Defence Information 25 (DI25) – A New Era for Team Defence

There are major changes coming for UK Defence from a series of reviews and strategies, further spurred on by geopolitical developments.

On 22 May 2025, join us for our next Town Hall at the Thornbury Leisure Centre.
The TD-Info town halls provide an opportunity for our community, both MoD and Industry to meet and discuss the topics du jour. The May townhall will allow our 1* Exec team to brief on their activities in the round as they link to our wider strategy in supporting MoD and Industry.
We’d like you to attend in person if possible to encourage networking but if you can’t come in person, you can register to attend virtually.
SME Showcase

TD-Info’s SME Showcase events provide a platform for our SME (Small-Medium Enterprise) members to present their capabilities to a diverse audience from across the TD-Info membership and MoD. We have seen terrific engagement from the UK MoD and Industry primes over the course of the year, with some invaluable discussions about how SMEs can more effectively interface with Defence procurement processes, as well as how the sector can embrace innovative technologies more successfully. In turn, these discussion have facilitated further engagement between participants.
The next SME Showcase will take place on 15th May, 11:00 – 12:00, online via Teams and will comprise of 3 SME’s presenting an overview of their company and capabilities.

ASD-STE100 Simplified Technical English® (STE) Training Courses

TD-Info’s next ASD-STE100 Simplified Technical English (STE) open, online course takes scheduled for 2,3,4 and 5 June 2025 09:00-12:30 but we need a minimum of 4 delegates to go ahead. We have two people already, so if you’ve considered learning the benefits of writing technical information in STE, please join us!
What is STE?
ASD-STE100 Simplified Technical English (STE) is a controlled language used to write technical documents that are clear, concise, and easy to read.
When you use the principles of STE, your technical information is clear, consistent, accurate and easier to understand. The principles of STE are:
- Controlled Vocabulary: STE uses a dictionary of approved words to avoid ambiguity. Each word has a single, clear meaning.
- Simplified Grammar: STE promotes simple sentence structures and avoids complex grammatical forms.
- Consistency: STE requires consistent terminology and phrasing to prevent confusion.
- Active Voice: STE permits only the active voice for instructions, safety information and descriptions to make the text direct and easier to understand.
- Technical Accuracy: The language is precise and accurate, ensuring that technical details are conveyed correctly.

About the course:
This course is a practical introduction for those who will use STE, like technical authors or engineers in any sector, especially aerospace and defence. The course:
- Explains what STE is and the benefits of using STE to write technical documents.
- Shows you how to navigate the STE standard to get the full benefits of writing in STE.
- Gives you opportunities to use STE in practical exercises.

Pandora Project Live Service for Defence, International and Supply Chain Collaboration

Next Friday, Defence Digital’s Brig. Paul Loader will hosting a webinar to inform industry members about the forthcoming service launch arising from the Defence Digital Pandora Project.
Officially launching on Monday 28th April, the Pandora Project, which has been a joint collaboration between MOD Defence Digital and Sopra Steria, will field the BluejaySecureCollaboration Service which will enable Defence, International and Supply Chain Collaboration.

Integrated Product Support (IPS) CoP

To support the UK MoD and UK industry in improving Supportability Engineering (ILS) standards, processes (technical and management) and training in order to improve the effectiveness and the efficiency of Supportability Engineering (ILS) programmes and hence ultimately to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the Total System (comprising the System of Interest, the Support System and the Concept of Employment). That is, we strive to improve the Whole Life Cost Effectiveness of the “System of Interest”.
This meeting will be a Hybrid meeting in person at TD-Info, Rudgeway and via MS Teams
Not SDR – the Industry view of capability planning to meet 2025’s challenges

This July’s annual Defence Information workshop – “A new era for Defence: what MOD wants from Industry; what Industry needs from MOD” – is an early opportunity to help shape the post-SDR relationship between front-line users of military capability and its industrial suppliers. With the actual SDR not now expected to report before June, we are planning a couple of, intentionally one-sided, seminar/webinars to collate an Industry view of what the capability element of SDR might contain if Industry were writing it.
Two sessions are planned for 1st May, 09:00-10:00 and 13:00-14:00 – each with the following outline agenda:
- Introduction – to include the environmental changes driving the need for a new approach
- Accelerated acquisition/procurement: responding to environmental changes and increased threat levels
- Best-practice from non-Defence industries: eg health, oil & gas etc
- Measuring agility as a KPI: agility more complex than company size
- Implications for managing delivery risk: consequences of failure – benefits of success
(Note that the pm webinar will start with a synopsis of key points from the am session)

Natural Capital & Infrastructure Community of Practice

The Natural Capital & Infrastructure Community of Practice (NC&I CoP) focuses on Natural capital, which is the world’s stock of natural resources, including geology, soils, air, water, and all living organisms. Some natural capital assets provide people with free goods and services, often called ecosystem services and Infrastructure – the basic physical and organisational structures and facilities (e.g. buildings, roads, power supplies) needed for the operation of a society or enterprise.
Community of Practice (CoP)
Co-chaired by Industry and MOD, the CoP group of people who share a common concern, a set of problems, or an interest in a topic and who come together to fulfil both individual and group goals.
Communities of practice share best practices creating new knowledge to advance a domain of professional practice. Interaction on an ongoing basis is an important part of this.
The COP relies on face-to-face meetings as well as web-based collaborative environments to communicate, connect and conduct community activities.

Defence Asset Management Conference – Sharing The Royal Navy’s Journey

The first and hybrid Defence Asset Management Conference, jointly supported by the IAM and Team Defence information, has now been announced.
Background
Following the Defence gathering organised by Liam McKenna (Head of Asset Management at DIO) at the IAM UK Chapter Conference in November 2024, this first Defence Asset Management Conference aims to keep the momentum within the Defence Asset Management community. This event is supported by the IAM UK South-West Branch and Team Defence Information Defence Asset Management Community of Practice (DAM CoP).
What to Expect
While the agenda is still being finalised, the main theme is about the Royal Navy and its organisations sharing their Asset Management journey. We will cover their experience in implementing Asset Management, from an Equipment and Infrastructure perspective, from MOD and Industry view points.
