24 Apr 25. The IISS Prague Defence Summit. A multi-year agreement has been signed with the Czech government which will see the event take place following a successful inaugural staging in 2024. Designed to inspire major public debate on a range of issues affecting European and transatlantic defence capability, tbe IISS Prague Defence Summit wll convene senior government leaders, defence officials, senior industry representatives, analysis and the media to discuss challenges and opportunities for European defence capability development.
The IISS Prague Defence Summit explicitly aims to translate wider policy goals into a specific implementation agenda focussed on defence innovation and procurement. Discussion points are likely to include defence-industrial cooperation, advances in the military applications of emerging and potentially disruptive technologies, as well as as the requirements for fighting and winning major wars in a multi-domain context. Last year’s Keynote Address was delivered by President of the Czech Republic, General (Retd) Petr Pavel. Other speakers included Admiral Rob Bauer, then Chair of NATO’s Military Committee, Dr Laurynas Kasčiūnas, Minister of National Defence of Lithuania and Hanno Pevkur, Minister of Defence of Estonia.
Dr Bastian Giegerich, Director-General and Chief Executive of the International Institute for Strategic Studies, said, “After a highly succesful staging of the IISS Prague Defence Summit in 2024, we are very pleased to see this event continue in the long term. The importance of the issues raised cannot be overstated and the 2025 edition is likely to prove no exception.”
