Kuwait has been cleared to buy Boeing (NYSE:BA – news) Co.-built AH-64 Apache Longbow combat helicopters, the U.S. Defense Department said today, in a long-delayed deal that could be worth $1bn. Kuwait “received approval to receive Apaches including the Longbow variant,” said David Des Roches of the Defense Security Cooperation Agency, the Pentagon arm that handles government-to-government military sales.The Longbow model links a wide range of electronic sensors and weapons into one fully integrated system.The United States had been working with Kuwait on an Apache deal since 1994, Des Roches said. No word was immediately available on when the green light had been given for the Longbow model.“We are cautiously optimistic that they are in fact going to purchase the Apache and we look forward to a long and productive cooperative relationship,” Des Roches said
