08 Jul 25. Magtec secures DTEP funding to deliver world-first in submarine propulsion technology. Magtec, the UK’s leading innovator in electric driveline technology, has secured funding through the Defence Technology Exploitation Programme (DTEP) to deliver a world-first in submarine propulsion technologies. This game-changing project will enhance power efficiency and capability, cementing Magtec’s role at the leading edge of defence engineering. Through this collaboration with MacTaggart Scott, Magtec will develop Permanent Magnet Motors (PMM), drastically reducing heat emissions, and overall motor size. This breakthrough promises to transform the Royal Navy’s fleet. DTEP is providing £500,000 in funding, which is being matched by Magtec.

Magtec was recently visited by Secretary of State for Defence John Healey MP who described the company as “deeply impressive” and said that it has the “long established manufacturing skills and creative flair to improve the battlefield performance and the environmental performance of military vehicles.”

Marcus Jenkins, chief technical officer at Magtec, emphasised the strategic importance of this development: “This is more than just an improvement. Our Permanent Magnet Motors will deliver unmatched power and efficiency while slashing weight and maintenance needs. This is a monumental advancement in defence technology, and we’re proud to be leading the charge.”

Andrew Gilligan, managing director at Magtec, echoed the sentiment: “Magtec has always been at the forefront of electrification, and this project is proof of our ability to deliver world-class defence solutions. The technology we’re developing will provide the Royal Navy with an operational advantage that was once thought impossible.”

The development reinforces Magtec’s position as a strategic innovator in the UK defence sector, proving that British SMEs can drive technological advancements on a global scale. By partnering with higher-tier defence suppliers, Magtec is delivering cutting-edge propulsion system enhancements and ensuring the UK retains full sovereign capability in advanced defence technology. This partnership will boost the UK’s defence supply chain with homegrown innovation, reduce maintenance costs while increasing global operational readiness and ensure long-term strategic advantages in effectiveness.

04 Jul 25. BAE to Develop AI-Powered Software to Improve Battlefield Medical Care for Warfighters. The Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) has selected BAE Systems to continue development and support deployment of the Battlefield Assisted Trauma Distributed Operations Kit (BATDOK®) through the new Force Optimization through Rapid-prototyping, Gear Enhancements & Innovative Technology (FORGE-IT) program. Together, BATDOK® and FORGE-IT will improve and modernize the capabilities of warfighters to provide medical care for wounded servicemembers on the battlefield and ensure they receive proper treatment into long-term care.

BATDOK® is an AFRL application developed with the support of BAE Systems that creates a complete and reliable record of injuries and treatments from the point of injury through recovery. Traditionally, medical care administered on the battlefield is only recorded on paper. BATDOK® records medical care electronically, ensuring the details of a patient’s injury and field treatment are seamlessly transferred to the nurses and doctors providing ongoing care.

FORGE-IT will build on BATDOK®, continuing to enhance remote patient monitoring and improving medical care in the field through clinical decision support powered by embedded artificial intelligence capabilities.

“At BAE Systems, our goal has always been to protect those who protect us,” said Nathaniel Wiesner, vice president and general manager of Ground Systems & Services for BAE Systems Space & Mission Systems. “Through projects like FORGE-IT, we’re augmenting the abilities of our nation’s warfighters to provide critical medical care in high-threat scenarios and ensure that those who are wounded are given effective treatment in the field.”

Data collected by BATDOK® and FORGE-IT will be integrated into the Department of Defense’s Joint Operational Medicine Information Systems (JOMIS) care delivery platform, which ensures delivery of comprehensive health services for U.S. Armed Forces patients in deployed and home station medical care facilities. Through this integration, these systems will help clinicians deliver effective care and make sure service members’ injuries are properly documented. FORGE-IT represents the latest innovation in BAE Systems’ efforts to support and protect our nation’s warfighters on and off the battlefield. (Source: ASD Network)

10 Jul 25. Sentrycs, a global leader in protocol-manipulation-based counter-drone technology, also known as Cyber over RF, announced today the release of Version 6.0 of its software suite. Developed in close coordination with operational teams in the field, this release brings significant upgrades across detection, mitigation, and the user interface. It addresses the growing need to protect wide and infrastructure-limited areas from unauthorized drone activity.

A key advancement in the new version is the extension of the system’s mitigation range to a 10-kilometer diameter, to support existing customers with broader protection operations, including extended border protection, where expansion in both detection and mitigation range plays a critical role. This enhancement is combined with full 360-degree coverage from a single sensor, significantly reducing the number of sensors required in the field. It enables more efficient, cost-effective deployment across large and complex environments.

Another major milestone is Sentrycs’ support for DJI drones using the OcuSync 4.0 protocol. This includes advanced drone models such as the DJI Air 3, Mini 4 Pro, and Matrice 4. These drones are widely recognized for their sophisticated communication capabilities and maneuverability. With version 6.0, Sentrycs enables not only detection and mitigation but complete protocol-level takeover.

The new software version also introduces an enhanced command-and-control interface. The updated C2 experience is more intuitive, faster, and visually streamlined, helping operators manage threats with greater speed and situational awareness, while simplifying workflows during critical missions. Additional upgrades include improved signal processing through software that allows the system to accurately track and identify drones even in noisy or low-signal environments, as well as new predictive timing algorithms that ensure stable communication with distant drones. These enhancements are delivered entirely through software, with no need for hardware modifications.

“Version 6.0 reflects Sentrycs’ agile development model—driven by ongoing dialogue with our customers in the field. Each feature addresses a specific operational challenge, from securing remote borders to countering the newest commercial drones. The result is a flexible, future-ready system that delivers actionable capabilities where and when they’re most needed”, said Rotem Epelbaum, VP Development at Sentrycs.

Unlike conventional C-UAS solutions that rely on a multi-layered approach to detection, where multiple technologies are used, such as Electro-Optics, Radars, and Radio Frequency (RF) scanners and fuse together data from these different sources to identify a drone, Sentrycs’ technology understands the communication signals between drones and their operators at the bit level, and extracts key insights from the data layer. Within a matter of seconds, it passively identifies the drone down to the serial number, allowing for faster, more precise mitigation. This data analysis also delivers advanced situational awareness, including the ability to estimate the operator’s location.

Already operational in over 20 countries across six continents, Sentrycs’ solutions protect critical infrastructure, military bases, borders, and law enforcement agencies worldwide. The company’s unique approach—based on protocol manipulation—delivers simple-to-operate, proven, reliable, and lawful results in even the most complex threat environments.
