30 Aug 12. Northrop Grumman Corporation’s Battlefield Airborne Communications Node (BACN) has completed 3,000 missions flying aboard the E-11A Bombardier Global Express BD-700 aircraft in support of overseas contingency missions. The 451st Tactical Airborne Gateway at Kandahar Airfield, Afghanistan, executed the 3,000th mission on July 14. BACN is a high-altitude, airborne communications and information gateway system that provides situational awareness and command and control coordination between warfighters and commanders. With a suite of computers and radio systems, BACN bridges and extends voice communications and battlespace information from numerous sources. Northrop Grumman was recently awarded a $106m contract modification to extend the deployment and operation of BACN payloads installed in three E-11A aircraft and three EQ-4B Block 20 Global Hawk unmanned aerial vehicles. The award supports operations through June 2013. Northrop Grumman developed BACN for the U.S. Air Force to overcome the communications limitations posed by the rugged terrain in Afghanistan. Since the system was deployed in 2008, it has delivered near 24/7 coverage in theater. Northrop Grumman is the prime contractor for the development, fielding and maintenance of the BACN system. The company was awarded the first BACN contract in April 2005 by the U.S. Air Force Life Cycle Management Center (formerly

04 Sep 12. World Premier for Saab Soldier C2 and Personal Radio Integration. Saab showed the 9LAND SOLDIER sPAD for the first time at Eurosatory exhibition in Paris in June 2012. The launch in Paris was very successful and therefore Saab decided to make a personal radio integration step for the MSPO 2012, even though the product is designed to radio agnostic. The technical integration has been concluded in a rather short time frame. It is a pleasure that Saab, together with Radmor during the MSPO 2012, can show that Saab’s light weight 9LAND SOLDIER sPAD works very well integrated with Radmor’s PSR 35010. All features of the PSR 35010 radio makes it a good companion for the 9LAND SOLDIER sPad and together they create one of the lightest and smallest solutions of soldier C2 systems on the market. The integrated light weight solution makes the individual soldier more efficient to perform his or her mission and provides command as well as control capabilities and computer power.

05 Sep 12. Northrop Grumman Corporation submitted its proposal for the development and integration phase of the U.S. Marine Corps Common Aviation Command and Control System (CAC2S). The CAC2S provides a complete modernization of the Marine Air Command and Control System. CAC2S will replace dissimilar legacy systems with a common, open, modular, scalable design based on proven, high-technology readiness level hardware and software components. Northrop Grumman’s cost-effective offering builds on and enhances the communications, processing and display functionality previously developed. It also integrates critical sensor and data communication capabilities including Link 16, the Composite Tracking Network and AN/TPS-59 and AN/TPS-63 radars.
