ITT LAUNCHES WORLD’S SMALLEST HANDHELD TACTICAL RADIO

April 22, 2002 by

28 Feb 02. ITT Industries’ Aerospace/Communications Division announces the newest member of its family of tactical communications radios at Asian Aerospace 2002 in Singapore and the AUSA Winter Symposium in Fort Lauderdale, FL, on Thursday, February 28, 2002. ITT’s newest offering is the smallest and lightest weight frequency-hopping secure handheld radio available in the world today.

The ITT Handheld Radio is compatible with the world’s best known combat

networking radio, SINCGARS, and conforms to the advanced architecture of

America’s most modern eBattlespace solution, the Joint Tactical Radio System

(JTRS). This permits users to incorporate future advances in military communications by simply updating software rather than by replacing hardware. The radio is truly the spearhead of emerging systems that offer”computer like” programmability.

Weighing in at less than 500 grams or 1.1 pounds (inclusive of the battery and antenna) the ITT Handheld can be configured to meet the demands of individual customers and utilizes country-unique COMSEC and TRANSEC. Itoperates in any combination of clear, encrypted and single channel/frequency-hopping transmission modes.

The Handheld Radio gives individual soldiers lightweight, secure communications anywhere on the battlefield. It builds on the experience ITT has as the only company with a major role in developing the world’s two largest tactical communications programs, Britain’s Bowman and the United States Army’s Tactical Internet. This unique position allows ITT to deliver the most capable and best-tested e-Battlespace solutions to customers worldwide.
