18 Feb 04. The U.K. Junior Defence Minister announced that a new two-star post of Assistant Chief of the Defence Staff (Reserves and Cadets) was being created. Reserve Officers from all three Services will be eligible for consideration for the post, with the first incumbent coming from the Territorial Army. Brigadier The Duke of Westminster KG OBE TD DL is expected to be promoted to Major General in late-March 2004. Comment: The new post “is being created to provide an improved focus for key Reservist issues….”. The Duke of Westminster is currently the Director of Reserve Forces and Cadets at the MoD, a post that will now be held by a Regular Officer who will also act as the Reserve General’s deputy.(Source: DNA DEFENCE NEWS ANALYSIS, Issue 04/09, 23 Feb 04)
