04 Sep 25. Galvion unveils BATLCHRG™ UX unmanned platform wireless charging system at DSEI 2025. Galvion, a global leader in the design and manufacture of innovative head systems, power and data management solutions, and integrated soldier systems, is expanding its BATLCHRG™ wireless charging capability with the introduction of BATLCHRG™ UX at DSEI 2025. This next-generation solution redefines how power can be delivered to unmanned systems operating in remote and high threat environments across land, air and maritime environments. Galvion will be exhibiting BATLCHRG UX, along with their wider systems and solutions, at DSEI 2025 in booth N2-420. BATLCHRG UX is a portable wireless charging system that provides autonomous recharging for unmanned robotic platforms through magnetic resonance technology. Designed for ground/in-field placement, customized electronics and receivers on the unmanned system enable power transfer when the UxS lands on the base power transmission unit, eliminating tethered charging or return-to-base delays. Wide surface charging area removes any requirement for precise alignment. Engineered for agility and resilience in the most austere and contested tactical environments, the system delivers power through obstacles such as snow, ice, water and soil, and can be tactically deployed beneath debris to support covert operations. Compatible with multiple power sources, including solar, batteries and solid fuel cells, the system can be operated remotely via tactical radio or satellite. When deployed as a series of tactical recharging nodes, BATLCHRG UX allows unmanned systems to transit between operating areas without the need to return to the operator for re-charging. Dislocating the UxS from operator location significantly reduces human exposure to battlefield threats, enhances logistic efficiency and drives extended platform endurance for robotic systems.
Galvion originally demonstrated its BATLCHRG wireless charging concept at SOF Week in May 2024 in a vehicle-mounted operation scenario, with power transmission base in a vehicle seat and receiver integrated in soldier-worn vest. The set-up demonstrated that soldiers could charge multiple battery powered systems through the wireless power transfer system. Like BATLCHRG UX, this robust wireless solution has excellent power transfer rates and efficiency, a broad position tolerance to account for movement and misalignment of surfaces, and functionality even in the harshest environments. The manned wireless charging capability is known as BATLCHRG MX.

08 Sep 25. Colombia’s new rifle prototype gets upgrades. Colombian state-owned company Indumil unveiled a new prototype of what could become the first rifle completely designed and developed in the country, according to a new image obtained by Janes.. Since last May, when the first images of the new rifle were leaked, improvements have been introduced, which can be observed in the new prototype, based on a new image obtained by Janes. The new weapon will replace rifles currently in use by the Colombian armed forces, such as the IWI/Indumil Galil AR; the ACE series (22, 21, and 23); and the Tavor-21, all chambered in 5.56×45 mm. Among the improvements, the redesign of the rearsight stands out. It appears to be removable, facilitating replacements or upgrades. Likewise, its AR-15-style grip also appears to be detachable, suggesting improvements in modularity and ergonomics. On the other hand, the casing deflector is noticeably larger, improving operational tolerance. A reduction in the number of screws optimises rifle assembly and maintenance. An adjustable gas block has been introduced, allowing use even with suppressors, increasing tactical versatility and demonstrating improved ergonomics with a design adapted to different operational scenarios. 05 Sep 25. Putin urges Russia’s aerospace industry to develop rocket engines. President Vladimir Putin urged aerospace industry leaders on Friday to press on with efforts to develop booster rocket engines for space launch vehicles and build on Russia’s longstanding reputation as a leader in space technology. Putin, who has spent the past week in China and the Russian far eastern port of Vladivostok, flew to the southern Russian city of Samara, where he met industry specialists and toured the Kuznetsov design bureau aircraft engine manufacturing plant. 05 Sep 25. NP Aerospace launches new specialist women’s body armour range. NP Aerospace, a global armour manufacturer and vehicle integrator, has launched a new specialist women’s body armour range, at DSEI 2025. Designed and manufactured in UK, this new product has been approached from the ground up to meet the distinct needs of women operating in high-risk environments. At the same time, NP Aerospace announced the placement of an order for their new product by a currently undisclosed customer, for 2000 sets in a range of women-specific sizes. The product will be on display at NP’s booth N2-410, at DSEI 9-12 September 2025. Up until now, women across the defence and security environments, globally, have had to wear body armour that has been designed and validated for men. The resultant poor fit can compromise the protection offered and can be extremely uncomfortable for many women. For some time, NP Aerospace has been investing in an internal R&D project to assess the size and complexity of this challenge, to develop solutions to address the anatomical and operational needs of servicewomen and others in need of such protection. The outcome of this programme is an optimised curved hard armour plate, that comes in a range of sizes and delivers an increase in both protection and comfort. Development and testing have confirmed that placing a curved plate in a standard men’s sized and configured carrier is not sufficient. The ‘system’ requires an integrated solution with a curved hard armour plate and a women’s specific soft armour insert, all worn within a women’s specific carrier – developed with NP’s partner, Logistik Unicorp. NP’s new product comes in a range of sizes with varying curvature and coverage. This ensures vital organs remain protected from all possible angles, irrespective of body shape. Being ‘comfortable’ also vastly increases effectiveness and endurance when worn for extended periods and in high stress scenarios.
James Kempston, CEO of NP Aerospace, commented: “feedback from women in combat and on security related duties has clearly identified a growing need for specially designed armour that enhances survivability, reduces injury and improves endurance. 05 Sep 25. Rejection to renewal: Hanwha seek to fill gaps in UK and Europe. After the British Army rejected K9 for RCH last year, Hanwha detailed their strategy for the UK and Europe going into DSEI. The leading defence exhibition in the UK – DSEI – will commence next week and the gathering will present an opportunity for Hanwha Aerospace UK to make a comeback in the nation’s defence market after the Ministry of Defence (MoD) selected Germany’s Remote Controlled Howitzer 155 over its K9 Thunder last year. Simon Humphrey, vice president for strategy and business development, laid out Hanwha’s objectives as the company look to supply and, crucially, partner with the UK government.
“The way we are approaching our European campaign and the campaign in the UK is to be [adding] to existing defence ecosystems,” he said in a media briefing on 4 September 2025 while pondering:
“Where are the gaps? What do we [Hanwha] have quickly available off the shelf that we could bring to that requirement?”
British Army transition
In May, the minister for defence procurement and industry, Maria Eagle, published decommissioning dates for armoured fighting vehicles in a parliamentary written statement. Humphrey considered Warrior’s out of service date, and whether Hanwha’s Redback IFV, which he assured is a mature capability, with Australia waiting on 129 units to arrive from 2027, could be something that would fit that requirement. In addition, these legacy AFVs only scratch the surface of decommissioning British Army platforms. There are thousands more light and medium utility vehicles due to be replaced through the Land Mobility Programme (LMP), for which invitations to tender are expected to be issued in November 2025. But Humphrey echoed Hanwha’s stance that they are looking to add to existing infrastructure to fill the gaps. To this end, Humphrey continued, “we’ve spent some time looking at [LMP], but it doesn’t naturally play to [the] areas where we are strongest.
“There are others existing in the marketplace who are well placed to service that need… We’re not at the moment aggressively following it, and we’ll watch it with interest.”
Gaps in Europe
The Russia-Ukraine conflict demonstrates the prevalence of conventional artillery. According to data from the leading intelligence consultancy, GlobalData, Europe is projected to dominate the sector with a 43% share of the global artillery system market, currently valued at $11.3bn this year. In this backdrop, Hanwha is eager to expand its tracked K9 self-propelled howitzer. Currently, the K9 User Club consists of five Nato member countries among seven customers. “If you go up to… Norway, Finland who are operating K9, their experience of bringing that into service [and] ongoing support from Hanwha in service is wholly positive,” Humphrey insisted. Next week, at DSEI, Hanwha will present a scale model of the K9 A1 and A2 but also, for the first time, a wheeled 52 calibre artillery gun that is currently in development. This wheeled variant comes after the UK selected RCH, which sits atop a wheeled Boxer IFV. Another coveted capability in Europe is the ability to inflict a deep strike effect. Long considered an escalatory move that would provoke the Russian leader Vladimir Putin, the United States refrained from handing Ukraine long-range weapons systems. Ukrainian industry have resorted to building their own: in the last several weeks there have widespread reports about the FP-5 Flamingo cruise missile. Similarly, Hanwha seek to fill this gap in European arsenals with the K239 Chunmoo rocket artillery system, now rebranded ‘Deep Strike’, added Humphrey. Furthermore, Hanwha are looking to extend the range of this weapon system, currently between 80 to 150 kilometres (km), to 500km.
Energetics in the UK
In the last 50 days, the UK confirmed it has sent 60,000 artillery shells, rockets, and missiles to Ukraine’s Armed Forces. But as Ukraine has demonstrated, a reliable supply of munitions is needed to sustain conflict. Hanwha seek to localise manufacturing processes with its customers in this area. Humphrey revealed that despite the British Army’s K9 rejection, the company are looking to produce energetics (reactive materials such as explosives, propellants, pyrotechnics) in the UK. When asked about prospective British manufacturing sites, Humphrey said that Hanwha had entered into early stage discussions with the Department of Business and Trade, floating the idea of using old MoD sites for production.
“Until the UK MoD is able to give clarity to suppliers or potential suppliers about demand then it’s very difficult as a business to be writing a business case. That’s one of the things that is holding us and others back at the moment,” he concluded. (Source: army-technology.com)
