21 Nov 25. From Fuel Cells to Stealth Materials: NMG Expands Applications for its Graphite Composites.

Nouveau Monde Graphite Inc. (“NMG” or the “Company’’) reports positive technological advancement for the development of its product portfolio to serve high-technology markets at the forefront of performance and innovation. The Company’s latest work, carried out in collaboration with advanced materials researchers Professors Frej Mighri, Said Elkoun and Samaneh Shahgaldi associated with Canadian universities, demonstrates the versatility of NMG’s natural graphite materials beyond energy storage into electromagnetic interference (“EMI”) shielding.

Building on a foundation of scientific research on graphite–polymer composites for fuel-cell bipolar plates published in leading international journals (Polymer Engineering & Science, International Polymer Processing, Journal of Reinforced Plastics and Composites, Journal of Composites Science; 2025), NMG’s R&D team has extended its evaluation of these advanced materials to new functional domains. Supported by active collaborations with Université Laval, Université de Sherbrooke and Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières, as well as Plastiques Gagnon Inc. specialized in industrial plastics, the Company is developing and optimizing its bipolar plate composites while exploring their potential for EMI shielding and electromagnetic protection. A comprehensive series of thermo-mechanical and microstructural tests confirmed the high crystallinity (~80%), thermal stability above 400°C, and controlled coefficient of thermal expansion of NMG’s graphite–polymer composites, demonstrating robust integrity under variable conditions. The materials achieved tensile strength around 40 MPa and electrical conductivity up to 25 S/cm (12 S/cm through-plane)—a balanced combination that supports both energy and electromagnetic shielding applications.  ASTM D4935 evaluations of the same composite family showed 60–70 dB shielding effectiveness below 2 GHz and 55–65 dB across 1–6 GHz, meeting or exceeding telecom and automotive standards. These results, obtained on materials originally designed for fuel-cell applications, highlight the versatility, durability, and scalability of NMG’s graphite composite platform for next-generation lightweight protection systems in telecom, automotive, and defense sectors. Testing and validation were conducted with Novika Solutions in ISO-9001-certified facilities, compliant with ASTM D4935. Novika’s infrastructure ensures reliable and independent verification of electromagnetic performance. Graphite emerges as a strategic bridge between polymer composites and metallic shielding, enabling a new generation of multi-functional materials that combine electromagnetic protection—including radar absorption—with thermal and infrared control. As NMG advances toward defense-grade performance (≥ 80 dB), its R&D roadmap remains focused on scalable, sustainable composites that integrate energy, thermal, and stealth functionalities for intelligent systems. By testing and optimizing graphite integration into high-performance engineered materials to meet established standards, NMG expands its product portfolio for niche market segments. The Company is pursuing a diversified marketing strategy to leverage the large flake sizes distribution from its future Phase-2 Matawinie Mine for high-value industries in the Western World. These research projects were partly funded thanks to grants from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada, PRIMA Québec, and MITACS. NMG holds the necessary licences for the use of these projects’ results for research, development and commercial exploitation, or has a right of first refusal regarding the commercial exploitation of these projects’ results. 24 Nov 25. Systematic strengthens focus on national security and critical infrastructure with new business unit. The Danish software company is transferring defence technology to civilian use and has established a new business unit, National Security & Infrastructure (NSI), dedicated to protecting society’s vital systems against hybrid threats. The first IT solution is now ready to go. Hybrid warfare and digital threats are blurring the line between civil and military security, creating a need for solutions that can protect critical systems and infrastructure. As a supplier of software systems to the armed forces, authorities and the private sector, Systematic has therefore set up a new business unit: National Security & Infrastructure (NSI).  This new unit will be responsible for developing software solutions that safeguard critical infrastructure and strengthen collaboration between authorities, emergency services and private stakeholders.

“Threats to society’s infrastructure are no longer separate from military threats. We are seeing cyberattacks, surveillance and sabotage attempts, targeting everything from energy supply to communication networks. With NSI, we are building on our experience from defence, public authorities and the utilities sector to develop solutions that enable civilian stakeholders to respond quickly and coordinate with the authorities when necessary,” says Nikolaj Bramsen, CEO of Systematic.

From battlefield to power stations

The establishment of NSI reflects a significant shift in the threat landscape. While Systematic’s software has primarily been used in the healthcare sector and for military operations to date, the company is now seeing growing demand from civil sectors – particularly energy, utilities and emergency services.  Systematic has previously transferred its defence technology to civilian use with great success. Its maritime coordination system, SITE, used by companies such as Ørsted, Vattenfall, RWE and Dominion Energy, is based on the same technology as the company’s military command-and-control system, SitaWare, deployed by more than 50 countries and NATO.  With its new NSI unit, this interaction is now being expanded to incorporate solutions that can prevent and deal with attacks on critical infrastructure.

New product builds on widely used defence technology

As part of NSI, Systematic is launching a new software product called Rezilient, which gathers and analyses data from sensors, drones and surveillance systems. This solution provides owners and authorities with a shared situational overview and can – if agreed by both parties – be integrated with national emergency response and defence systems.

“We are leveraging the same core principles that have made SitaWare a global standard within defence and applying them to the civil domain. This is not about militarising society – it is about ensuring cohesion between systems, so that energy companies, emergency services and authorities can share information and collaborate effectively when facing threats or attacks,” explains Anders Goul Nielsen, director of the new business unit.

A strategic focus area

The establishment of NSI is part of Systematic’s strategy heading towards 2030, aiming to strengthen the company’s focus on national security and societal resilience.

“SitaWare is already in use for disaster response and humanitarian missions, where rapid coordination and action save lives. That experience can – and should – be used to protect the infrastructure our entire society depends on,” says Anders Goul Nielsen.

The new unit is also expected to become a growth area for Systematic, which is currently recruiting new talent within leadership, software development and specialist roles across Aarhus, Copenhagen and Bucharest.

 

21 Nov 25. Office of Strategic Capital Agrees to Joint $700m Conditional Loan Commitment with Vulcan Elements and ReElement Technologies. The Office of Strategic Capital (OSC) announces a joint $700m conditional loan commitment with Vulcan Elements (“Vulcan”) and ReElement Technologies (“ReElement”) to increase domestic Neodymium Iron Boron (NdFeB) magnet production and significantly bolster U.S. critical minerals supply chains. The OSC commitment includes two separate loans, one to Vulcan for $620m and one to ReElement for $80 m. These loans will directly support the production of advanced rare earth element separation, metallization, and magnet manufacturing capabilities in the United States. With the increased manufacturing and processing capabilities enabled by OSC’s loans, Vulcan and ReElement anticipate collectively producing up to 10,000 metric tons of NdFeB magnet material in the next several years, thereby significantly reducing the U.S. NdFeB magnet supply chain gap.

“These OSC conditional commitments build on the swift and decisive actions taken by the Trump Administration to secure a domestic supply chain for the magnets used in chip manufacturing, drones, electric vehicles, fighter jets, industrial motors, nuclear submarines, and satellites,” said the Honorable Emil Michael, Under Secretary of War for Research and Engineering. “Following the Department of War’s agreement earlier this year with MP Materials, these conditional loan commitments with Vulcan and ReElement present a forward-leaning approach to further strengthen America’s magnet production.”

The funding for OSC’s conditional loans comes from the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA), passed by Congress and signed by President Trump in July 2025. The Act provides up to $100 bn in total OSC lending authority specifically for critical minerals production and related industries and projects. The Department of War will also receive warrants from Vulcan and ReElement as part of the joint commitment. Additionally, the Department of Commerce’s Creating Helpful Incentives to Produce Semiconductors (CHIPS) Program Office signed a preliminary non-binding letter of intent to provide $50m in proposed federal incentives under the CHIPS and Science Act for the purchase of equipment in parallel with OSC’s financing. The CHIPS incentives will provide further investment stability to strengthen domestic critical minerals production. The Department of Commerce will also receive $50 m of equity in Vulcan Elements. The conditional loan commitments between OSC and the respective companies specify additional steps both companies must take to proceed toward financial close on the loan, to include fulfilling financial, legal, technical, and other due diligence requirements. No OSC funds are disbursed until all parties have completed or met the conditions for disbursement as specified in the loan commitment. The time between conditional commitment and financial close varies by project to ensure full due diligence and ultimately protect the American taxpayer.
