15 Oct 02. Stewart & Stevenson TUG of Marietta, GA has received two U.S. Government contracts totalling $2m+ for airline towing tractors. The U.S. Air Force awarded a contract for six aircraft towing units capable of moving C-5 aircraft and the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) issued an order for 67 lighter duty tractors for delivery to the Border Patrol. The award from the Air Force also includes four option years, which would bring the total value to $9m if all option years are exercised.

Pierce Manufacturing Inc., a subsidiary of Oshkosh Truck Corporation (NYSE:OSKGENERAL DYNAMICS SEGMENT WINS CONTRACTS – News), has introduced a complete line of value-priced rescue vehicles under its popular Contender(r) Series name. The new line is designed to give the fire service an economical rescue vehicle that integrates premium features and significant storage capacity.

2 Oct 02. United Defense Industries, Inc. (NYSE: UDI – News) has received a $49.4m contract from the U.S. Army’s Tank-automotive and Armaments Command (TACOM) to remanufacture 33 Bradley A2 Operation Desert Storm (ODS) vehicles and provide additional upgrade kits for field modifications. This Fiscal Year 2002 contract calls for the remanufacture of 20 Bradley M2A2 ODS infantry vehicles and 13 Bradley M3A2 ODS cavalry vehicles from older Bradley systems. The contract also calls for field modification kits to upgrade additional Bradley vehicles from the base A2 configuration to the ODS platform. Vehicle deliveries begin in March 2004 and will continue through May 2004, and kit deliveries will be in December 2003.

13 Aug 02. Stewart & Stevenson has been selected by Lear Siegler Services, Inc. (LSI), to enhance approximately 800 FMTV M1088 tractors. This estimated $4.5m work effort will be performed on the FMTV tractors located at two U.S. Army installations — Fort Hood, Texas, and Fort Bragg, North Carolina. The award was based on “best value” to the U.S. Army with the criteria being price, quality, timeliness and past performance. In addition, the U.S. Army and LSI have exercised the option for Fort Campbell, Kentucky, for approximately 300 additional M1088 Tractors. The work effort begins immediately with first deliveries in September 2002 and final deliveries in December of 2003.
