13 Dec 06. Curtiss-Wright Controls Embedded Computing has announced the availability of conduction-cooled rugged versions of its popular CHAMP-FX digital signal processor (DSP) 6U VME64x and VITA-41 engines, making this dual-FPGA board ideal for demanding signal processing applications that require survivability in harsh environments. In addition, Curtiss-Wright has qualified the high performance IP blocks included in its CHAMPtools-FX Design Kit for use over the entire Level 200 (-40°C to 85°C) temperature range, to speed and simplify the development of systems based on the CHAMP-FX. The dual Xilinx Virtex-II Pro™-based CHAMP-FX, previously available in a range of air-cooled configurations, can now be specified in conduction-cooled rugged versions that fully meet Curtiss-Wright’s Level 100 (-40°C to 71°C) and Level 200 ruggedization guidelines. Curtiss-Wright conduction-cooled cards are designed for use in high shock and vibration environments and are constructed with a unique advanced hybrid aluminum/copper frame, which provides mechanical stiffening while conducting heat from the electronic components to the edge of the card where it is transferred to the chassis. These conduction-cooled cards comply with the mechanical specifications controlled by the IEEE 1101.2 VME specification.

13 Dec 06. Curtiss-Wright Controls Embedded Computing has announced that its groundbreaking new CHAMP-AV6 VPX/VPX-REDI digital signal processor (DSP) card is shipping to defense and aerospace customers for use in a variety of high-end applications including a ground-based defensive aid sensor system, next generation ground and air-borne radars, and signal intelligence platforms. Curtiss-Wright is delivering both boards and integrated VPX development systems to these customers. The CHAMP-AV6 is the first DSP engine available in the new VPX (VITA 46) and VPX-REDI (VITA 48) high performance, rugged form factors. Curtiss-Wright’s CHAMP-AV6 is the company’s most advanced, highest performance COTS technology. The CHAMP-AV6 is the industry’s first DSP engine built in compliance with the new VPX and VPX-REDI bus standards. The VPX standards provide the next generation of performance and rugged packaging for 6U form factor embedded computing with unprecedented backplane I/O connectivity and greatly improved thermal management.

13 Dec 06. Curtiss-Wright Controls Embedded Computing announced an expansion of their partnership to provide integrated solutions for network lab automation. EdenTree’s Lab Manager software, the Lab Operating System™ and leading software platform for managing, scheduling, configuring, and tracking lab resources, provides a graphical user interface (GUI) and API for controlling Curtiss-Wright’s GLX4000 series, its fourth-generation non-blocking, multi-protocol physical layer switches. The products have been integrated since early 2005. Today’s announcement reaffirms the companies’ mutual commitment to maintaining and expanding integration of their respective products, providing their common customers in the network equipment and storage area networking (SAN) industries with easier and better access to the connectivity management features they require for testing current and future technologies. Lab Manager’s drag-and-drop GUI allows test engineers, developers, customer support personnel, and other lab users to design and schedule test topologies consisting of devices that are interconnected by GLX4000 switches. The solution transparently and dynamically builds the topologies, eliminating manual recabling and providing automated and remote control of test topologies, easier sharing of equipment, and a dramatic increase in test velocity.
