04 Feb 13. Southern Research Institute has finalized plans to demonstrate an Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) generator at the U.S. Naval Facilities Engineering and Expeditionary Warfare Center, Mobile Utilities Support Equipment (MUSE) Division in Port Hueneme, Calif. which could potentially produce up to 624 gross megawatt hours of electricity in a year using waste heat and deliver a new source of energy to remote military installations. This evaluation, conducted by Southern Research under a program funded by the U.S. Dept. of Defense’s (DoD’s) Environmental Security Technology Certification Program (ESTCP), is expected to provide independently verified information about the efficiencies and value of using waste heat to power technology to reduce energy costs, and environmental impacts, for military facilities. The mission of the ESTCP program is to find solutions that will advance the military’s high-priority environmental and energy goals. Technicians at the MUSE facility will initially operate the generator—which produces electricity using low-grade waste heat—and then deploy it as part of a remote DoD field operation. Data will be collected and analyzed by Southern Research engineers and technicians. (Source: Yahoo!/BUSINESS WIRE)

05 Feb 13. Pasternack Enterprises, Inc., a leading ISO 9001:2008 manufacturer and global supplier of RF and microwave products, introduces their new line of 50 Watt medium power attenuators. This innovative line of medium power attenuators offers one of the most comprehensive selections of RF connector combinations available, thus eliminating the need for coaxial adapters or custom cable jumpers to change connector types. The new medium power 50 Watt attenuators from Pasternack Enterprises can be ordered with any combination of passivated stainless steel SMA, TNC and N connectors as well as silver plated brass 7/16 DIN connectors. Pasternack medium power RF attenuators operate from DC to 18 GHz depending on connector configuration. 50 Watt RF attenuators come in 3 dB, 6 dB, 10 dB, 20 dB, 30 dB, 40 dB and 50 dB models with a total of 294 different models available and all are RoHS compliant. Pasternack’s medium power attenuators have an average power rating of 50 Watts and a peak power rating of 500 Watts. Medium power coaxial attenuators are manufactured with large cooling fins which help to quickly dissipate heat during usage. The superior cooling of these 50 Watt attenuators allows these RF components to effectively operate between a temperature range of -55 to +125 degrees C, making them an ideal solution for a wide range of environmental conditions in the lab and in the field.
