26 Jul 12. US moves to station troops in Poland. The US F-16 fighter jets and C-130 Hercules transport aircraft will be deployed on a rotating basis. The announcement came after discussions between Polish Defence Minister Tomasz Siemoniak and US Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta. (Source: JIWK)

02 Aug 12. WSI Industries, Inc. announced a major expansion to their
Monticello, MN facility due to continued strong demand for their contract manufacturing services and to accommodate for future business growth. The
planned 47,000 square foot expansion will double the existing manufacturing space with construction beginning in August 2012. They anticipate the expansion to be completed and available for utilization near the beginning of the 2013 calendar year. Funding for the expansion will be from available cash and debt. They anticipate that the construction work will have a minimal impact on their current manufacturing processes. (Source: BUSINESS WIRE)

20 Jul 12. US bolsters Gulf missile defence. The United States is setting up an AN/TPY-2 X-radar station at the Al-Ubeid air base in Qatar, according to unnamed US officials cited by the Wall Street Journal on 17 July. The officials said it would work with similar radar in Turkey and Israel to track Iranian ballistic missiles. (Source: Jane’s, JDW)

31 Jul 12. Bell Helicopter, in partnership with Cessna Aircraft Company, opened a new regional service center in Singapore at Seletar Aerospace Park. The new state-of-the-art facility offers customers a one-stop shop for comprehensive repair, completion, fulfillment, maintenance and customization solutions. Bell Helicopter and the Singapore Economic Development Board signed a Memorandum of Understanding in June 2010. On June 9, 2011, Bell Helicopter and Cessna broke ground on the new service center in the Seletar Aerospace Park. The service facility is 160,500 total square feet and equipped with hangars for Bell Helicopter and Cessna products, a paint booth, warehouse, overhaul and maintenance shops, offices, and a 77,000 square foot ramp. Plans for the new facility include training, performing customization and completions, major refurbishment projects, labor and parts sales, as well as maintenance, repair and overhaul. Bell Helicopter and Cessna envision the center as a regional hub for response to customer needs in Asia Pacific.

30 Jul 12. American Science and Engineering, Inc. has expanded its Middle East operations with the opening of a new branch office in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This is AS&E’s second branch office location in the Middle East; the Company also operates a branch office in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. These offices allow AS&E to better serve a rapidly expanding market with best-in-class service and support and a complete range of X-ray detection solutions to combat terrorism, trade fraud and smuggling.

02 Aug 12. Cobham has launched into the Brazilian market by the opening of a new subsidiary in São Paulo. Cobham do Brasil Ltda will provide a basis for Cobham Tactical Communications and Surveillance to develop relationships and a foundation for active engagement with customers and partners in the public and private sectors. The new office enables Cobham to fulfil its commitment to establishing a formal presence in-country and continue to develop its relationships and partnerships with the nation’s Tier 1 and Tier 2 distributors and customers alike. This supports the Brazilian defence strategy for indigenisation of key technologies in the security and defence market. Cobham’s core communications technology can provide market leading capabilities for both tactical and strategic security infrastructures.
