09 Apr 15. Ametherm released a new UL-approved circuit protection thermistor that is the industry’s first to offer a 277 V rating optimized for applications including LED lighting and ballasts, power factor correction (PFC) circuits, and inrush current control in uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) with ratings under 500 W. Ametherm’s new SL10 10003 thermistor features the highest energy, continuous current, and ambient temperature ratings for any device in its size and class. The device handles steady state current up to 3 A with a maximum received energy rating of 17 J. The device features a dissipation constant of 11mW/°C and can handle a body temperature of 151°C at 100% of its maximum current rating. Maximum capacitance at the device’s 277 V voltage rating is 200 deg. F. The SL10 10003 provides a more compact alternative to larger NTC devices or the more expensive combination of a power resistor, relay and timer or implementation of the same functionality with active circuits. The SL10 10003 thermistor is available direct or through distributors such as Mouser, Digi-Key, Newark element14 and Farnell. Samples and production quantities of the SL10 10003 are available now, with factory lead times of four to five weeks.

07 Apr 15. LM Standardizes on Splunk Software for the F-35 Lightning II. Splunk Inc., the leading software platform for real-time Operational Intelligence, today announced it was awarded a contract to support Lockheed Martin’s F-35 Lightning II Program. Splunk has provided Lockheed Martin with Splunk® Enterprise to monitor and analyze IT systems and network behavior for the Autonomic Logistics Information System (ALIS), which supports the F-35 Lightning II, a 5th generation fighter jet. Splunk Enterprise is initially being used by Lockheed Martin in 25 different operating environments for IT operations and application delivery, analyzing machine data from the systems and networks supporting the ALIS infrastructure to help ensure applications are operating at peak performance. The ALIS is the off-board IT backbone of the F-35 Lightning II Program, with capabilities to capture and analyze the fleet’s overall readiness in U.S. military branches and in a number of other countries using the F-35.
“Splunk is a proven leader in analyzing and visualizing machine data, and we are pleased to support this critical program,” said Bill Cull, vice president of global public sector, Splunk. “F-35 aircraft are flying data centers that generate a massive amount of information on each flight. The IT systems and applications supporting this program are essential, and Splunk Enterprise’s role is to support daily ALIS operations.” (Source: ASD Network)

09 Apr 15. AMETEK Electronic Components & Packaging unveiled its new S-Bend Ceramic Feedthrough design at this year’s Optical Fiber Communications (OFC) Conference in Los Angeles. The S-Bend Ceramic Feedthrough is a new high-speed transmission design for receiver and modulator applications. The patent-pending design incorporates a curved s-bend cross section, which provides a smooth uninterrupted RF signal path. This new design provides a high-frequency interconnect advantage by eliminating 90-degree transitions (vertical vias and stair-
