14 Nov 17. UK Strategic Support Supplier (SSS) gather speed. Now that the PDS contracts have been placed for Land Rover Wolf and variants, Pinzgauer, Trailers with BAE, Hobsons and Penman and Foxhound with GDELS, all eyes now turn to the Protected Mobility (PM) PDS. Once the winners of the PDS Requirements have been announced all eyes will turn on the Strategic Support Supplier (SSS) contracts. These take the form of Protected Mobility, Armoured and Light Vehicles worth a total of £2.6bn. PQQS are expected to be issued next year for contract award in 2020/21. The winners will be required to support the fleets, agreeing 24/7 availability, supply of parts, upgrades and conversions, service and spares. The usual suspects are expected to bid, individually or in consortia, these include GDELS, BAE Systems, Babcock, Thales, Raytheon, Leidos, TVS, Leonardo and Rheinmetall. The PM SSS is seen as a ‘must win’ for Babcock given the large price paid for DSG. Supporting these bidders are a number of companies including Hobson Industries, NAVISTAR, Supacat, Jankel, Penman, Oldbury and others.
