10 Mar 05. ACSA Underwater GPS France has launched an embedded Ultra-Stable Clock specially designed for AUVs. Key features of that board are: 10-8 clock stability, low power consumption, automatic synchronization on GPS time using vehicle’s GPS receiver, PC-104 size. Time is delivered through serial and TCP/IP links (NTP protocol). 8 Fully programmable trigger lines are used to synchronize up to 8 payloads. The electronic board is delivered with a manual and a configuration software. ACSA proposes also a surface version of this board to synchronize realtime computer clocks on GPS-UTC. This product is already in service onboard numerous AUVs worldwide.

11 Mar 05. Radstone Embedded Computing today announced the GS16 standalone Gigabit Ethernet switch. Based on the architecture of the highly successful GBX16 Gigabit Ethernet switch, it is designed to provide customers with a powerful, flexible and reliable solution where the requirement is to situate the Ethernet switch outside the system chassis. It is the only product of its type currently available. Housed in a fully rugged yet light weight and space efficient conduction-cooled enclosure, connection to the GS16 is via the rugged front panel connectors. These connectors are IP68 rated against humidity, salt spray and dust when mated. Furthermore, the construction of the GS16’s front panel lends itself to customization to accommodate varying connector types including optical connectors when the optically expanded variant is optioned. Providing sixteen 10/100/1000 Mbits/sec Gigabit ports, the GS16 incorporates advanced management software allowing guaranteed bandwidth on a per port or per VLAN basis. Port aggregation allows multiple ports to act as a single trunk, or provides redundant ports for reliability within a network. Beyond this, and in line with latest DoD networking requirements, the GS16 provides IPv6 capability for traffic policing and Quality of Service (QoS) functionality. The GS16 is fully integrated and provides management software running within the secure environment of VxWorks. As standard, the GBX16 incorporates Radstone’s built-in test (BIT), which provides extensive and configurable testing of the GBX16 hardware. Its high-performance design offers a comprehensive set of features including port trunking, broadcast storm protection, extensive VLAN support, IGMP snooping, Rapid Spanning Tree and link aggregation; and for Quality of Service, access control lists and bandwidth provisioning. The GS16 is available immediately.

14 Mar 05. Curtiss-Wright Controls Embedded Computing (CWCEC) has announced a new dual-channel video compression/decompression board, the Orion, available in both PMC and PCI form factors for use in VME, CompactPCI and desktop PCI systems. The Orion features dual on-board JPEG 2000 engines to support full-frame encoding of standard 625-line PAL or 525-line NTSC composite video. With significantly better low bit-rate compression performance than its predecessor, JPEG, JPEG 2000 is a new image coding system that uses state-of-the-art compression techniques based on wavelet technology. In input mode, Orion accepts up to 10 single-ended or 4 differential analog PAL or NTSC video inputs, two of which can be selected for simultaneous JPEG 2000 compression. In output mode, Orion receives one or two JPEG 2000 data streams via the 64-bit, 66 MHz PCI bus, decompresses the data streams, and outputs the resulting one or two independent PAL or NTSC video output signals via the 20-way MDR sockets located on the board’s front panel. As part of a video capture and recording system, the resulting compressed video streams can be stored locally or distributed over a network to a remote display.
