27 Mar 06. Alliant Techsystems and Boeing have signed a teaming agreement to support the new Israeli Short-Range Ballistic Missile Defense (SRBMD) system, which Boeing is pursuing in partnership with Israel Aircraft Industries (IAI). Under the agreement, ATK will design, fabricate, and assemble the rocket motor and case for the SRBMD interceptor missile. Work will be conducted at ATK’s Manufacturing Center of Excellence in Rocket Center, W. Va., and the company’s composite manufacturing facility in Iuka, Miss. The teaming agreement is the second between ATK’s Mission Systems Group and Boeing Integrated Defense Systems, and follows a similar co-production effort between the two organizations on the IAI Arrow missile defense program. The SRBMD program is a Government of Israel missile defense system to protect against “ripple launches” of either short-range missiles or long-range artillery. The Israeli Missile Defense Organization is expected to select an Israeli-U.S. industry team this spring to move forward on the program.
