11 May 21. Incora announced today at a ribbon-cutting ceremony the opening of its new global headquarters at 2601 Meacham Boulevard in Fort Worth. Fort Worth was previously home to two company offices, which have consolidated into the new, expanded location. Incora’s largest warehouse, by volume, is in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, and some of the company’s largest customers and suppliers are nearby. In addition to these resources and assets, the central U.S. location makes the city of Fort Worth ideal for the new headquarters, offering more product and service availability to global customers, suppliers, and colleagues.
“Our new headquarters is more than a building; it is the commitment that Incora is making to customers, suppliers, employees and community,” said Incora chief executive officer David Coleal. “We are celebrating this important milestone because the new headquarters is a symbol that we are one company and one Incora, bringing together our unique capabilities for our customers and suppliers across the globe.”
Mayor Betsy Price attended the headquarters opening celebration and stated, “We’re delighted to welcome Incora’s expanded presence to Fort Worth and we look forward to the company’s community involvement.”
Brandom Gengelbach, president and chief executive officer of the Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce also attended the event. He noted, “Fort Worth is a dynamic city by nature, fueled by a vibrant business community. The integration creates efficiencies, encourages collaboration, and leverages growth in all regions. Incora’s executive leadership team will be centered in Fort Worth, bringing them together and reinforcing Incora’s collaborative approach.

11 May 21. Naval Group launches third Argentinian offshore patrol vessel. Naval Group has launched the third Gowind-class multi-mission offshore patrol vessel (OPV), ARA Storni, of the Argentinian Navy.
The company is building four OPVs ordered by Argentina as part of a contract signed in 2018.
This contract includes the refurbishment of Naval Group-built OPV L’Adroit and three new-build vessels.
The OPVs are being built in France by Kership, a joint venture between Naval Group and Piriou.
Of the four vessels, ARA Bouchard (former L’Adroit) was delivered in December 2019 and the first of the three new-build vessels ARA Piedrabuena was delivered last month.
Naval Group programme director Jean-Claude Flandrin said: “The programme continues to progress at a very steady pace, with the delivery on time of a vessel every six months, despite the global sanitary situation.
“The delivery of the ARA Storni should take place in October this year, in line with the contract schedule.”
According to the company, ARA Storni offers the same features as that of the ARA Piedrabuena and is better armed compared to ARA Bouchard.
Some of the features of ARA Storni include an active stabilisation system and a bow thruster, the POLARIS system and NiDL tactical data link system.
Naval Group Latin America sales director Olivier Michel said: “We are proud of the trust that the Argentine Navy has placed in Naval Group for the supply of these latest-generation multipurpose vessels that will enable the country to carry out its sovereign missions.
“Their timely delivery despite the sanitary context demonstrates the group’s commitment to its Client.”
The 87m-long vessel has a displacement capacity of 1,650t, an endurance of more than 7,000nm, and a maximum speed of over 20 knots.
It can accommodate 59 crew and passengers and comprises boarding capacity for two 9m light crafts and one 10t class helicopter.

10 May 21. Russian Navy commissions Project 885M submarine Kazan. The Russian Navy (VMF) commissioned the Project 885M (Yasen-M-class) nuclear-powered attack/cruise missile submarine (SSN/SSGN) Kazan in Severodvinsk on 7 May, the Northern Fleet announced on the Ministry of Defence (MoD) website later the same day.
“The Kazan nuclear-powered attack/cruise missile submarine was developed by the Malakhit Design Bureau and has effective strike and electronic weapons that allow it to carry out missions throughout the world’s oceans,” VMF commander-in-chief Admiral Nikolai Yevmenov said during the commissioning ceremony.
Kazan was laid down on 24 July 2009 and launched on 31 March 2017. Factory sea trials of the submarine commenced on 25 September 2018. The Project 885/885M armament suite comprises Oniks and Kalibr missiles, to which the Tsirkon hypersonic weapon could be added in the near future.
Kazan will be assigned to the Northern Fleet, which already operates the basic Project 885 SSN/SSGN Severodvinsk. Laid down at the Sevmash shipyard, a subsidiary of the United Shipbuilding Corporation, and launched on 15 June 2010 and commissioned on 17 July 2014, Severodvinsk is being prepared for trials of the Tsirkon missile starting this year. 10 May 21. Australia hands over second Guardian-class patrol boat to Solomon Islands. Australia has handed over the second and final Guardian-class patrol boat built for the government of the Solomon Islands.
The vessel, which has been named RSIPV Taro (pennant number 06), was formally accepted by the High Commissioner for Solomon Islands, Robert Sisilo, in a ceremony held on 7 May at the facilities of shipbuilder Austal in Henderson, Western Australia. The move follows the handover of the first boat, RSIPV Gizo (05), in November 2019.
Taro is the 10th of the 21 boats of the class being given by Canberra to 12 Pacific Island nations and Timor-Leste as part of Australia’s Pacific Patrol Boat Replacement (also known as Sea 3036) programme.
“The new Guardian-class patrol boats play an important role in tackling our shared regional security challenges and the delivery of RSIPV Taro is a significant milestone,” said Rear Admiral Katherine Richards, Royal Australian Navy’s (RAN’s) head of engineering. “We are better positioned to respond to maritime threats, from illegal fishing to transnational crime, by working together, co-ordinating closely, and building our interoperability,” she added.
The Guardian class has an overall length of 39.5m, a beam of 8m, and can accommodate a crew of 23. It is powered by two Caterpillar 3516C engines and can attain a top speed of 20 kt.
The steel-hulled boats are being built with space and weight considerations for a 30mm naval gun as a primary weapon, as well as port and starboard mounts for 12.7mm general-purpose machine guns. (Source: Jane’s)
10 May 21. Malaysia to resume LCS programme. The Malaysian government approved the resumption of production of Maharaja Lela (Gowind)-class littoral combat ships (LCSs) for the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) on 5 May after having temporarily suspended the project due to issues with the shipbuilder over delays and rising costs. Very little information has emerged but Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said on 7 May that Malaysia’s Boustead Naval Shipyard (BNS) has been given “strict conditions” to ensure the completion of the project, although no details were provided about the conditions. Ismail said the approval was given to safeguard the jobs of 1,600 workers at the shipyard and the viability of 400 local companies involved in the project. The government had mulled cancelling the project in July 2020 as none of the six ships, contracted in 2014 for USD2.2bn, had been completed on schedule. As Janes reported, Malaysia selected a design variant of the Gowind family of corvettes from French shipbuilder Naval Group (then DCNS) for the LCS programme. Although first-of-class Maharaja Lela (pennant number 2501) was launched in August 2017 at BNS’s facility in Lumut, the ship is only about 60% complete. It was originally slated for delivery to the RMN in 2019. Four other ships of the class are at different stages of construction, while the sixth has yet to be laid down due to the lack of space at the yard. In November 2019 Janes reported that the troubled programme was already facing a cost overrun of about MYR1.4bn (USD340m). (Source: Jane’s)

13 May 21. First T-7A Red Hawk Joined in Record Time, Thanks to Digital Design. In one historic moment, the front fuselage of the first Boeing [NYSE: BA]-Saab T-7A Red Hawk advanced trainer was joined perfectly with its aft section in less than 30 minutes — a testament to the digital heritage of the U.S. Air Force’s first “eSeries” aircraft and witness to the benefits of model-based engineering and 3D design.
The digital splice was completed in 95% less time than traditional splices and with substantial quality improvements.
“This moment marks a key stage in the evolution of the T-7A Red Hawk,” said Chuck Dabundo, vice president and program manager of Boeing T-7 programs. “Employing digitally advanced manufacturing and build techniques developed by Boeing over the past two decades, we are bringing this trainer to future pilots sooner than ever before possible and with greater quality.”
The aft fuselage was designed and built by Saab in Linköping, Sweden, under a joint development agreement with Boeing. After making the journey of more than 4,500 miles (7,200 kilometers) to St. Louis, the aft section was lined up perfectly to the forward fuselage by Boeing aircraft mechanics.
The aircraft, which will be used for static test, is the first engineering and manufacturing development test asset to be spliced. It will be followed by five engineering and manufacturing development jets as part of 351 T-7A Red Hawk trainers to be produced for the U.S. Air Force.
“What we’re seeing in this new evolution of digitally designed, engineered and manufactured aircraft is a 50% improvement in overall production quality and as much as a 98% reduction in drilling defects,” said Andrew Stark, Boeing T-7A Red Hawk production director. “It’s a new way of producing airplanes with improved quality throughout the whole journey.”
12 May 21. MHI conducts first test flight of upgraded variant of SH-60K naval helicopter. Japanese company Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) announced on 12 May that it has conducted the first test flight of an upgraded variant of its SH-60K multirole naval helicopter featuring what it described as “improved on-board systems and flying capabilities”.
MHI said in a statement that the helicopter prototype, which was ordered by the Japan Ministry of Defense’s (MoD’s) Acquisition, Technology & Logistics Agency (ATLA), conducted a 30-minute hovering flight that same day from Nagoya Airport, which is adjacent to MHI’s Komaki-Minami plant. Few details were provided about the improvements made to the rotorcraft, with the company only saying that development work on this variant – the designation of which has yet to be confirmed – began in 2015. Delivery of the prototype to ATLA set to take place within the current fiscal year, which ends on 31 March 2022. The new variant is being developed for use by the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF).
The JMSDF currently operates at least 69 SH-60K helicopters, the first of which were delivered to the service in 2002: about a year after the platform’s first flight.
The SH-60K is an improved version of the SH-60J, which is also in JMSDF service, and both rotorcraft are licence-built variants of the Sikorsky-developed SH-60B helicopter. They are used by the JMSDF for anti-submarine-warfare (ASW), anti-ship, and search-and-rescue operations. (Source: Jane’s)
12 May 21. Czech Republic receives additional C295 airlifter. The Czech Republic has received an additional Airbus Defence and Space (DS) C295 airlifter, bringing its total fleet up to five.
The manufacturer announced the delivery from its Seville final assembly line in Spain on 12 May, noting the aircraft is part of an additional order for two that was placed by the Czech Air Force in 2019. The sixth and final aircraft is set to follow in the near-term.
The Czech Ministry of Defence (MoD) procured its first three C295M (Modernised) aircraft from EADS (later to become Airbus DS) via Omnipol in 2009 for CZK3.5bn (USD190m at the time), with a fourth airframe obtained as part of a barter deal involving five surplus Aero Vodochody L?159 training and light attack aircraft. On 15 December 2019, the MoD signed a CZK2.34bn (USD103m) deal for a further two aircraft in the C295W configuration that feature winglets (hence the W in the designation) and other modifications. The four previously received C295M (Modernised) aircraft will be upgraded to the C295W standard of the final two standard, with all six being designated C295MW. The fleet is operated by the 24th Air Transportation Base, located at Kbely. (Source: Jane’s)
