21 Nov 25. US Army selects bases for Project Janus development. US Army leaders have identified the first nine installations that will serve as prototype development hubs for the service’s Project Janus initiative, designed to power army bases and facilities entirely through nuclear power. The nine service bases, all located in the continental United States (CONUS), represent “optimal locations for initial deployment” for prototype variants of the micro nuclear reactor power plants army leaders are looking to develop under Project Janus, according to a November 2025 service statement. “These sites mark the first step in expanding national energy resilience through next-generation nuclear technology,” army officials said in the statement. The locations selected for prototype development on the micro reactor power plants (MPPs) are Fort Benning in Georgia, Fort Bragg in North Carolina, Fort Campbell located in Kentucky, Fort Drum in New York, Texas-based Fort Hood, Fort Wainwright in Alaska, the Holston Army Ammunition Plant in Tennessee, Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington State, and Alabama-based Redstone Arsenal. Each base was selected after evaluating criteria based on “mission-critical installations, energy requirements and resiliency gaps, power infrastructure, [and] environmental and technical considerations”, service officials said in the November statement. Service officials noted that the prototype development phase for Project Janus may expand into other army bases and facilities as the phase progresses. Raytheon Australia has announced a multi-million-dollar upgrade to its submarine combat system centre of excellence in Western Australia, bolstering the nation’s sovereign industrial capability as the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) prepares for the most significant transformation of its submarine fleet in decades. The investment strengthens Raytheon Australia’s long-standing role as the combat system integrator for the Collins-class submarines, a relationship stretching back more than 25 years. The company supports the fleet primarily from Henderson Shipyard and HMAS Stirling, key defence precincts south of Perth that form the backbone of Australia’s submarine sustainment and operational activity. The upgraded facility includes modernised workspaces designed to improve flexibility and teamwork, enhanced customer support areas, and new virtual collaboration environments to streamline engagement with Defence and industry partners. Raytheon says the improvements will support both ongoing Collins-class sustainment and the development of future submarine combat system requirements as Australia moves to a multi-class fleet under the AUKUS partnership.
Raytheon Australia managing director Ohad Katz said the expansion underscored the company’s commitment to maintaining and growing a highly skilled sovereign workforce, “This significant upgrade demonstrates our commitment to investing in the capability and capacity of our workforce as Australia’s sovereign submarine combat system manager.”
Mr Katz added, “It will provide our 150-strong submarine combat system team with a facility purpose-built to enhance collaboration with the RAN and our industry partners.”
Western Australia’s Defence Industries Minister Paul Papalia welcomed the announcement, highlighting its economic and strategic significance to the state, “I want to thank Raytheon Australia for its significant investment in Western Australia, the nation’s home of AUKUS.” The announcement follows the Commonwealth Government’s recent decision to award Raytheon Australia a AU$277 m, five-year contract to continue managing the combat management system for the Collins-class fleet, a deal that secures around 150 jobs nationally. 17 Nov 25. US Navy commissions final Independence-variant LCS USS Pierre. LCS are surface vessels designed to operate in both near-shore and open-ocean environments to address modern coastal threats. The US Navy has commissioned the USS Pierre (LCS 38), its 19th and final Independence-variant littoral combat ship (LCS), on 15 November in Panama City, Florida. John Phelan, Secretary of the US Navy, served as the principal speaker at the commissioning ceremony. The US Navy accepted Pierre in July 2025, after the ship successfully completed its acceptance trials. Pierre is the second vessel in US Navy history to bear the name. Larissa Thune Hargens, a South Dakota native and a graduate of Bethel University in Saint Paul, Minnesota, is the ship’s sponsor. Secretary Phelan said: “This ship represents the skill, dedication, and craftsmanship of the builders, yard workers, and industry partners who brought her from concept to keel commissioning. The leadership and crew of USS Pierre carry forward the pride of their namesake with a steady course and clear purpose. They are backed by the Navy, the Nation, the shipbuilders who brought her to life, and the families whose support and sacrifice make service possible.” The LCS class comprises two separate variants, Freedom and Independence. Lockheed Martin led the construction of the Freedom variant assigned to odd-numbered hulls at Marinette, Wisconsin, while Austal USA constructed even-numbered Independence-variant ships at Mobile, Alabama. The LCS class is designed for rapid deployment in near-shore environments to address contemporary security needs. These ships are classified as small surface combatants but are equipped to counter threats in coastal waters. The LCS is capable of operating independently or alongside larger multi-mission surface combatants such as cruisers and destroyers. Its operational roles include supporting maritime security operations, maintaining sea control, establishing forward presence, and contributing to deterrence strategies within key theatres. Striking workers at Boeing Defense’s (BA.N) St. Louis-area facilities voted to approve the company’s latest contract offer on Thursday, union officials said, ending a 101-day strike that has hampered production of fighter jets and other programs. The roughly 3,200 members of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) District 837 voted 68% in favor of approving the five-year contract. They will start returning to work as early as Sunday.
“IAM District 837 members stood strong and united for over three months,” union leaders said in a statement. “We?re proud of what our members have fought for together and are ready to get back to building the world?s most advanced military aircraft.”
“We’re pleased with the results and look forward to bringing our full team back together on Nov. 17 to support our customers,? a Boeing spokesperson said in an email.
The workers assemble Boeing’s F-15 and F/A-18 fighter jets, the T-7 trainer aircraft, munitions and wing sections for the 777X commercial jet. The strike, which began on August 4, has disrupted F-15 deliveries to the U.S. Air Force and slowed production across several key progr District 837 members had pushed Boeing for a higher ratification bonus and improved retirement plan contributions – closer to terms in Boeing’s deal reached last year with Seattle-area IAM members after a 53-day strike. Boeing, however, throughout the strike, refused to increase the value of its offer, which includes a 24% general wage increase over five years. On Monday, Boeing unilaterally revised its offer, reducing the overall bonus. It increased the upfront cash incentive to $6,000, up from $3,000 in the previous proposal, but cut another $4,000 in bonuses that would have been paid later during the contract’s term. Indra and EDGE plan to establish a new joint venture focused on developing and manufacturing loitering munitions and smart weapons in Spain, together with cooperation across major programmes in Europe. The Advanced Military Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul Center (AMMROC), a leading provider of military aviation MRO services, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Boeing Global Services during Dubai Airshow 2025 to explore collaboration opportunities in component maintenance, repair, and overhaul services and industrial initiatives. Under the terms of the MoU, the parties will work together to explore potential opportunities for CH-47 aircraft component maintenance, repair and overhaul for candidate parts related to hydraulics, landing gear, electrical, and drive systems, as allowed by the U.S. State Department Export Authorization. Both parties intend to jointly assess these potential work opportunities further and may elect to complete a separate written agreement that would define their specific contractual relationship. Embraer (NYSE: EMBJ/ B3: EMBJ3), signed two Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with UAE-based companies AMMROC (Advanced Military Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul Center) and GAL (Global Aerospace Logistics), marking a significant step toward expanding its defense footprint in the Middle East. These strategic agreements aim to explore joint opportunities in the development and support of the Aerospace & Defense sectors, with a particular focus on Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) and training services for the KC-390 Millennium multi-mission military transport aircraft. The MoUs also pave the way for a broader range of collaborative activities across the defense and associated support sectors. Since entering operation with the Brazilian Air Force in 2019, the Portuguese Air Force in 2023 and, with the Hungarian Air Force in 2024, the KC-390 Millennium has proven its capability, reliability, and performance. The current fleet in operation has demonstrated a mission capability rate of 93% and mission completion rates above 99%. The C-390 can carry more payload (26 tons) compared to other medium-sized military transport aircraft and flies faster (470 knots) and farther, being capable of performing a wide range of missions, such as transporting and dropping cargo and troops, medical evacuation, search and rescue, firefighting and humanitarian missions, operating on temporary or unpaved runways, such as packed earth, soil and gravel. The aircraft configured with air-to-air refueling equipment, with the designation KC-390, has already proven its aerial refueling capacity both as a tanker and as a receiver, in this case by receiving fuel from another KC-390 using pods installed under the wings.

19 Nov 25. Experienced executive leader Brad Feldmann and financial management expert John Kavanaugh have been appointed to the QinetiQ SSA Board of Directors. The QinetiQ SSA Board was established in July 2020 after an agreement was reached with the US Defense Counterintelligence & Security Agency, to operate all of QinetiQ US’s defence and security operations under a new Special Security Agreement (SSA). With more than thirty years’ experience as an executive leader at organisations including technology company Neology, defense and transportation company Cubic Corporation, airborne intelligence solutions provider, AEVEX, and the National Defense Industrial Association, Brad has extensive experience in building and scaling businesses through organic growth and acquisitions.
