30 Jun 16. NATO exercise proves feasibility of real-time decentralised ISR data flows. NATO’s recently completed exercise ‘Unified Vision 2016’ (UV16) has demonstrated that complex, real-time intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) data can be distributed and reassembled in a fluid, decentralised way among the allies, according to NATO officials. While more technical challenges lie ahead, the next step will be political: to incorporate this capability into policy and decision-making, they said.
“While moving live imagery around is never easy, the technology is not so much the issue now we’ve proven that the decentralised approach [to joint ISR data dissemination and exploitation] works,” Rob Murray, head of ISR at NATO’s Defence Investment Division in Brussels, told IHS Jane’s on 30 June.
