27 Sep 06. QinetiQ secures yacht sale for Cerberus diver detection system. QinetiQ has secured the sale of its Cerberus high performance diver and swimmer detection sonar system into the yacht market for the first time. The system will be deployed to protect a large private yacht and its passengers while at anchor or alongside in harbour. Cerberus, designed to provide early warning of underwater threats to ships and other high value assets, has previously been trialled with naval forces around the world and is currently under extended evaluation with the US Navy.

Sep 06. OSI Systems, Inc. announced that its Security and Inspection subsidiary, Rapiscan Systems, received a $3.5m contract from a U.S. Government Agency. The order, for multiple Rapiscan 620XR baggage and parcel inspection X-ray systems, is expected to begin shipping in the second quarter of fiscal 2007. Under the terms of the contract Rapiscan will provide its Rapiscan 620XR X-ray systems which are to be used to screen mail and visitors’ packages at multiple federal facilities throughout the United States.

21 Sep 06. The Department of Homeland Security has awarded a $2bn contract to Boeing Co. to implement a security program along the nation’s northern and southern borders. Financial terms of the contract were not disclosed. The DHS’ Secure Border Initiative is a plan to “to control our borders and stem the flow of illegal immigration,” the DHS said in a statement, and Boeing has been picked to deploy its SBInet program. A MODel of Boeing’s system will be deployed at the southwest border during the next eight months, the DHS said. Boeing’s contract runs for three years, with the potential for three one-year extensions.
The Boeing SBInet core team includes: Centech – Arlington, Va., DRS Surveillance and Reconnaissance Group – Palm Bay, Fla., Kollsman Inc. (an Elbit Systems of America company) – Merrimack, N.H., L-3 Government Services Inc. – Washington, D.C., L-3 Communication Systems West – Salt Lake City, Utah, Lucent Technologies – Murray Hill, N.J., Perot Systems – Plano, Texas, Unisys Global Public Sector – Reston, Va., USIS – Washington, D.C.
