21 Jan 04. Michael W. Hansen has joined DRS Technologies, Inc. as vice president, technology for operations in the company’s corporate office. In this new position, Mr. Hansen will assist the corporate staff with the coordination of company-wide efforts to develop new, high-value technologies by leveraging extensive resources within the company. He also will oversee internal research and development, assist with the development of strategic technical roadmaps for the company and advise on asset management.

19 Jan 04. Dr. Enno Littmann, former Senior Manager Business Development at EADS ISR, has been appointed new General Manager of SOSTAR GmbH. He follows Dr. Eugen Herpfer in this function, who will retire this year. SOSTAR GmbH is a Joint Venture Company between Dutch Space, EADS, Galileo Avionica, Indra, and Thales. It has been founded in 2001 to perform the SOSTAR-X Programme (Stand-Off Surveillance and Target Acquisition Radar Demonstrator) to demonstrate until 2006 an advanced ground surveillance radar with active electronically steered antenna. The SOSTAR programme recently passed the Critical Design Review. The demonstration will be performed on a Fokker 100 testbed aircraft.

20 Jan 04. BAE Systems Mission Solutions, Geotopo, Inc., and the National
Geospatial-Intelligence Agency have implemented a mentor-protégé agreement
approved by the Department of Defense, Office of Small and Disadvantaged Business Utilization. Under the three-year agreement, BAE Systems will provide training to Geotopo to refine their technical capabilities in performing exacting requirements for digital mapping, establish an ISO 9000 quality program, and develop the firm,s general business management practices.

20 Jan 04. James F. Armington will be posted to Tokyo this month as Raytheon Company’s regional executive for the North Asia Region. He has been serving as regional director, Asia Pacific, in Raytheon’s International Business Development office in Washington. As regional executive for the North Asia Region, Armington will lead Raytheon’s business development activities in Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and China and oversee Raytheon’s international field offices in Tokyo, Seoul, Beijing and Taipei.

16 Jan 04. United Defense Industries announced the promotion of Robert Kilpatrick to president and general manager of its Southwest Marine Inc. (SWM) shipyard, a member of the United States Marine Repair (USMR) family of shipyards.

20 Jan 04. Chris Thorneycroft-Smith is the new director of Iveco’s Truck Business Unit. He gets this job as well as his job as director of the firm’s Light Commercial Vehicle Business. This means Thorneycroft-Smith is responsible for Iveco’s full range from 3.2 to 44 tonnes. Well known in the industry, he joined Iveco in 1993 and reports to managing director Giuseppe Franchi. 20 Jan 04. Joe Trench has been named president of the Radar Systems line of business at Lockheed Martin’s site in Syracuse.

19 Jan 04. Lockheed Martin has named Richard F. Ambrose as president for the Maritime Systems & Sensors (MS2) Tactical Systems organization based in Eagan, Minn.
