than 30 minutes without the need for launch or recovery equipment. With a 30-pound payload bay and common autopilot and ground control system architecture, the JUMP 20 is a highly customizable, modular platform that can be custom-configured to meet operational or customer requirements.

12 Sep 25. Babcock and CiTech sign MOU to develop rapidly deployable communications, ISR and counter-UAS systems for Eastern Europe. Babcock International Group (Babcock), the defence company, and Australian company Critical Infrastructure Technologies (CiTech) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to develop a rapidly deployable hub that can house a combination of 5G communication, Intelligence, Surveillance & Reconnaissance (ISR) and counter-UAS systems for the Eastern Flank and other defence and national security applications.
The MOU, signed at DSEI, will involve both parties working exclusively on opportunities to supply Eastern Europe with a system based on CiTech’s Nexus 20 platform.
The 20ft container sized product, which can be transported on a truck, will house 5G communications, counter UAS, and ISR technology. It can unload itself, adapt to sloping or uneven ground and deploy 20m cyclone rated tower.
As part of the MOU, Babcock and CiTech will also explore the development Nexus 16 assembly hub in Eastern Europe and opportunities across NATO’s Eastern Flank.
Western Australian based CiTech was one of the first companies to join Babcock’s Global Supply Chain Program (GSCP) which strengthens Australian industry’s access to international defence markets by opening up new commercial pathways.
Babcock’s dedicated GSCP delivery team is strategically situated in both Australia and the UK to provide continual advocacy at a global level and identify gaps in that have the potential to be filled by Australian supplier capability.
Mark Goldsack, Babcock’s International Director, said: “We are delighted to be signing this partnership with CiTech, where we can deliver a rapidly deployable communications, counter-UAS and ISR capability as well as develop a dedicated assembly hub to support further opportunities.”
Brenton Scott, CEO of CiTech, added: “As an Australian defence industry SME, partnering with Babcock unlocks a pathway for the Nexus 20 to be rapidly scaled across Eastern Europe. This isn’t a single deployment – it’s the beginning of a regional expansion that positions CiTECH’s Nexus 20 as a benchmark capability across NATO’s Eastern Flank.”
08 Sep 25. Welsh companies OcuSight Limited and Optical Tool for Industry (OTI) unveil digital PDP Periscope upgrade delivering unassisted 0.5 mLux performance — no image‑intensifier tubes required
Drop‑in digitisation of legacy PDP periscopes adds day/night imaging, real‑time Image signal processor (ISP), and on‑screen overlays to extend service life and reduce cost of ownership.
OcuSight, in collaboration with Optical Tool for Industry (OTI), today announced a re‑engineered PDP Periscope Digitisation Pack that replaces legacy image‑intensifier tube assemblies with a modern low‑light digital camera and real‑time ISP. The upgrade enables unassisted operation down to 0.5 mLux as well as full daylight performance, eliminating reliance on costly — and increasingly obsolete — intensifier tubes while retaining much of the original PDP periscope hardware. The solution will debut at DSEI 2025, ExCeL London, 9–12 September at the ADS Pavilion (stand number N6-165)
“Modernising proven periscope platforms doesn’t have to mean full replacement,” said Mark Faux, Director, OcuSight. “By digitising the PDP optical path with a low‑SWaP camera and ISP, we’ve created a practical, affordable route to true day/night capability — and we’ve done it while reusing existing housings, mechanics and interfaces to minimise downtime, risk and cost.”
Key capabilities
- True day/night imaging: Unassisted 0.5 mLux low‑light performance and daylight operation in a single digital module.
- Real‑time image pipeline: Integrated ISP with auto‑exposure, contrast, gain, and tone‑mapping/gamma algorithms for consistent, high‑quality imagery across lighting conditions.
- Drop‑in digitisation: Reuses many PDP periscope components (mechanical structure, seals and interface geometry) to simplify retrofit and preserve platform integration.
- Operational overlays: Optional track overlays and compass rose graphics to enhance situational awareness for the operator.
- Sustainment and cost reduction: Removes dependence on image‑intensifier tubes and associated supply chains; reduces maintenance exposure and extends system service life.
“OTI’s precision opto‑mechanical engineering, combined with OcuSight’s imaging and processing expertise, means customers can now bring legacy sighting systems into the digital era in weeks, not years,” said Kyle Parry, Director, Optical Tool for Industry (OTI). “The PDP upgrade shows how careful re‑use of existing assemblies can accelerate capability while controlling programme risk
