31 Oct 25. German Armed Forces introduce digital medical system for casualty and patient management. The German Armed Forces are equipping their medical service with SitaWare Battlefield Health – a software solution that enables casualty tracking, patient documentation and the creation of an operational picture. With the acquisition of an enterprise license, SitaWare Battlefield Health will provide the Bundeswehr with a medical command and control system – a new capability extending the proven SitaWare Suite, already in operational use across the Bundeswehr. From the point of injury to hospital treatment, medical personnel can record and follow each patient’s care pathway in real time. This enhances both the situational overview and the coordination of medical assets of the Bundeswehr. Solus Power secures MoD contract to develop next generation portable battery system ‘Kratos.’ Solus Power has secured a contract with the Ministry of Defence’s Defence and Security Accelerator (DASA) to further develop its novel dual use battery technology, Kratos. Awarded through DASA’s themed competition, Delivering operational advantage via improved self-sufficiency and operational energy innovation, the funding will accelerate development of Solus Power’s military grade portable battery unit. Working in collaboration with DASA and the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl), Solus Power will advance Kratos towards field testing. Dstl, acting as technical partner, will ensure the technology meets the operational requirements of the Royal Navy’s Future Commando Force, which is funding the work. Kratos has been recognised for its ability to enhance deployed self-sufficiency and endurance across maritime, land, and air domains, while reducing logistical burden and optimising power and energy use. Solus Power’s Kratos technology presents a ruggedised and portable lithium-ion battery pack described as a ‘Jerry can of electricity’ to provide rapid DC-to-DC charging. Its scalable architecture allows users to link multiple units for higher energy demands, making it ideal for powering field command centres, medical units, and disaster relief. Kratos is tactically portable, suitable for hand-carry, vehicle mounting, or drone deployment. Its low heat signature and silent operation enhance operational stealth, making it a dependable power source for missions where discretion is critical.

Lockheed Martin Skunk Works® (NYSE: LMT), in partnership with NASA, successfully completed the first flight of the X-59, a revolutionary, quiet supersonic aircraft designed to pave the way for faster commercial air travel.  The X-59 took off from Skunk Works’ facility at U.S. Air Force Plant 42 in Palmdale, California, before landing near NASA’s Armstrong Flight Research Center in Edwards, California. The X-59 performed exactly as planned, verifying initial flying qualities and air data performance on the way to a safe landing at its new home.

“We are thrilled to achieve the first flight of the X-59,” said OJ Sanchez, vice president and general manager of Lockheed Martin Skunk Works. “This aircraft is a testament to the innovation and expertise of our joint team, and we are proud to be at the forefront of quiet supersonic technology development.”

The X-59 is a one-of-a-kind supersonic aircraft designed to demonstrate the ability to fly at supersonic speeds while reducing the sonic boom to a gentle thump. In doing so, the X-59 aims to overcome one of the primary barriers to supersonic commercial flight, which is currently restricted over land due to noise concerns. The X-59’s successful development and flight testing will inform the establishment of new data-driven acceptable noise thresholds related to supersonic commercial flight over land, paving the way for a new generation of supersonic aircraft that can efficiently and sustainably transport passengers and cargo twice as fast as aircraft today.

“X-59 is a symbol of American ingenuity. The American spirit knows no bounds. It’s part of our DNA – the desire to go farther, faster, and even quieter than anyone has ever gone before. This work sustains America’s place as the leader in aviation and has the potential to change the way the public flies,” said Sean Duffy, acting NASA Administrator.

Skunk Works will continue to lead the aircraft’s initial flight test campaign, working closely with NASA to expand the X-59’s flight envelope over the coming months. Part of this test journey will include the X-59’s first supersonic flights, where the aircraft will achieve the optimal speed and altitude for a quiet boom. This will enable NASA to operate the X-59 to measure its sound signature and conduct community acceptance testing.  This achievement demonstrates Lockheed Martin’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of aerospace innovation and its dedication to creating cutting-edge solutions for the future of flight.

Next-generation direct liquid-cooled supercomputers will be based on the new HPE Cray Supercomputing GX5000 and feature NVIDIA Vera Rubin GPUs to advance AI-driven scientific research

NVIDIA GTC DC – HPE (NYSE:HPE) today announced, in partnership with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) and Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL), that it has been selected to deliver two state-of-the-art supercomputers, named “Mission” and “Vision”. The next-generation systems will be based on the new direct liquid-cooled HPE Cray Supercomputing GX5000 system and feature upcoming NVIDIA Vera Rubin Superchips. Mission and Vision are part of the DOE’s $370 m investment to accelerate scientific discovery, advance AI initiatives and strengthen national security.

“For decades, HPE and Los Alamos National Laboratory have collaborated on innovative supercomputing designs that deliver powerful capabilities to solve complex scientific challenges and bolster national security efforts,” said Trish Damkroger, senior vice president and general manager, HPC & AI Infrastructure Solutions at HPE. “We are proud to continue powering the lab’s journey with the upcoming Mission and Vision systems. These innovations will be among the first to feature next-generation HPE Cray supercomputing architecture to drive AI innovation and scientific impact.”

The Mission supercomputer will be four times faster than LANL’s Crossroads system and will deliver advanced capabilities in AI, modeling, and simulation to support the NNSA’s security initiatives.

Vision will build on the success of the HPE-built Venado supercomputer, which was initially designated as a system for unclassified research. Vision will offer LANL a significant leap forward in computational capabilities for AI-driven research.

Both systems will feature the newly announced HPE Cray Supercomputing GX5000, NVIDIA Vera Rubin GPUs and NVIDIA Quantum-X800 InfiniBand networking. Purpose-built for exascale computing in the AI era, HPE Cray Supercomputing GX5000 delivers multi-tenant capabilities to streamline research output and offers powerful compute with 25 percent more density1 as compared to its predecessor. The new HPE-built architecture accommodates open source server blade designs created by the Open Compute Project (OCP), providing LANL with increased flexibility.
