PARLIAMENTARY QUESTIONS

November 28, 2025 by

24 Nov 25. Defence Committee statement: Ukraine. In response to recent developments relating to a Ukraine peace deal, the Defence Committee has issued the following statement:

“The Defence Committee reaffirms that the United Kingdom must stand unequivocally with the people of Ukraine at this critical moment. Their struggle is not only for their own homeland, but also in defence of the security, stability and values of other parts of Europe.

We believe that any peace must be just, lasting, and above all acceptable to Ukraine itself. The international community cannot and must not endorse any settlement that merely reflects the demands of President Putin, or that rewards aggression, annexation, or the violation of the most basic norms of international law. As we stated last week in our major report on European Security “We must reject entirely the Russian concept of peace which includes Ukrainian sacrifice of territory and so-called neutrality.”

At this crucial time, the United Kingdom, together with its European allies, must show clear and determined leadership. Our Government and others across Europe must be prepared to step forward actively to support credible negotiations and security guarantees, to strengthen Ukraine’s position, and to ensure that the foundations of peace reflect justice, sovereignty, and the right of nations to choose their own paths.

Ukraine has shown extraordinary resilience. It deserves nothing less than our full moral, diplomatic, and practical support, including continued military aid, as it seeks a peace that secures its freedom and its future.”

24 Nov 25. The Defence Committee heard from representatives of Team Barrow on the role Barrow-in-Furness will play in delivering AUKUS as it continues its AUKUS inquiry on Wednesday 26 November.

Watch on parliamentlive.tv

Team Barrow is an initiative which brings together partners from national and local Government and industry with a focus on regenerating the town of Barrow-in-Furness, home to the UK’s only submarine construction shipyard.

MPs will use this session to explore the initiative’s aims and objectives and how it will support the AUKUS partnership.

The Committee are also likely to examine the challenges in regenerating the area of Barrow, and question if the scale of funding made available is adequate to overcome them. MPs may also explore potential impacts on the population of the area, and the wider lessons that can be learned from Team Barrow’s work.

Wednesday 26 November, 10.15am:

  • The Rt Hon The Lord Case, Chair, Team Barrow
  • Peter Anstiss, CEO, Team Barrow
  • Nona Irvine-Buckley, Head of Team Barrow, Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government
  • Angela Jones, Director of Thriving Places, Westmorland and Furness Council
