Introduction
BATTLESPACE Publications is delighted to announce the Programme for ‘Protecting Critical Infrastructure,’ to be held at Chepstow Racecourse prior to the Chepstow Military Raceday on November 6th 2024. The Conference will provide comprehensive coverage and discussion of the risks involved in holding large sporting events without the proper Counter-UAS systems and technology to protect participants and participating teams from aggressive drone incursions.
As the war in Ukraine progress into its third year, the Conference will examine the difficulties in protecting key infrastructure such as nuclear power stations, power stations, sporting events and military facilities from multiple drone swarm threats. A key factor in urban C-UAS scenarios compared to battlefield C-UAS is the limitation of the usage of kinetic and EW defeat systems. Urban sporting events require specialist C-UAS systems which can defeat the drone threat without damaging the infrastructure or jamming the radio spectrum.
A paper given by ZoneAware will focus on new regulations for sporting venues and events under Martyn’s Law.
Martyn’s Law is already prompting security reviews for events and venues and will come in over the next year or two for enhanced tier event venues over 800 people – Scrutiny in the House of Commons is coming up shortly and it will update on counter terror preparedness and have implications for the licensing of events and culpability for a failure to prepare adequately. The Security Industry Authority is noted as the new regulator. Drones are certainly part of that conversation on a sliding scale proportionally of what is needed to keep people safe on site. The bigger the meet / event the more likely a standard will need to be met for drone safety. ROCUs (Regional Counter Terror Policing Advisors) are already in training at some forward thinking areas of the country.
