19 Apr 15. Finland seeks information about new artillery systems. The Finnish Defence Force has a requirement to procure new self-propelled artillery systems. To this end, the Logistics Command has issued an RFI seeking information from potential suppliers about new 155mm self-propelled artillery systems. The information would be used to plan a future procurement. MPI assesses that the ongoing Finnish general election will play a vital role in whether the new government decides to proceed with the procurement or not. It is clear that the Army has been pushing self-propelled artillery systems, and a decision from the government can be expected by July 2015. Changes in artillery procurement programmes in Norway and Sweden last year, have led to increased anticipation from suppliers over Finland’s plans.
