13 Feb 19. Leonardo DRS Signs Strategic Agreement with International Golden Group to Support U.A.E. Forces. Leonardo DRS, Inc. announced today that it will be adding significant resources in the United Arab Emirates (U.A.E.) in support of the country’s defense forces.

The company’s Land Electronics business unit has signed a teaming agreement with U.A.E.-based International Golden Group PJSC (“IGG”).  The partnership brings together one of the U.A.E.’s premier defense companies with a leading U.S. technology company to deliver wide-ranging projects for the country’s military forces.

As part of the agreement, Leonardo DRS will establish a new engineering and support facility in IGG’s Industrial Park – Abu Dhabi to assist new projects for the Emirati forces and includes the hiring and training of locals to fill new high-tech manufacturing positions.

New projects Leonardo DRS and IGG expect to collaborate on include, advanced communication systems integration in support of various tactical C4I projects, and on-board vehicle power systems which provide combat vehicles with up to 120kw of mobile electrical power for complex C4ISR systems, mobile command posts, radars, weapon systems and other power-hungry expeditionary capabilities.

“We are proud to be supporting the Emirati forces with advanced technology and a strong local partner in the International Golden Group,” said Bill Guyan, vice president and general manager of the Leonardo DRS Land Electronics business unit.  “Additionally, the United Arab Emirates and the United States have a robust military relationship, and we are eager to work with IGG to provide the guidance, technology and support required to increase interoperability between the U.S. and Emirati forces, allowing them to strategically operate more closely,” Guyan said..

The agreement deepens an existing long-term relationship with the U.A.E. Government while adding the strength of a strong and well-resourced Emirati business partner.

“The recent growth of the Leonardo DRS Land Electronics business in the U.A.E. has produced this natural next step.  We are proud to lay down enduring roots and a strong business presence.  We remain committed to the success of our UAE customer and UAE Vision 2021.” Guyan said.

12 Feb 19. At IDEX 2019 in Abu Dhabi from 17 to 21 February 2019, Rohde & Schwarz will present SOVERON, a holistic system solution that provides government customers with a secure, high-performance network architecture based on state-of-the-art hardware and software, thus creating national digital sovereignty and technological independence. As key components of the SOVERON architecture, Rohde & Schwarz will present its innovative SOVERON software defined radios (SDR) for tactical communications scenarios and for deployment on airborne platforms. The Rohde & Schwarz SDR family includes SOVERON D, which is the product created under the joint radio system project of the German Armed Forces (SVFuA).

For these software defined radios, the company has designed high data rate, anti-jam waveforms to match diverse mission requirements. For every communications scenario, users can select the waveform and encryption that best suit their requirements in terms of range, data rate and jam resistance.

Also at IDEX, Rohde & Schwarz will showcase its R&S NAVICS integrated communications system for internal and external communications on board all classes of ships. Relying on commercial IT technology to a large extent, the system is especially cost-effective, and its modern graphical user interface (GUI) makes it intuitive to operate. Stationary and mobile voice terminals ensure uninterrupted communications everywhere on board the ship. The system is fully IP based, allowing the integration of further communications services such as video over IP, broadcast, alarm functions and shipborne telephone systems.

Another highlight that will be on display is the Rohde & Schwarz ELINT solution. The system offers exceptional ease of operation and comprehensive functionality, and has been optimized for detecting, recording and analyzing modern radar signals. It is designed to handle challenging signal scenarios and has already proven its value in operation, especially when it comes to acquiring weak and LPI signals in dense signal environments and analyzing state-of-the-art multifunction radars with complex signal structures. The ELINT system is modular and scalable and can be deployed on a variety of platforms.

Secure voice and data communications is a vital prerequisite for successful digital transformation. To effectively protect networks and critical infrastructures against attacks, Rohde & Schwarz has developed a broad range of hardware and software products that counter attacks proactively rather than reactively. Among these are Ethernet encryption solutions that protect authorities, organizations and enterprises against espionage and data manipulation. The Rohde & Schwarz network encryption devices are approved by the German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) and can be used flexibly with many stationary and mobile applications.

Rohde & Schwarz will showcase its secure communications and cybersecurity portfolio at IDEX 2019 in Abu Dhabi in hall 8, German Pavilion, booth C19.

11 Feb 19. American Power Systems to showcase APS-500 alternator regulator. American Power Systems will showcase its new APS-500 alternator regulator to visitors and attendees at IDEX 2019 in Abu Dhabi.

Designed to reduce vehicle downtime and limit equipment and maintenance costs, the APS-500 uses multiple data points – such as battery voltage, current in/out, battery and alternator temperature – to regulate the charging of most commercially available batteries.

‘The APS-500 is able to communicate via control area network communication and may be used with 12- 24- and 48-volt systems, among others. These units are customisable with no hardware changes and represent ideal battery charging for marine- and land-based applications,’ says Amy Lank, president of American Power Systems.

A military variant of the APS-500 with MIL-SPEC connectors is scheduled for release later in 2019.

Founded in 2006, American Power Systems specialises in the design and development of power conversion and distribution systems from 12VDC to 58VDC, up to 10kW for diverse applications.

The company’s line of APS products includes high output alternators, custom alternator brackets and onboard DC power generators. APS can be commonly found powering equipment such as transceivers, amplifier kits, communication equipment and counter-IED devices. (Source: Shephard)
