07 Jul 16. FNSS wins contract to supply anti-tank vehicles to Turkish Land Forces. FNSS Savunma Sistemleri has secured a contract to supply anti-tank vehicles for the Turkish Land Forces. An agreement to this effect was signed between the company and the Turkish Ministry of Defence. The contract requires the company to supply 260 tracked and wheeled anti-tank vehicles. The tracked vehicles will be developed based on FNSS’s Kaplan vehicle platform, while the wheeled variant will be based on the PARS 4×4. Both versions will feature anti-tank guided missile system turrets with modern fire and command-control capabilities, FNSS said in a statement. In addition to ready-to-fire missiles, each turret will be equipped with a 7.62mm machine-gun. The vehicles will be produced and delivered over a period of two years, upon completion of design, development and prototype qualification processes in 2018.
They will offer ballistic and mine protection, and be capable of conducting joint operations with armoured units. The vehicles’ modular mechanical and electronic infrastructure will allow it to adapt to future requirements. A joint venture between Nurol Holding and BAE Systems, FNSS has produced more than 2,700 tracked armoured combat vehicles in more than 20 different configurations under several domestic and export contracts. The company’s vehicles are currently in service with armed forces worldwide. (Source: army-technology.com)
06 Jul 16. Saudi Arabia to receive French armoured vehicles ordered for Lebanon. Saudi Arabia is set to receive 200 armoured vehicles that it ordered from France for the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF).
Emmanuel Levacher, the director-general of Renault Trucks Defence, told the French parliament’s defence commission on 27 January that his company had just signed a contract to deliver 100 VAB Mk3 6×6 armoured personnel carriers and 100 Sherpa Light tactical vehicles to Lebanon.
The order was part of a USD3bn package of French defence equipment that Saudi Arabia pledged in 2013 to provide to the LAF.
However, Riyadh announced in February it was suspending the USD3bn grant, as well as the unspent part of another USD1bn it pledged for the Lebanese security forces in August 2014. It cited the Lebanese government’s refusal to condemn the 2 January attack on the Saudi embassy in Tehran as the reason.
Saudi Arabia was obliged to honour the contract that had already been awarded to Renault Trucks Defence. According to a Lebanese political source familiar with the Saudi-French arrangement, Riyadh initially planned to transfer the vehicles to its ally Egypt, but encountered unspecified complications with securing the necessary export licence for Cairo, and decided to take the vehicles itself.
During the Eurosatory show held in Paris in June, Nexter revealed it had an order to supply ARX25 weapon stations for 100 VAB Mk3 APCs ordered by a Middle Eastern country it declined to identify. It said the initial deliveries are scheduled for 2018. The ARX25 is fitted with a stabilised 25mm M811 dual-feed autocannon and a coaxial 7.62mm machine gun. (Source: IHS Jane’s)
