Hanwha present a comprehensive portfolio of advanced defence technologies at Defence and Security Equipment International (DSEI) 2025, showcasing not only proven platforms such as the K9 family and MCS, but also its next-generation Targeting Web and Deep Strike Capabilities. At this year’s exhibition, Hanwha will highlight its transformation into a truly multi-domestic partner—investing, producing, and sustaining capabilities within customer nations. This model not only ensures rapid gap-filling but also strengthens local supply chains, create jobs, and aedvances technology transfer.

Hanwha’s experience in Poland—where it rapidly delivered K9 self-propelled howitzers while simultaneously establishing a large-scale partnership base, and supplied the Homar-K, a localized version of its deep strike system—together with its Australian AS9/AS10 program, exemplifies this approach. Both programs demonstrate how Hanwha delivers immediate readiness while embedding lasting industrial benefits in allied economies.

Key Products and Solutions at DSEI 2025

Modular Charge System (MCS)

Hanwha’s 155mm Artillery Modular Charge System (MCS) is designed for NATO-standard 39- and 52-caliber guns and projectiles compliant with the Joint Ballistic Memorandum of Understanding (JBMoU). It operates reliably across temperatures from -46°C to +54°C. The system burns cleanly upon ignition, leaving minimal residue, which eliminates the need for barrel swabbing and supports sustained high rates of fire.

Deep Strike Capability

Hanwha’s Deep Strike Capability provides a flexible, multi-caliber rocket launch capability, adaptable to diverse mission profiles ranging from suppressing enemy fire support to neutralizing high-value targets in complex environments. The integration of GPS/INS hybrid navigation ensures high-precision strikes, even against moving targets, enhancing both responsiveness and accuracy. Its dual-launcher configuration allows the deployment of a wide range of guided and unguided rockets from a single platform, delivering superior firepower and operational flexibility.

This system has been internationally validated, most notably through Poland’s acquisition of over 200 units of the localized Homar-K variant, which integrates onto Polish platforms and customized fire control systems. The program underscores the system’s adaptability to national requirements and its ability to enhance both operational effectiveness and industrial collaboration.

AS9 Self-Propelled Howitzer (K9 Family)

The AS9 Huntsman is the latest evolution of the globally fielded K9 platform, incorporating lessons from more than 2,400 K9 and K10 vehicles in service across more than ten nations, including NATO members. The AS9 offers a proven 52-caliber 155mm gun system, fully digital architecture, and high levels of protection and survivability. It is optimized for interoperability with NATO’s Advanced Field Artillery Tactical Data System (AFATDS), delivering precise and responsive fire support across ranges of 30–60 km.

The AS10 (Australian variant of the K10) complements the AS9 as a highly protected and maneuverable ammunition resupply vehicle. Its automated loading system reduces crew exposure under fire and enables sustained high-tempo operations. Together, the AS9 and AS10 form a mature, low-risk protected mobile fires platform designed to meet the evolving needs of the British Army and allied forces.

L-SAM (Long-range Surface-to-Air Missile System)

An advanced upper-tier interceptor designed to neutralize ballistic and other aerial threats at very high altitudes. Incorporating technologies such as precision Divert and Attitude Control Systems (DACS) for hit-to-kill accuracy and high-thrust propulsion for rapid intercept, L-SAM expands coverage several times beyond lower-tier systems. It enhances layered air defence networks by offering wide-area protection against next-generation threats.

Infantry Fighting Vehicle

A next-generation tracked IFV that delivers high survivability, mobility, and lethality. Redback integrates advanced sensors, modular armor, and powerful weapon systems, making it adaptable to NATO standards and a strong candidate for ongoing European IFV modernization programs.

Space-based Surveillance (SAR Satellite)

Synthetic aperture radar satellites offering persistent, all-weather, day-and-night intelligence and targeting support, ensuring resilient situational awareness in contested environments.

Counter-UAV Systems

Mobile and fixed-site systems designed to detect, track, and neutralize hostile drones. These systems provide layered defence for maneuver units and strategic infrastructure, leveraging extensive operational experience.

Naval Solutions: MUSV & Smart Battleship Concepts

Unmanned surface vessels and digitalized naval platforms designed for surveillance, deterrence, and combat operations. These concepts combine multi-mission flexibility with advanced digital integration to support the future of European maritime security.

ST Engineering, a global technology, defence and engineering Group, announced strong momentum and deeper engagements in Europe and the Middle East as it presents its latest suite of integrated solutions at Defence Security and Equipment International (DSEI) 2025, designed to address the evolving needs of today’s armed forces.

Demonstrating its innovation and engineering strength, ST Engineering is unveiling the Light Reconnaissance Strike concept, a formation-level suite of solutions that equips light infantry forces with greater mobility, precise firepower and enhanced survivability.

With its Electronic Architecture Kit (EAK) as the digital backbone of the Light Reconnaissance Strike concept, the Ground Deployed Advanced Mortar System (GDAMS), Counter Unmanned Aerial System (CUAS), ADDER Remote Weapon System and UGVs can be integrated onto a land platform to create a self-contained sensor-to-shooter ecosystem. The platform-agnostic solutions transform existing analogue platforms into digital-enabled assets, addressing the urgent modernisation needs of today’s armed forces.

Demonstrating their adaptability and ease of integration at DSEI, the EAK is featured on nine different tactical vehicles across ST Engineering’s and partners’ exhibits while the GDAMS is displayed on three partner platforms.

“Modern warfare is changing, and militaries are reviewing their concept of operations. The Light Reconnaissance Strike concept is designed to provide rapidly realisable capability upgrades for forces to meet today’s operational challenges with speed and agility,” said Chua Jin Kiat, Executive Vice President and Head of International Defence Business, ST Engineering. “By upgrading existing equipment through digitalisation, armed forces can achieve force multiplied outcomes through a quick modernisation cycle.”

ST Engineering is also advancing its European manufacturing capacity for its battle-tested armoured platform, the Bronco. At DSEI, a Bronco produced locally in Finland with Sisu is featured at its booth, while a variant built in Italy with ARIS and Leonardo takes centre stage at ARIS’ booth.

Chua added, “We work hand in hand with partners like Sisu, ARIS and Leonardo to build capability. By localising production and establishing in-country support, we contribute to stronger, more resilient defence ecosystems.”

ST Engineering is focusing on segments where it brings proven strengths and clear differentiators. At DSEI, the Group is announcing plans to expand several collaborations with leading industry partners, including one with Leonardo and ARIS for the provision of specialised systems and modules for the Bronco 3, and another with EDGE Group to expand the existing partnership to jointly explore opportunities in shipbuilding, advanced mortar capabilities, training and simulation, smart MRO and satellite systems.

In addition, it will sign Memorandums of Understanding with Armormax, Echodyne, Equivital and MyDefence to explore collaborations in areas such as counter unmanned aerial systems, mortar systems and soldier systems. These agreements underscore the Group’s commitment to co-developing innovative solutions with partners and accelerating its international growth.

08 Sep 25. Nigeria: Boko Haram assault underscores elevated attack risks in Borno state. On 6 September, Boko Haram militants killed at least 60 people, including seven soldiers, during an assault on Darul Jamal town (Borno state), adjacent to the Cameroonian border. The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) claimed to have killed 30 militants in subsequent airstrikes. Residents had recently re-settled in Darul Jamal, having previously been displaced to camps in the Bama local government area (Borno) following a wave of Boko Haram attacks. The attack possibly reflects Boko Haram’s efforts to re-establish dominance over communities living along the Nigeria-Cameroon border and thereby secure its freedom of movement. As such, further Boko Haram attacks across Borno state will be likely in the coming weeks. This will likely trigger an augmented security response, possibly including the use of further airstrikes; this would increase mis‑identification and collateral risks. However, we assess that the Nigerian security forces’ limited capacity to maintain rural positions will dilute the effectiveness of any such operations, driving further bouts of displacement and compounding mounting pressure on aid provision in Nigeria. 08 Sep 25. Mali: Increasing JNIM activity underscores increasing pressure on government stability, attack risks. On 6 September, the al-Qaeda-affiliated Jama’at Nasr al-Islam wal-Muslimin (JNIM) conducted numerous attacks in central and south-eastern Mali. In Mopti (Mopti region), militants killed at least two civilians in a shooting attack targeting the police commissariat. JNIM militants also conducted several arson attacks targeting fuel tankers entering Sikasso (Sikasso region) and obstructed movement along the Bamako-Ségou highway (RN6) between Markacoungo and Kassela (both Koulikoro region), approximately 20 miles (33km) from the capital Bamako. The attacks underscore JNIM’s increasing capacity to conduct simultaneous operations nationwide while maintaining blockades on numerous population centres in western Mali, including Kayes and Nioro du Sahel (both Kayes region). In the coming weeks, we assess that JNIM will likely continue bolstering its presence in Koulikoro amid efforts to increase pressure on supply chains to the capital Bamako, driving the risk of key goods shortages and undermining energy security. JNIM hostilities will likely continue at pace nationwide, sustaining significant attack, arson and kidnap-for-ransom risks for locally engaged staff and assets. (Source: Sibylline)

 

08 Sep 25. Japan: Prime minister’s resignation will exacerbate political instability. On 7 September, Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba announced his resignation as president of the governing Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) to avert a ‘decisive division within the party’. This comes after the LDP lost its majority in the upper house in elections in July. Ishiba stated that it was the right time to step down, having finalised a trade deal with the US last week. Ishiba will remain in office until a new prime minister is elected. The LDP will first elect a new party president (likely on 4 October), after which the candidate must win votes in both chambers of the National Diet before taking office. We assess that the two main candidates are Sanae Takaichi, who represents the party’s conservative wing, and Minister of Agriculture Shinjirō Koizumi. As the LDP has a minority government, the new leader will struggle to pass major legislation, sustaining policy risks. We assess that political instability will likely undermine investor confidence, given the underlying uncertainty over whether a new leader will maintain fiscal discipline amid financial challenges, such as inflation and rising debt obligations. 05 Sep 25. Belarus: Upcoming military drills will exacerbate risk of arrest facing certain nationals. On 4 September, reports emerged across Belarusian media claiming that the authorities had arrested a Polish citizen on suspicion of espionage in Lepel (Vitebsk region). The Belarusian state news agency Belta reported that the man – whom it described as being an agent of Poland’s special services – was in possession of ‘secret’ documents concerning upcoming joint Belarusian-Russian military drills (ZAPAD). The authorities also arrested a Belarusian citizen. The joint military exercises will run from 12 to 16 September; they will be the first of their kind since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022. Our assessment remains that a Russian invasion into northern Ukraine from Belarus is highly unlikely during these exercises, as is an attack against a neighbouring NATO country (namely Latvia, Lithuania and Poland). Nevertheless, given the heightened tensions, we assess that the risk of arbitrary arrest and interrogation of nationals from the abovementioned countries by the Belarusian authorities will be elevated over the coming weeks.
