World Defense Show 2024 held under the esteemed patronage of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, wrapped up today, achieving significant milestones including 61 orders, totaling a value of SAR 26 bn. The event boasted participation from over 773 exhibitors from 76 countries and more than 441 official delegations from 116 countries, drawing in an impressive attendance of 106,000 visitors. Throughout the duration of the show, 73 MoU agreements were inked, of which 17 were offset agreements, highlighting the event’s role as a pivotal platform for global defense collaboration and innovation.

07 Feb 24. Saudi Arabia strikes deal to locally manufacture TRD Singapore jammer. Saudi Arabia has struck a deal with counter-unmanned aircraft system (C-UAS) manufacturer TRD Singapore to locally manufacture its Orion-H9 radio frequency (RF) jammer. The agreement, disclosed at the World Defense Show (WDS) 2024 held in Riyadh from 4 to 8 February, is part of a joint venture (JV) called TRD Middle East Industry Co, established between TRD Singapore and domestic defence company Rakaa Holding. Under the JV, TRD Middle East Industry Co will take charge of developing the Orion-H9 jammer in Saudi Arabia. The CEO of TRD Singapore, Sam Ong, informed Janes that the company is looking to localise its other manportable systems such as the Orion-D handheld C-UAS jammer and the mobile Orion C2 (command-and-control) system. After this,the company aims to scale up manufacturing, offering the user its fully integrated system of systems solutions. EDGE, one of the world’s leading advanced technology and defence groups, today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Turkish Aerospace, a prominent Türkiye-based aerospace and defence technology company, at the World Defense Show in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, to work together on several aerospace-specific initiatives. nThe agreement represents a joint commitment to integrate EDGE’s advanced payloads and sensors to Turkish Aerospace’s products. 08 Feb 24. Milkor announces a new patrol craft at the World Defence Show. During the World Defence Show in Saudi Arabia this week Milkor has revealed the latest addition to its naval portfolio, the 16 metre long Milkor Commander patrol craft, designed for maritime security, coast guard, and law enforcement duties.
The Commander features a hydrodynamic hull design optimised for what Milkor said are the unique requirements of coastal security and law enforcement operations. The vessel will be built for high speed (45 knots) and long range (500 nautical miles at 35 knots) operations – it is designed to swiftly reach mission areas and ensure a safe return.
“This vessel offers ample deck space and impressive payload capacity, making it adaptable to a diverse range of roles,” according to Milkor. The aft deck can support 1.5 tons and the roof 400 kg, while there is capacity for up to ten personnel.
Waterjet propulsion gives what Milkor said is “superior manoeuvrability and exceptional high-speed cruise performance. With a low transom and outstanding forward visibility, docking alongside any target becomes a seamless task. Furthermore, the Milkor Commander demonstrates excellent seakeeping abilities, enabling it to operate effectively even in up to 4 metre swells.”
James Cottrell, Head of Marine Projects at Milkor UAE, stated, “The vessel has an effective role in ensuring absolute maritime security with its rapid deployment capability and minimal crew requirement. The Commander’s protection level reaches up to Ballistic level B6, thanks to bulletproof glass and spall lining addons, ensuring enhanced safety for the crew. We have a commitment to reliability, safety, and mission effectiveness, asserting that the Milkor Commander reflects these core values.”
Development of the vessel was spurred on by the rise in piracy, human trafficking and smuggling of contraband along the coastlines of Africa and the Middle East; the vessel will be able to carry out maritime patrols, high-speed interceptions, infrastructure monitoring, inspection, surveillance, and search and rescue missions, amongst others.
“The need for high-speed naval response capabilities have increasingly become a focus point for many countries. Milkor has taken notice of these challenges and continued to focus their development of naval defence solutions towards combating these immediate threats. With a rapid growing capability in developing and supporting naval vessels, Milkor boasts an in-house capacity to develop and manufacture vessels up to 30 metres in length,” the company explained.
During the official announcement at the World Defence Show 2024, Milkor teased that more of the Commander’s capabilities will be showcased during IDEX 2025.
In addition to the new Commander, Milkor offers its 12 metre long Inshore Patrol Craft (IPC), which uses a hydrofoil supported catamaran design to reach high cruising speeds. The IPC has the ability to switch between manned and unmanned operation. The vessel can be armed with two lightweight torpedoes and a remote weapon station.

World Defense Show 2024 held under the patronage of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, boasts a fantastic array of live land and air demonstrations throughout the week, highlighting the show’s unique position in the global defense landscape. Visitors experienced first hand the breadth of defense technologies, with dynamic displays featuring armored land vehicles, combat aircraft, unmanned aerial and ground systems, and an exclusive exhibitor test drive experience in the off-road zone.
The live land and air display showcased the carbon fiber turboprop Calidus B250 light attack aircraft, the distinctive delta-winged Eurofighter Typhoon, the French Dassault Rafale C, and two roaring F-15s, while the Pakistan Air Force showed off its three JF-17 Thunder multirole combat aircraft. 06 Feb 24. New Hensoldt electro-optical system debuts in Saudi Arabia. The latest addition to the Hensoldt electro-optical portfolio – the Bushbaby 100 – made its public debut at this week’s World Defence Show (WDS) in Saudi Arabia.
It is billed as an advanced electro-optical system for land-based surveillance, with medium-range multi-sensor surveillance capabilities for a range of applications in the defence, security and civil sectors.
Bushbaby 100 is a compact, rugged, medium-range multi-sensor system for stabilised surveillance and target geo-location, Hensoldt South Africa said.
“The modern defence and security landscape has shown us that a solution like this is the ideal choice – an advanced, yet flexible solution that can be easily deployed on a range of platforms for agile use,” said Chris Haines, Head of Sales of Hensoldt’s Optronics business in South Africa.
Designed for day and night observation applications, the system offers a field-swappable sensor-module for various applications. In standard configuration it provides a video feed from a 4K electro-optical sensor along with a compact MWIR (medium wavelength infrared) sensor and optional laser rangefinder. The system has a continuous 360-degree azimuth and -45° to +95° elevation range.
The onboard real-time video processor provides image enhancement of all sensors, image fusion of daylight and infrared cameras into a single video stream, image stabilisation, scene steering and target tracking.
This Bushbaby 100 is aimed at a variety of industries and organisations, including security and policing agencies, border control authorities, mining companies, military forces and commercial vehicle operators. It can be used in fixed or mobile installations, including armoured vehicles, unmanned ground vehicles, patrol vehicles and commercial vehicles.
The first iteration of the Bushbaby was revealed in 2020. The system is non-ITAR, like the majority of Hensoldt South Africa’s products. It complements the company’s other surveillance capabilities, including radar and electro-optical sensors. Hensoldt South Africa’s combined radar and electro-optical surveillance system is, for example, protecting nearly two thousand rhinos in the world’s largest rhino conservancy.
At the World Defence Show, Hensoldt South Africa is showcasing a wide range of its products to the region. 06 Feb 24. Reutech eyes regional growth in the Middle East. The joint participation in the World Defence Show (WDS) 2024 of Etion Create, Dynateq International, Reutech Radar Systems, Reutech Communications and Fuchs Electronics underscores the success in the region of their group, Reunert Applied Electronics.
“From the time we signed a number of significant contracts in this region in recent times, Etion Create has now established a presence here, specifically in Saudi Arabia,” said Tobie van Loggerenberg, executive business development manager. “Etion Create now has a strong relationship with a major Saudi defence electronics company, which is manufacturing our proven CheetahNAV vehicle navigation system that is operational in a number of Saudi military vehicles.”
This is part of Etion’s localisation strategy in the Kingdom that will continue to be incrementally rolled out, notably with additional innovative products, he said. On display at WDS2024 is the company’s smaller Cheetah Compact, as well as a rugged keyboard and a set of routers. These devices form part of a new battlefield management system designed to meet a specific Saudi requirement. Etion Create expects the Cheetah Compact and rugged keyboard to be as successful as its CheetahNAV, which is proving effective in the harsh and extreme battlefield environments of the Middle East.
“We firmly believe our products, now produced locally, will meet the stringent requirements of the Saudi armed forces,” Van Loggerenberg said.
Like Etion Create, Reutech Radar Systems has also established a solid footprint in the region. The company is expanding its market share, notably with its surveillance and tracking radars.
Anthony Green, systems and solutions specialist, said the company’s product line-up includes ground-based and naval radars for both surveillance and fire control applications. “Our RSR 906 system could be deployed against ground targets such as vehicles and dismounted troops, as well as aerial targets and in coastal surveillance against surface vessels,” he said. “As an air surveillance radar, it can designate targets, such as aircraft and drones, to a fire control system.”
The lightweight and compact fire control RTS 3200 can receive target designation from external sources, such as the RSR 906 surveillance radar. “Having acquired the target, it can output high data rate tracking to weapon systems. such as guns or missiles,” Green said.
The company’s RSR 610 radar is a fixed-panel non-rotating surveillance radar for application against ground targets, drones, and small fast-moving water-borne targets. Its compact nature makes it suitable for a vehicular role.

The defence relationship between the UK and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has deepened, after the Defence Secretary and Minister for Defence Procurement met their counterparts in Riyadh, where they agreed to progress work on creating a partnership to develop advanced new capabilities.
Alongside bilateral meetings at the World Defence Show, Defence Secretary Grant Shapps and Minister for Defence Procurement, James Cartlidge, met their counterparts, His Royal Highness Prince Khalid bin Salman Al Saud and His Excellency Talal Al-Otaibi, to discuss ways in which both countries could combine industry expertise and capabilities.
Further bilateral engagement will continue to build on our strategic defence partnership through equipment collaboration, the exchange of ideas, joint training and doctrine, industrialisation, and human capital development.
Defence Secretary, Grant Shapps said: “In an increasingly contested world, where we can no longer rely on a peace dividend and must be prepared to respond to growing threats, reinforcing our key defence relationships with allies and partners is more important than ever.

World Defense Show 2024 under the esteemed patronage of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, welcomed a flood of visitors today, the first day of public opening, and the second day of the globally important event. Central to the attractions was the new Defense Space Arena, incorporating the Space Theatre and the Defense Space Domain.
Sponsored by the Ministry of Defense in Saudi Arabia (MoD), the Defense Space Domain is a central highlight of the show. This immersive area offers an engaging and interactive introduction to space defense development. The vast potential of space capabilities, technologies, and solutions is highlighted on video screens, with exciting digital content from major industry players including BAE Systems, Boeing Space, Leo Labs and Lockheed Martin. Physical and digital space assets from both industry and institutions are also on display, demonstrating the evolution of the technology.
Visitors can also experience a walkthrough of a Space Station simulation, where digital screens provide information on the role and importance of the space domain, illustrating the critical role of space in shaping future global military capabilities.
The Space Theatre’s opening day featured two insightful sessions. The first, “The Interface between Space and Defense in Saudi Arabia” included panelists Dr. Mohammed Ali Alghamdi and Eng. Abdulrahman Nasser Alkhalaf from GAMI, along with Brigadier General (retired) Abdullah Alajmi, Business Development Director at Lockheed Martin Space, KSA. Amy Hopkins, Peraton Vice President, expertly moderated the discussion. The second session, “Space – The Challenges and Need for Collaboration” featured panelists Dan Tenney from Lockheed Martin, Morena Bernardini, General Secretary at MBDA, and Elias Montanari, a Global Space Programme and Ecosystem Expert, with moderation by Ben Baseley-Walker, Founder of Andart Global.

29 Jan 24. Joint Forces reports from the World Defense Show 2024. Under the esteemed patronage of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the World Defense Show 2024confirms a growing list of air and land assets arriving for the event in February. The air assets include established mission aircraft, fighter jets, helicopters, UAVs and the latest electric aircraft, while armoured vehicles and tanks, will be shown on the land side. This unique collection of manned and unmanned technology will form an effective showcase of the capabilities of future multi-domain operations.
The dynamic daily air display is led by the Saudi Hawks, the Royal Saudi Air Force aerobatic team, demonstrating their skills and capabilities in the distinctive green and white liveried two-seater trainers. In addition, the Chinese national aerobatic team, Ba Yi, will showcase their piloting expertise.
Other combat aircraft taking to the skies daily include the carbon fibre turboprop Calidus B250 light attack aircraft, the distinctive delta-winged Eurofighter Typhoon, the French Dassault Rafale C, and two roaring F-15s, while the Pakistan Air Force brings the thunder in the form of three JF-17 Thunder multirole combat aircraft. There will be daily displays of UAV capabilities, with the Red Cat Teal2, Firejet M180 and Skydio X10D all demonstrating their unique proficiencies.
Out on the apron, WDS 2024 features an incredible static display of more than 50 fixed wing and rotary aircraft, ranging from a Cessna Caravan to a Boeing Chinook. Other assets include the Airbus A320, A321, and Cougar helicopter, Sikorsky Seahawk and Blackhawk, Bombardier Global 6500, Embraer KC390 and the classic LM C130. Cutting edge electric aircraft are also on display including the Volocopter eVTOL air taxi.
Calidus also appears in the daily land demonstrations with the 8 x 8 Wahash multi-role armoured vehicle, alongside the Humvee Saber Light Tactical Vehicle, SAMI’s Obaya and Storm II vehicles and the all-wheel drive off-road Tatra Tactic truck. Among the 70 land assets on display in the show’s expansive courtyard area are a range of vehicles from Otokar, Terradyne, Chrystler, Oshkosh, Saab, GM and Nexter.

At WDS, Otokar exhibits two different variants of ARMA 8×8, one equipped with its 30 mm MIZRAK Turret and other with John Cockerill 105 mm turret.
ARMA 8×8 is a combat-proven modular platform with amphibious capabilities for various missions. ARMA meets survivability, protection level, and mobility requirements of modern armies. In addition to its high combat weight and spacious interiors, ARMA 8×8 also draws attention with its low silhouette.
The armored monocoque body with high ballistic and mine protection allows the integration of variety of mission equipment and weapon systems in different specifications up to 120 mm. ARMA is a platform suitable for Command and Control, Engineering, Ambulance, Recovery, Support, and similar missions.
COBRA II MRAP:
The COBRA II Mine-resistant Ambush Protected Vehicle (COBRA II MRAP) is displayed with 25 mm RCWS at WDS. Cobra II MRAP is developed to ensure high survivability in risky areas. The vehicle provides superior protection for the crew against kinetic energy, mine and IED threats while maintaining high cross-country mobility in battlefield conditions with its independent suspension system. High reliability, ease of maintenance are the other two important design criteria.
With its modular design, COBRA II MRAP provides high payload and spacious internal space for integration of weapon systems and mission equipment. The vehicle can be configured with alternative seating layouts for up to 11 personnel with 3 or 5 door configurations as per specific user requirements.
COBRA II TACTICAL WHEELED ARMORED VEHICLE:
At WDS, Otokar showcases COBRA II with two different turrets, one 12.7 mm RCWS and the other 12.7 mm MIZRAK Closed Turret.

AKREP II, built on Otokar’s initial AKREP developed in 1990s, is designed as an armored reconnaissance and surveillance vehicle and a large caliber weapon platform. Combining high firepower and survivability in a low silhouette, the AKREP II meets the current and future needs of modern armies by accommodating turrets up to 90mm cannon.
The four-wheel drive system and steerable rear axle of AKREP II greatly enhances the maneuverability capability of the vehicle. The vehicle has a superior mobility and handling capabilities in all terrain conditions no matter mud, snow or puddles. Its compact design, high level of both kinetic and mine protection, and the U-type power package placed at the rear of the vehicle make AKREP II a very special and competitive platform especially where the maneuverability is crowned with crab steering.
