Mr. Hancock: To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what the original timetable was for the development of strategic tanker aircraft; what the current timetable is; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Ingram: The Future Strategic Tanker Aircraft (FSTA) is a prospective PFI project currently in the assessment phase. As such, it does not have a formally approved development programme or date for introduction to service. Negotiations with industry are ongoing.

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, whether he plans (a) to procure and (b) to lease further air-to-air refuelling aircraft before aircraft provided by the Future Strategic Tanker Aircraft private finance initiative enter service.
