31 Mar 14. Battle of Britain Ace to be reunited with his Hurricane at SOPARA on 11th May. Four Battle of Britain pilots who defended the Nation 74 years ago will attend the Support Our PARAs pageant at Old Sarum on 11th May. By a strange quirk of fate, Battle of Britain fighter ace Wing Commander Bob Foster will be reunited with the Hawker Hurricane which he flew during the fierce air battles over Southern England 74 years ago. Bob’s Hurricane, now owned by vintage aeroplane enthusiast Peter Vacher will be displaying during the aviation and military pageant at Old Sarum which is being run to raise funds for the Parachute Regiment. Now in his 90s, Bob is Chairman of the Battle of Britain Fighter Association and is bringing three other fighter pilots to Old Sarum. Members of Churchill’s Few who hope to attend are Wing Commander Paul Farnes and Squadron Leader Tony Pickering also flew Hurricanes, together with Flying Officer Ken Wilkinson was a Spitfire pilot. The Battle of Britain Fighter Association is only open to those who flew with operational squadrons during the Battle of Britain between 10 July and 31 October 1940.
