HARRIS ANNOUNCES EMBEDDED SATCOM FACILITY FOR FALCON

June 23, 2002 by

12 Jun 02. Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS), announced the availability of an embedded, fully secure, satellite communications (SATCOM) Internet Protocol (IP)
capability for its Falcon II AN/PRC-117F (C) multiband, multi-mission radio.

Embedded SATCOM IP simplifies operator system configuration and usage, maximizing performance of ultrahigh frequency (UHF) SATCOM networking
operations. The AN/PRC-117F(C) embedded SATCOM IP capability can be used in
conjunction with either 25 KHz or 5 KHz UHF tactical SATCOM channels and provides transparent IP application support with full U.S. Department of Defense
(DoD) Type 1 security. The AN/PRC-117F(C) optimizes IP throughput performanceover UHF tactical SATCOM channels by automatically adapting to dynamic channel conditions.

The embedded SATCOM IP capability eliminates the dependency on expensive external interface boxes used to link to an IP network. The AN/PRC-117F(C)supports a standard Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP) interface through the front panel of the radio, which can be cabled directly to a PC, router or other network device. AN/PRC-117F(C) IP networking parameters are configurable via the front panel of the radio or through existing net management systems using the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP).

When networked, the AN/PRC-117F(C) enables the use of IP-based commercial applications such as e-mail, Web browsers, video teleconferencing, and file transfer protocols. Customized IP-based applications such as those for command and control (C2), tactical messaging, and situational awareness, are also supported.

In addition to the embedded SATCOM IP capability, the AN/PRC-117F(C) also supports SINCGARS ESIP packet mode capabilities and interfaces with
MIL-STD-188-220 capable network controllers in support of the lower tactical Internet.
