Dec 03. Dy 4 Systems, a business unit of Force Computers, a Solectron company, has introduced the newest member of its Insights graphics product family, the PMC-704. The PMC-704, based on the ATI MOBILITY™ RADEON™ 9000 graphics processing engine, also known as the M9 chip, is the first graphics PMC to provide two independent channels, each with video input, overlay and display capability. It provides an unprecedented level of video I/O functionality, previously the domain of full-sized 6U speciality graphics boards. The PMC-704 enables the creation of systems that use the latest visualisation techniques including stereo helmet mounted displays, 3D terrain mapping, electronic panning and stabilisation, and “transparent vehicle” virtual displays. The ability to drive four displays from a single slot with two PMCs reduces system size, power and cost.
02 Dec 03. Barco has introduced its Embedded Visualization System ‘EVS6000’, the next generation high-performance graphics accelerator for 2D and 3D applications. The new rugged EVS6000 board is designed for integration in land-, sea- and air-based defense and security systems requiring high-performance graphics processing. With its broad video I/O capability, the EVS6000 offers a flexible solution for integration in a wide variety of applications, including vehicle embedded computers, embedded training and simulation systems, and cockpit displays. Barco’s latest graphics controller comes as a PCI Mezzanine Card (PMC) and is available both in convection-cooled and conduction-cooled formats.
01 Dec 03. TriQuint Semiconductor and Lockheed Martin announced breakthrough results for power density, power added efficiency and radio frequency (RF) lifetime for gallium nitride High Electron Mobility Transistor (HEMT) devices. Achieving breakthrough performance and improved reliability is an important step in significant size and weight reductions for radar-based defense applications.
17 Nov 03. General Dynamics Canada introduced the 4WARN Sentry, an advanced, portable, real-time biological agent detection system, at the 2003 Emergency Management Homeland Security. The briefcase-sized 4WARN Sentry is a fully automated, third-generation biological-agent detection system based on field-proven, fluorescence particle detection technology. The 4WARN Sentry has the ability to detect all aerosolized biological agents extremely rapidly, typically in less than 20 seconds.
