———————————————————————–10 Apr 12. Micron Technology, Inc. announced a new solid-state drive (SSD) that broadens Micron’s client product portfolio to serve the rapidly emerging Ultrabook™ category. The newly announced drive is based on the proven architecture of Micron’s popular RealSSD™ C400 drives, providing the same high performance and reliability. The C400 mSATA drive is designed to work in ultrathin, high-performance SSD-based systems and can also act as a cache drive in dual-drive systems. SSD-caching systems have both a hard-disk drive and a low-capacity SSD. These systems use software to automatically identify the most frequently used files and programs and then access those files from the SSD, providing greater performance than a hard-disk drive, but at a lower price point than a stand-alone SSD. The mSATA form factor is an emerging standard that allows ultrathin notebook manufacturers to integrate a high-capacity SSD in a space that is about one-third of the size of a standard business card (3cm x 5cm). That tiny footprint, coupled with the C400’s inherent power savings, light weight, and durability, make this drive ideal for new mobile designs.

13 Apr 12. General Dynamics Global Imaging Technologies has introduced the new Cineflex ELITE, a light-weight, compact, Super 35 format digital production camera featuring a design that ensures quick, affordable transport and simple rigging onto a wide variety of mobile platforms. The newest camera in the Cineflex family of 5-axis gyro-stabilized camera systems, the Cineflex ELITE was developed in close collaboration between cinematographers and General Dynamics’ design engineers. The Cineflex ELITE integrates the proven 5-axis stability of General Dynamics’ Cineflex camera systems with state of the art Canon Premier® lenses and the award winning ARRI Alexa® camera. Originally designed for helicopters and aerial platforms, Cineflex camera systems deliver superior image quality, offer versatility, and are easily integrated onto cable and rail systems, aircraft, automobiles, boats and other mobile platforms. The Cineflex family of cameras is compatible with a variety of certified mounts and can be rigged in one-fourth the time of other Super 35 format digital production camera systems on the market. The exceptional image performance is achieved through extended, clean highlights, natural skin tones, excellent color separation and cinematic depth of field.

12 Apr 12. ITT Exelis Geospatial Systems has delivered GeoEye’s next-generation commercial imaging system for the GeoEye-2 satellite to Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company in Sunnyvale, Calif. When operational in 2013, GeoEye-2 will deliver the highest resolution and most accurate color imagery to GeoEye’s commercial, government and international customers. The Exelis-built imaging payload for GeoEye-2 includes a telescope, sensor subsystem and outer barrel assembly and has the potential to capture panchromatic ground sample distance imagery of the Earth’s surface at 0.34-meter, or 13.38-inch, ground resolution.
