Galvion, a global leader in the design and manufacture of innovative head systems, power and data management solutions, and integrated soldier systems, is expanding its BATLCHRG™ wireless charging capability with the introduction of BATLCHRG™ UX at DSEI 2025. BATLCHRG UX is a portable wireless charging system that provides autonomous recharging for unmanned robotic platforms through magnetic resonance technology. Designed for ground/in-field placement, customized electronics and receivers on the unmanned system enable power transfer when the UxS lands on the base power transmission unit, eliminating tethered charging or return-to-base delays. Wide surface charging area removes any requirement for precise alignment. Engineered for agility and resilience in the most austere and contested tactical environments, the system delivers power through obstacles such as snow, ice, water and soil, and can be tactically deployed beneath debris to support covert operations. Compatible with multiple power sources, including solar, batteries and solid fuel cells, the system can be operated remotely via tactical radio or satellite. When deployed as a series of tactical recharging nodes, BATLCHRG UX allows unmanned systems to transit between operating areas without the need to return to the operator for re-charging. Dislocating the UxS from operator location significantly reduces human exposure to battlefield threats, enhances logistic efficiency and drives extended platform endurance for robotic systems.
Galvion originally demonstrated its BATLCHRG wireless charging concept at SOF Week in May 2024 in a vehicle-mounted operation scenario, with power transmission base in a vehicle seat and receiver integrated in soldier-worn vest. The set-up demonstrated that soldiers could charge multiple battery powered systems through the wireless power transfer system. Like BATLCHRG UX, this robust wireless solution has excellent power transfer rates and efficiency, a broad position tolerance to account for movement and misalignment of surfaces, and functionality even in the harshest environments. The manned wireless charging capability is known as BATLCHRG MX.

04 Sep 25. ESSM partners reveal plans for development of new variant. The US-led NATO SeaSparrow Consortium is planning the design and development of an upgraded RIM-162 Evolved SeaSparrow Missile (ESSM) variant to follow on from the current ESSM Block 2 ship self-defence missile, according to a solicitation posted on 26 August by the NATO SeaSparrow Project Office (NSPO). NavalX (the innovation organisation for the US Navy and Marine Corps) and the US Office of Naval Research (ONR) advised industry of a forthcoming briefing to outline requirements for a future ESSM evolution – dubbed the Next Significant Variant (NSV) – and the operational techniques and technical capabilities that may be needed, the solicitation noted. The NATO SeaSparrow Consortium is a 12-country partnership comprising Australia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Germany, Greece, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Türkiye, and the United States. A multinational industry team led by Raytheon is responsible for development, production, integration, and sustainment activities. ESSM Block 2 – the current production standard – completed development in 2021 and achieved initial operational capability with the US Navy in December that year. An evolution of the Block 1 round, Block 2 has introduced a new dual-mode active/semi-active X-band radar seeker to provide the option of terminal engagement without illumination support. The introduction of the new dual-mode seeker increases the diameter of the missile front end from 8 inch to 10 inch (202 mm to 254 mm). Warhead improvements and an updated guidance and control section are also embodied, as is a new Dual Band Transceiver, using both S-band and X-band for in-flight data communications. (Source: Janes)
04 Sep 25. Firehawk Aerospace demonstrates 3D-printed hybrid rocket motor. Firehawk Aerospace recently conducted its first flight test of a 3D-printed Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System (GMLRS) analogue hybrid rocket engine system, the company said in a 26 August statement. The test demonstrated Firehawk Aerospace’s ability to additively manufacture a hybrid rocket engine system as part of an ongoing Phase III Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) contract with the Army Applications Laboratory (AAL), the statement noted. This was the first in a series of demonstrations under the AAL contract. “Firehawk will next flight test its Javelin-class and Stinger-class analogues, which are designed as drop-in solid rocket motor replacements for existing DoD [Department of Defense] weapon systems,” the statement said. Rafael Advanced Defense Systems and Hyundai Rotem Company (HRC) have officially signed a Teaming Agreement to cooperate on the integration, production, marketing, localization, and full lifecycle support of the TROPHY Active Protection System (APS) on HRC’s K2 Main Battle Tank and future platforms for the Republic of Korea. The agreement was signed today at the HRC booth during the MSPO 2025, in a ceremony attended by senior executives from both companies, solidifying a significant step in Korean–Israeli defense cooperation. This strategic partnership follows an initial Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by the companies, and now sets a clear framework for joint activities supporting the Republic of Korea’s APS program and additional global opportunities.
“This agreement represents a shared commitment to advancing battlefield survivability for next-generation armored platforms,” said Tzvi Marmor, Executive Vice President and Head of Rafael’s Land and Naval Systems Division.
“We are proud to deepen our collaboration with Hyundai Rotem and look forward to combining Rafael’s operational combat experience with Korea’s industrial and technological strength to support both local and international defense needs.”
Hyundai Rotem announced that it will integrate Rafael’s combat-proven Trophy Active Protection System (APS) onto the K2 main battle tank, including the Polonized K2PL version, marking the first time the Korea platform will be equipped with such a system.
“With a strong track record on the battlefield, the Trophy APS offers a significant opportunity to enhance the protection of the K2 main battle tank.” said Hyung-Joon Jo, Senior Vice President and Head of Hyundai Rotem’s Defense Solutions R&D Center. “Through a strategic teaming agreement, both companies will work closely to optimize and fully integrate the APS, tailoring it specifically for the K2 while ensuring adaptability for a wide range of customers. We expect that the Trophy APS will also benefit greatly from the global market expansion of the K2 main battle tank.”
Industry observers note that the partnership could enhance the K2’s competitiveness in overseas tenders, particularly in Europe, where several countries have shown interest in this battle tank. The newly signed agreement reflects the mutual commitment of Hyundai Rotem and Rafael to deliver next-generation active protection capabilities tailored for Korean land forces, while also pursuing co-development, local production, and export opportunities. This milestone marks a powerful alignment of Rafael’s unmatched APS experience with Hyundai Rotem’s advanced armored vehicle technologies, ensuring enhanced survivability and operational advantage for modern land warfare.
03 Sep 25. MBDA Delivers First CAMM Missiles and Launchers to Poland for PILICA+. First deliveries in significant multi-bn pound contract between MBDA and the Armaments Agency MBDA has delivered its first CAMM missiles and PILICA+ series production launchers to Poland for use in the PILICA+ short-range air defence system. The launchers are the first major equipment delivery following the contract signature in April 2023 and completion of a joint system integration programme involving significant cooperation with Polish Industry and particularly PIT-RADWAR.
First PILICA+ Firing Unit
These newly delivered launchers and first batch of CAMM missiles make up the MBDA elements required for the first firing unit for PILICA+ in Poland, along with the Zenit C2 and Bystra Radar elements from PIT-RADWAR. Now that the launchers are in Poland, WZU will complete camouflage painting (Polish camouflage schemes for the Launchers have also been assessed by WZU utilising an early integration PILICA+ launcher in mid-2024), integration onto Jelcz Polish vehicles, and installation of Polish Network radios ahead of delivery to the Polish Armed Forces.
MBDA, jointly with Polish industry, will then start an intensive training programme with the Polish Air Defence regiments in readiness for operational deployment.

One of the largest European air defence programmes
PILICA+ is one of the largest European short-range air defence acquisition programmes in NATO. The delivered launchers, and Common Anti-air Modular Missiles (CAMMs), will integrate into the PGZ designed system, commanded by a Polish command and control system and guided by Polish radars. A critical capability programme for Poland, PILICA+ is strengthening the countries air defence capabilities and providing a strong eastern flank for NATO. The system will operate as the inner tier of a highly capable and integrated Polish air defence network that also includes the upper-tier WISLA system and mid-tier NAREW system, for which MBDA and PGZ will also be providing launchers and missiles as part of an unprecedented programme of technology and knowledge transfer. As South Korea and Poland deepen their security ties, Hanwha Aerospace and Polish defense company WB Group have struck a landmark deal to create a joint venture that will localize production of guided missiles for the Chunmoo rocket system. The deal, signed on the opening day of the International Defense Industry Exhibition, known as MSPO, in Kielce, 180 kilometers south of Warsaw, on Tuesday, creates a company owned 51 percent by Hanwha and 49 percent by WB Group. The company will produce CGR-080 precision rockets, which have a range of roughly 80 kilometers, for the Polish Army’s Homar-K multiple launch rocket systems, Poland’s version of the Chunmoo system. Officials described the arrangement as a watershed moment for Poland’s defense industry. Under the agreement, a new factory will gradually take over production through a phased technology transfer, supported by a quality assurance system and structured workforce training. Serial production is expected to be in full swing around the end of 2028. Hanwha Aerospace’s first joint venture in Poland marks part of the South Korean arms-maker’s broader strategy to diversify its weapons portfolio and expand trade ties across Europe.
“This is arguably the most important event of this year’s MSPO,” Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz said at the signing ceremony. “We are gaining the capability to produce missiles for the Homar-K launcher. It’s a milestone,” he added, highlighting Poland’s improved self-reliance in defense manufacturing.
Son Jae-il, president and chief executive of Hanwha Aerospace, emphasized that the partnership is a long-term commitment. “This joint venture will localize CGR-080 manufacturing, transfer critical know-how and co-develop next-generation munitions with our Polish partners,” he said. “It is a commitment of investment, people and technology in Poland, for a safer Europe.”
In July 2022, Hanwha Aerospace signed a framework agreement with the state-run Polish Armament Agency to supply 672 K9 self-propelled howitzers and 288 Chunmoo multiple-launch rocket systems. This was followed by a first executive contract in August 2022 for 212 K9 howitzers and another in November 2022 for 218 Chunmoo launchers. A second executive contract, involving the supply of 72 Chunmoo launchers, was signed in April 2024. Industry analysts estimate that the combined value of Poland’s Chunmoo contracts is in the range of $5.2 bn, including missiles and support systems, though only part of that figure has been officially confirmed. Tuesday’s announcement at MSPO follows a string of major defense procurement deals with South Korea in recent years, including acquisitions of K2 tanks, K9 self-propelled howitzers and Chunmoo rocket launchers. Founded in 1977, Hanwha Aerospace is a global aerospace and defense company offering a broad portfolio of world-class products and services. These include land combat vehicles such as the K9 Self-Propelled Howitzer, Redback Infantry Fighting Vehicle and K239 Chunmoo Multiple Rocket Launcher System. WB Group is a Polish-based defense and technology company that specializes in advanced electronics, communications systems and uncrewed platforms. Founded in the 1990s, it has grown into one of Central Europe’s most prominent private defense firms, supplying both the Polish Armed Forces and international clients. 29 Aug 25. Turkey’s $1.5bn Steel Dome hub envisioned as Europe’s largest air defense facility. A newly announced $1.5bn facility, dubbed the “single largest defense industry investment” in Turkey’s history, is expected to double the production capacity for components of Ankara’s envisioned Steel Dome national air defense system, according to officials at Aselsan, the electronics giant leading the project. Reporters toured the in-development facility on Thursday, a day after President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan participated in a ceremony here for the announcement of the facility and the delivery of some platforms to the military.
“This will also be the largest integrated air defense facility in Europe,” Erdoğan said. “As Aselsan serves as the heart of our defense ecosystem, this step represents a critical threshold for the entire sector.”
The facility, the Ogulbey Technology Base, is expected to become operational in one and a half years, company officials said.
But well before that, Aselsan said it’s working to introduce Steel Dome components. During the tour, reporters saw 47 vehicle-based platforms set for delivery to the Turkish armed forces and all carrying Steel Dome-related tech with accompanying radars. Missile and air defense systems to be delivered include long-range SIPER, medium-range HISAR, and very short-range KORKUT. ALP air surveillance and radars and PUHU communication and electronic warfare systems. Inside the facility, which appeared similar to a very large warehouse, technicians were already at work in smaller individual sections, walled off but with windows. Small computer chips and Steel Dome defense models were displayed along the hallways. In the outdoor section of the facility, a large sign marking 50 years since the founding of Aselsan hung above other full-sized Steel Dome systems. (Steel Dome, like Israel’s air defense system that includes its famed Iron Dome and like the envisioned American Golden Dome, is expected to be made up of several overlapping air defense, warning and communication systems.) Breaking Defense, like other outlets, accepted travel and accommodation arranged by the Turkish government for the trip. Earlier this year, Aselsan received a $616m investment from the Turkish Ministry of Industry and Technology to build out new facilities for the Steel Dome concept, but Aselsan CEO Ahmet Akyol said the company will get “additional incentives for this investment, totaling $1.5 bn. Akyol assured that Steel Dome components are NATO-compatible.
“Turkey is the one of the key players in NATO. We have tested [and] delivered systems in NATO links and also national [Turkish] links, it is both possible,” he said.
In a July interview, Akyol told Breaking Defense that currently Steel Dome is Aselsan’s main “vision with the [Turkish] government,” but that doesn’t mean the firm has taken its eye off potential overseas exports of the defense tech.
“Separately some parts are exported, but as a concept, I think we need to have assessments with the countries, because of the territorial and geographical reasons countries can have different approach,” he said. “Some of them have maritime problems. Some of them have territorial problems. So it could be tailor-made solution for Steel Dome.”
Akyol said there was interest in Steel Dome “from the Gulf states and also Eastern Europe.”
