14 Dec 17. Bulgaria turns to Russia for MiG-29 logistics. On 7 December the Ministry of Defence (MoD) in Sofia invited Russian Aircraft Corporation MiG (RSK MiG) to provide the Bulgarian Air Force (BuAF) with integrated logistical support for its 15 MiG-29 ‘Fulcrum’ twin-engine jet fighters for 48 months. The single-source tender is aimed at allowing the BuAF to continue its quick-reaction alert mission from Graf Ignatievo Air Base, near Plovdiv, until Bulgaria acquires a new fighter, which under the most optimistic scenario will happen in 2020–22. The Bulgarian MoD considers RSK MiG, the MiG-29’s manufacturer, to be the only company capable of providing reliable and comprehensive logistical support for the aircraft. (Source: IHS Jane’s)
