07 Aug 25. BAE Systems invests in AMPV with new capability kits. Details regarding industry collaborations and specific features of the capability kits will be disclosed later. The planned capability kits will feature integrated effectors capable of executing tasks such as countering uncrewed aerial systems, enabling ground autonomy, and operating uncrewed turrets. BAE said that these enhancements are designed to maintain the AMPV’s high survivability standards and enhance the vehicle’s operational capabilities through quick upgrades for military use. Details regarding industry collaborations and the specific features of the capability kits are expected to be disclosed by BAE Systems later in the year.

Over the past two years, BAE Systems has dedicated resources to similar integration projects, successfully installing and demonstrating five distinct turreted AMPV prototypes. These include a Modular Turreted Mortar and 30mm uncrewed weapon systems. The company employed a Modular Open Systems approach, fostering collaboration to improve the platform’s performance.
“We have a lot of work ahead of us for what we’ve set out to do this year, but just like a formation operating on the battlefield, collaboration fuels success. This might not be a traditional approach to innovating for warfighters, but the AMPV isn’t your average combat vehicle either,” Sheehy added.

06 Aug 25. Kenya boosts armoured vehicle fleet with Springbuck and M1117 APCs. Kenya’s inventory of armoured vehicles continues to grow, with the country recently taking into service new DCD Springbuck armoured personnel carriers (APCs) from South Africa and second hand M1117 armoured security vehicles from the United States. In early February this year, a large convoy was seen transporting Springbuck armoured vehicles to the capital Nairobi ahead of formal commissioning on 6 March by the Ministry of Interior. The vehicles were commissioned by Interior Cabinet Secretary Onesimus Kipchumba Murkomen at the General Service Unit (GSU) Headquarters in Ruaraka. At least half a dozen Springbucks were seen at the ceremony. Murkomen said the vehicles were part of the government’s modernisation agenda that has seen a major drop in criminal activity, particularly in the norther parts of the country, with banditry dropping by 70%. The new vehicles will be deployed to address cattle rustling, banditry, and terrorism. The vehicles acquired are Springbuck Standard Duty (SD) models. The 4×4 SD has B6 ballistic protection (up to 7.62×51 mm rounds) and can withstand a TM57 landmine directly under the hull, or two under any wheel. The SD is the lightest in the series and weighs 9 000 kg and has a 1 500 kg payload. It is powered by the MWM 6.10T 6.45 litre six cylinder turbocharged diesel delivering 194 hp. The Springbuck HD is powered by an MWM 6.12TCA 7.2 litre six cylinder turbocharged diesel engine delivering 286 horsepower and giving a maximum speed of 110 km/h and range of 600 km. The 13 000 kg vehicle has a payload of 2 500 kg and B7 ballistic protection (up to 30.06 armour piercing rounds).
Kenya’s military has been operating the Springbuck for at least five years, with several surviving improvised explosive device (IED) hits in operations along the border with Somalia. In 2019, DCD said it was manufacturing a new batch of Springbuck SD (Standard Duty) and HD (Heavy Duty) vehicles for East and West African customers, but provided no further details. Official Kenyan confirmation of Springbuck operation came in March 2024 when the Ministry of Interior commissioned equipment for an internal security operation, including eight Springbuck APCs. Also this year, the first M1117 Guardian APCS being provided by the United States were spotted driving on Kenyan roads, with videos emerging in June of at least half a dozen driving in convoys. In mid-2024, the US revealed plans to transfer eight UH-1 ‘Huey’ and eight MD500 helicopters to Kenya along with roughly 150 M1117 armoured vehicles to improve regional security following a historic visit by Kenyan President William Ruto to the United States. Equipment deliveries were due between late 2024 and mid-2025 to bolster Kenya’s ability to provide regional peace and security and participate in peacekeeping missions.
The M1117 vehicles are from US Excess Defence Article stocks. The Massachusetts National Guard, through the State Partnership Programme (SPP), is helping Kenya with M1117 refurbishment and training. This is a collaboration between the Kenya Army Corps of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering (KACEME) and the Massachusetts National Guard. A team of maintenance experts from the Massachusetts National Guard exchanged best practices on the M1117 with members of the KACEME at the Kahawa Barracks in Kenya in late May this year. “For the Kenya Defence Forces, the refurbished vehicles will serve as a critical component of their mounted infantry operations. For the Massachusetts National Guard, the mission enhanced their innovation and critical thinking skills, finding creative solutions to resource constraints while adapting to a work environment different from the maintenance US facilities they are familiar with,” the Massachusetts National Guard said in June. In noted the Kenya Defence Forces acquired 144 M1117s from the US last year. “Massachusetts National Guard soldiers previously operated and maintained the vehicle during military police operations and agreed to partner with Kenya to refurbish the newly acquired fleet. Once restored, the vehicles are expected to be deployed to the Kenya-Somalia border for counterterrorism operations alongside US forces.”
“In November 2024, the Massachusetts National Guard team conducted an initial two-week site visit to perform inventory checks, inspections and fault assessments. During their return in May, they addressed the identified capability gaps and supported advanced maintenance operations, such as weapons configuration, boresighting, depth recovery setup, and removal of power packs and turrets. The team also helped KDF take measurements to begin fabricating tools for turret stands, powerpack stands and lifting brackets,” the National Guard said.
The M1117 armoured security vehicle (ASV), also known as the Guardian, was developed by Textron Marine & Land Systems’ (TM&L) Cadillac Gage. It was first introduced into the US Army’s Military Police inventory in 1999, with several thousand subsequently manufactured for the US. Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom were the two major missions in which the vehicle was involved as mission essential equipment. The infantry carrier vehicle can accommodate two crew and eight passengers. The M1117 comes with a 40mm MK-19 grenade launcher and a 12.7mm machine gun. It is protected against anti-tank mines and ballistic threats. The M1117 is powered by a 260hp Cummins 6CTA8.3 diesel engine coupled with an Allison MD3560 six-speed transmission, giving a top speed of over 100 km/h. In July last year, Kenya received the first two of the eight UH-1 helicopters pledged. Besides increasing Kenya’s capacity to provide regional peacekeeping support and participate in security operations, the helicopters will be used in air assaults, to deploy and evacuate troops, and deliver supplies. Since 2020, the US has allocated $230m in civilian security and defence sector funding to Kenya, including ongoing advisory and training assistance from the Massachusetts National Guard that benefits Kenyan pilots, logistics personnel and the KDF’s Disaster Response Battalion.
Last year the US designated Kenya a key non-NATO ally, but that status is now in jeopardy. On 1 August, US Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Jim Risch introduced a suite of legislative amendments, including a call for review of Kenya’s designation as a major non-NATO ally. Under the amendment, the US President must submit a report to Congress evaluating whether Kenya’s policies remain aligned with US national security goals. This assessment is expected to scrutinise not only Kenya’s bilateral military cooperation with the United States but also its growing entanglements with China and Russia. 29 Jul 25. Visitors to the FNSS stand had the opportunity to see the PARS SCOUT 8×8 CBRN Reconnaissance Vehicle, which was exhibited for the first time at IDEF 2025. Developed within the scope of Special Purpose Tactical Wheeled Armoured Vehicles Project signed with the Presidency of Defense Industries (SSB) in line with the needs of the Turkish Armed Forces, deliveries of the PARS SCOUT 6×6 and 8×8 vehicles have started. PARS SCOUT 8×8 vehicles are the first-ever 8×8 armoured combat vehicles to serve in the Turkish Armed Forces. The PARS SCOUT 8×8 CBRN Reconnaissance Vehicle being delivered in scope of this Project has stand-off detection capability, radiation detection capability and the capability to detect and identify Chemical Warfare Agents (CWAs), Toxic Industrial Materials (TIMs) and Biological Warfare Agents (BWAs). The CBRN collective protection system fitted, provides over pressure and an assisted breathing face mask system to the vehicle. The collective protection system is designed in accordance with the NATO standard AEP-54. The vehicle is fitted with a remote-controlled stabilised weapon system on which a 40mm automatic grenade launcher and 12.7mm or 7.62mm machine gun can be fitted in accordance with user requirements. PARS SCOUT 8×8 CBRN Reconnaissance Vehicle has been designed for a CBRN Reconnaissance team of 6 personnel comprising driver, team / vehicle commander and two CBRN operators. An additional crew seat has been included within the vehicle to improve operational capability and crew flexibility, particularly when taking and handling Chemical and Biological samples for further analysis.
Chemical Detection and Identification: PARS SCOUT 8×8 CBRN Reconnaissance Vehicle is fitted with chemical detection units to monitor continuously for the presence of Chemical Warfare Agents and Toxic Industrial Materials both outside and inside of the vehicle and detection and classification of solid or liquid samples. The vehicle is equipped with a Stand-Off Detector which uses laser technology and can detect up to a distance of 5km. Furthermore, a gas chromatograph and mass spectrometer (GC/MS) device for further detailed chemical analysis of a range of samples is integrated into the vehicle.
Biological Detection and Identification: The PARS SCOUT 8×8 CBRN Reconnaissance Vehicle is capable of continuous Biological Agent Detection. If a potential biological agent is detected, a secondary sample is taken for further analysis that is carried out within the fully integrated glove box designed to provide operator safety. Due to the integrated design of the glove box, a variety of ground samples can be taken to the glove box via the sample handling mechanism for further analysis and identification.
Radiological and Nuclear Detection: Gamma radiation detectors are integrated to the outside of the vehicle in order to alert the crew to the direction and level of the radiation hazard. Vehicle is fitted with an internal radiation detection device and individual crew dosimeters for personnel protection and dose rate monitoring.
Manual Sampling and Contaminated Area Marking: The integrated area marking system of the vehicle allows the operator to mark any contaminated area identified without having to leave the vehicle. The NATO standard ground marking flags are placed from within the vehicle using the interlocking delivery system which maintains vehicle over pressure and crew safety at all times. The PARS SCOUT 8X8 CBRN Reconnaissance Vehicle incorporates the Double Wheel Sampling System which provides a continuous detection and identification capability whilst on the move.
The Central Processing Unit and CBRN Software: The information gathered via the CBRN detection devices, when incorporated with the data received from the integrated meteorological device and GPS, can be transmitted using the on-board communication system, in accordance with ATP 45 format.
PARS İZCİ 8×8: The PARS SCOUT [İZCİ] 8×8 tactical wheeled armoured combat vehicle platform, is designed to be used in low and high intensity scenarios, offering strategic advantages to the user thanks to its unique features, and incorporate the most advanced technologies. PARS SCOUT 8×8 has a power-to-weight ratio of 20hp/ton (includes payload), and reaches a maximum road speed of up to 100 km/h and is capable of manoeuvring on 60% vertical and a 30% side slope, climbing 0.7 metres high obstacles and crossing the 2 metre trenches.
Thanks to the engine layout and its balanced design, the vehicle’s axle loads are almost equal. This design approach provides the vehicle with the ability to move comfortably even on loose and rough terrain while also providing maximum control at high-speed and short braking distances. The central tire inflation system (CTIS) allows the driver to adjust tire pressure to suit different terrains.
Under favour of hydro-pneumatic suspension system, the vehicle has the best road holding and ride height for different road conditions. PARS SCOUT 8×8’s turning radius and the tire wear are minimised thanks to AWS (All Wheel Steering) System. PARS SCOUT 8×8 has a range of over 800 km, and it has under-armour protected fuel tanks. The vehicle is fitted with run-flat tires and with a self-recovery winch.
The driver compartment at the front of the vehicle is protected by ballistic glass, and provides a wide horizontal field of view, high driving safety, situational awareness and comfort. In addition, the glasses are adapted to winter conditions by heating system equipment. The large ballistic windscreen, and the day/night cameras located at the front and rear give the driver and commander a wide field of view. Inside the vehicle doors and hatches, personnel seats and lighting elements are designed to provide comfort to personnel.
The PARS SCOUT 8×8 hull can be brought to the level of protection required thanks to its modular-designed armour system. The hull shape, underbelly structure, bottom plates and specially developed mine-resistant seats are designed to protect personnel against high-level mine threats. The modular connection of the vehicle subsystems to its mine-resistant hull ensures ease of maintenance and quick replacement, which makes it superior to its counterparts. PARS SCOUT 8×8 is designed in accordance with the integration of Manned or Remote-Controlled Towers and Missile Systems, according to vehicle usage needs. PARS SCOUT 8×8 Vehicle, which has a high locality rate, has domestic gearboxes designed and developed by FNSS with its own resources. 04 Aug 25. Bundeswehr requests delivery of over 1,000 logistic vehicles from Rheinmetall – order worth around €770m. The Bundeswehr has commissioned Rheinmetall to supply more than 1,000 logistic vehicles with a total value of around €770m gross. The order comprises 963 vehicles with swap-body systems, some with protected driver cabins, as well as swap-body flatbeds and tarpaulin-arch superstructures. In addition, 425 unprotected transport vehicles (UTV) were requested for delivery. The UTVs are available in 4×4 and 8×8 versions.
“As a reliable partner of the Bundeswehr, we are delighted to be delivering additional vehicles and thus contributing to the mobility and operational readiness of the armed forces”, says André Barthel, Chairman of the Board of Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles GmbH (RMMV).
The delivery of the approximately 1,400 requested vehicles will take place before the end of this year. The orders have been booked for the third quarter of 2025. The UTVs are c signed in July 2024 – the largest order in the company’s history in the field of logistics vehicles. It provides for the delivery of up to 6,500 vehicles with a gross value of up to €3.5bn. The framework contract allows the Bundeswehr to flexibly order additional quantities of the UTV 5t and UTV 15t models, which are already in service, over a period of seven years. In addition, the new vehicle class, which is now part of the call-off, was introduced via the framework contract. This is the 4×4 variant UTV 3.5 t, which has a maximum number of common parts with the UTV family. The UTV family has already been contributing significantly to the performance of the Bundeswehr’s logistics units for several years. In July 2017, the Bundeswehr commissioned RMMV to supply its new ‘UTV mil gl in cargo load classes 5t and 15t’ family. Thanks to the use of flexible framework contracts concerning large quantities in military procurement, the UTVs have become a showcase project. Since 2017, around 7,000 HX vehicles have been delivered to the Bundeswehr together with swap-bodies and 70-tonne semi-trailer units. UTV and swap-body systems are based on RMMV’s robust HX vehicle family. Designed for military use, they offer outstanding mobility even in difficult terrain.

01 Aug 25. Poland doubles down on South Korean tanks with $6.5bn deal. In a bid to expand the tracked vehicle fleet of the country’s land forces, the Polish Ministry of National Defence has ordered 180 K2 Black Panther tanks with 81 accompanying vehicles from South Korea’s Hyundai Rotem. The deal is worth around $6.5 bn. The contract was signed today in Gliwice, Poland, in the presence of Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, the nation’s Deputy Prime Minister and National Defence Minister, and South Korean Defense Minister Ahn Gyu-back who is on an official visit to Poland. Under the plan, the tanks are to be supplied to the Polish Armed Forces between 2026 and 2030. Of these, 116 tanks will be produced in the K2GF variant which is manufactured in South Korea, and 64 vehicles will be procured in the K2PL variant, the Polish ministry said in a statement. After the first three K2PL units are made at a South Korean plant, Poland’s defense industry will take over manufacturing activities for the remaining 61 tanks of this version. Bumar-Łabędy, a subsidiary of the state-owned PGZ group, will handle their production.
“The new units will be better equipped than the existing ones, and production will be launched next year. In the years 2028 to 2030, we plan to have full-scale domestic production,” Kosiniak-Kamysz said during the signing ceremony.
The latest development marks Poland’s second executive deal for the purchase of K2 tanks. In 2022, the country ordered the first batch of 180 tracked vehicles. Under the framework contract, Warsaw can acquire up to 1,000 K2s which could make it the main tank used by the nation’s land forces. The tank deal comes following heated negotiations between Warsaw and Seoul on the financial terms of the contracted South Korean weapon deliveries secured by the previous Polish government.
In addition to the K2 framework agreement, the centrist cabinet of Prime Minister Donald Tusk inherited numerous major contracts for the purchase of FA-50 light attack aircraft, K9 howitzers, and Chunmoo launchers. Poland has accelerated efforts to expand its tank fleet in the aftermath of Russia’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine. Looking to benefit from South Korea’s mass production capacities and lenient policy toward technology transfers, Warsaw has moved to acquire South Korean defense equipment at a scale that makes it Seoul’s key client in Europe. 05 Aug 25. Mali receives CS/VP14 armoured vehicles from China. The Malian Armed Forces (FAMA) have taken delivery of a batch of CS/VP14 armoured personnel carriers (APCs) from China’s Norinco, with more apparently on the way. Images shared on social media showed at least half a dozen of the vehicles being offloaded from a ship at the port of Conakry in Guinea on 30 July. Convoys of transporter vehicles in the following days were seen moving the CS/VP14s from Guinea into Mali, arriving in Bamako on 2 August. Multiple trucks were also observed carrying containers, indicating other equipment or spares has also been delivered. Several transporter vehicles carried what appear to be Dongfeng EQ2050 multi-purpose wheeled vehicles, but in smaller numbers than the CS/VP14s. Mali apparently received the first of 36 CS/VP14 APCs late last month, out of an order for 160. Several of the armoured personnel carriers were seen with anti-drone cages, and all appear to be fitted with open-topped gun turrets. The 4×4 CS/VP14 is a relatively new vehicle, entering mass production in late 2023, according to Chinese media. It is able to carry ten soldiers and two crew members. It is STANAG 4569 level 3b certified, which means it can withstand a blast of up to 8 kg of TNT under the hull and 16 kg of TNT under each wheel. It can also protect crews from 7.62 mm armour piercing ammunition. The CS/VP14 is apparently powered by a six cylinder Deutz engine with 331 horsepower, giving a top speed of over 105 km/h. It is also in service with the Kenya Army and Burkina Faso (the latter received at least 40 Norinco VP11, 50 CS/VP14 armoured vehicles, and 17 Caterpillar excavators in June 2024). In September 2024, Mali signed a contract with Norinco to provide unspecified military equipment, training, and a transfer of technology. The agreement was signed by Mali’s Defence Minister Sadio Camara and the head of Norinco in Beijing. It is likely the CS/VP14 delivery is part of that contract. China has supplied equipment to Mali in the past to help its battle against militant groups. Notably, in December 2021 it commissioned at least six Norinco VN2C infantry fighting vehicles along with around 50 Kia KM450 military trucks, Dongfeng EQ2050 multi-purpose wheeled vehicles, a dozen BRDM-2 amphibious scout cars, eight BTR-70 8×8 amphibious armoured personnel carriers, and six Puma M36 APCs. In early 2023, Mali commissioned Norinco VP11 APCs and Lynx CS/VP11 all-terrain vehicles, fitted with 12.7 mm machinegun turrets; IAG Guardian 4×4 armoured personnel carriers, KIA and Toyota utility vehicles, and modernised BRDM-2, BTR-60 and BTR-70 armoured vehicles. A convoy of at least eight VP11 and 25 Lynx CS/VP11 vehicles was seen in Mali ahead of commissioning. The VN2C was unveiled by Norinco in 2016, as an improved variant of the VN2, itself a derivative of the widely used WZ551 armoured personnel carrier (APC). The VN2C features increased protection against improvised explosive devices (IEDs). According to Norinco, the vehicle has a gross vehicle weight of 19 tonnes, a 402 hp diesel engine giving a top speed of 100 km/h, and armour that provides STANAG 4569 Level 3a/3b protection. Mali is known to have been operating the EQ2050 Mengshi vehicles for reconnaissance and troop transport since at least January 2020. They were seen in a military parade then along with Streit Typhoons and Paramount Marauders, although the Marauders were first seen in September 2019 during another parade. It is believed around 19 of the latter were acquired, and 35 Typhoons delivered from the United Arab Emirates. The UAE also donated 30 Streit Cougar APCs to combat Islamist militants in the Sahel. These joined 13 Aarqus Bastions handed over to Mali in January 2020 for its contribution to the Sahel G5 Joint Force. They were transferred by the European Union Training Mission Mali. Around 30 Puma M36 vehicles are believed to have been supplied to Mali via South Africa’s OTT Technologies and apparently funded by Germany. The M36 is an evolutionary development of the proven M26 and weights between 11 and 14 tons depending on the level of protection. Puma M36s have been supplied to Somalia and Burkina Faso, amongst others. Mali now operates a wide and diverse array of armoured vehicles, with many donated by foreign countries to help Mali combat terrorism in the region. The European Union, for example, has supplied other vehicles to Mali, notably 29 refurbished Casspirs, which were handed over in mid-July 2019 by Germany’s ambassador. They were acquired second hand under a German Ministry of Defence project. In December 2018, Mali took delivery of 24 Storm APCs from Qatar. The vehicles, made by Qatar’s Stark Motors, are based on the Toyota Land Cruiser 79 series chassis and were to be used by Mali as well as the other four countries of the G5 Sahel group, which are Burkina Faso, Chad, Mauritania, and Niger. Mali has been bolstering its Air Force as well. In the last five years it has received Mi-8, Mi-17, and Mi-24/35 helicopters from Russia, L-39 Albatros jets, Su-25 ground attack jets, and an An-28 from Russia. From its inception ProTEK seats have been designed around a family of innovative seat frames onto which tested and certified modules can be fitted to create a bespoke solution for the user. These include Blast protection to Stanag 4569 standards, vibration reduction, head and body protection, seat risers and turntables, fore & aft adjustment, and seat back rake along with viable seat dimensions without the need for additional tooling costs.
