29 Aug 24. DOD Chief Digital, AI Office Launches Open DAGIR Challenge on Tradewinds. Today, the Department of Defense (DoD) Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Office (CDAO)―in partnership with the Office of Under Secretary of Defense Research and Engineering (OUSD R&E) Joint Fires Network (JFN) and the Defense Innovation Unit (DIU)―launched the Open Data and Applications Government-owned Interoperable Repositories (Open DAGIR) Challenge. The Open DAGIR Challenge is a call for vendors interested in submitting solutions in the contested logistics and sustainment space to support the Department’s Combined Joint All Domain Command & Control (CJADC2) effort. The Challenge will transform the Global Information Dominance Experiments (GIDE) by leveraging the entire industrial base to rapidly apply industry solutions to warfighter needs.
Hosted in the Tradewinds Solutions Marketplace (TSM), the Open DAGIR Challenge will support and combine a highly innovative acquisition process with CJADC2. The initiative has the potential to impact every Combatant Command, and warfighters will witness industry solutions applied immediately to their problem sets in a common CJADC2 global integration decision platform. Warfighters will rapidly share feedback in an iterative fashion, while executing the mission.
The Open DAGIR Challenge was officially published today, and interested vendors can submit their proposals until Sept. 6 by uploading a 5-minute pitch video directly to the TSM announcement. Vendors selected for the Open DAGIR effort will have an opportunity to join the enterprise-level CJADC2 mission.
Selected vendors will be onboarded via the DoD’s new Open Data and Applications Government-owned Interoperable Repositories (Open DAGIR) program. Open DAGIR establishes a multi-vendor ecosystem to enable industry and Government to integrate data platforms, development tools, services, and applications, while preserving the Government’s data ownership and industry’s intellectual property.

About GIDE
GIDE 1-4 were facilitated by the Northern American Aerospace Defense Command and U.S. Northern Command to lead rapid innovation in DoD critical capabilities alongside other combatant commands. In 2023, GIDE transitioned to OSD/CDAO with GIDE 5, expanding collaboration across combatant commands and international partners.
About the CDAO
The CDAO became operational in June 2022 and is dedicated to integrating and optimizing artificial intelligence capabilities across the DoD. The office is responsible for accelerating the DoD’s adoption of data, analytics, and AI, enabling the Department’s digital infrastructure and policy adoption to deliver scalable AI-driven solutions for enterprise and joint use cases, safeguarding the nation against current and emerging threats.

27 Aug 24. ComDef 2024, the 57th conference in the Common Defense series scheduled for September 25th, will have the theme, “Defense Cooperation: Scaling Production at Speed”. The in person event will feature Canada. The program is firming up and most speakers are confirmed.

27 Aug 24. SME Showcase – 26th September, 12:00 – 13:15. Over the past few months, we have been running a series of TD-Info’s Showcasing events, designed initially to give our SME members a platform to demonstrate their Defence Industry capabilities to our wider membership community, and the MOD. We held the first event in October and we are now running them every 6-8 weeks, initially with SME’s, but then to be opened up to our overall membership.
These Showcasing events provide the platform for our SME members to share their capabilities across the Defence ecosystem, look for collaboration and partnering opportunities, and also align to the MOD’s ambitions to increase the percentage of contracted service capabilities going through SME’s.
We have had representation on the events from right across our membership base including from the Defence Primes, Tech Companies, SME’s, Academia and the MOD. We have started to see the fostering of collaboration taking place across the industry, with relationships and partnering underway. The 6th SME Showcase will take place on September 26th – we hope to see you on the call.

EUROCONTROL is organising a high-level workshop on advanced counter-uncrewed aerial systems (C-UAS) and similar solutions and measures, looking at their advantages and limitations, and discussing the way forward for the aviation sector.
The event will take place on 4 November 2024 at EUROCONTROL’s Brussels Headquarters.
“C-UAS systems are an essential part of the airspace security landscape, and with the UAS market growing, there is an increasing need to address unauthorised UAS in European airspace,” EUROCONTROL says.
Workshop participants will have the opportunity to share their views and lessons learned and ask questions during Q&A sessions at the end of each panel. They will also have the chance to visit an exhibition showcasing some of the latest C-UAS solutions on the market.
Specifically, the workshop will explore the solutions which are currently available to protect airports and operationally sensitive areas against unauthorised unmanned aircraft flights; whether current restrictions at airports are sufficient to deal with the threat and what extra measures might be required; what kind of regulation and rules are needed to define clearer roles and responsibilities; and the technology needed to address the whole spectrum of potential threats related to unauthorised drones and UAS.
A detailed agenda will be available closer to the event but EUROCONTROL says the key aims are to discuss the operational aspects related to UAS detection and mitigation; achieve a common understanding on the taxonomy around the subject matter; gain a common understanding of incursion threats and current detection solutions; explore accidents/incidents reporting needs; and discuss contingency measures and procedures.

25 Aug 24. Jordan to Host 13th Annual Warrior Competition. Arab Army will host the 13th annual international Warrior Competition from 25 to 29 August at the King Abdullah II Special Operations Training Center (KASOTC), drawing widespread participation from allied nations. A total of 33 teams representing 20 countries have registered for the event, with an additional 13 nations attending as observers. The competition has garnered global attention for its rigorous challenges designed to test endurance, teamwork, and combat skills, utilizing advanced military missions, weapons, and modern facilities that focus on special forces, counter-terrorism, and internal security operations. This event is part of the Jordanian Armed Forces’ broader training initiatives aimed at enhancing the efficiency and operational readiness of its personnel, ensuring their preparedness to meet future challenges and threats. Jordan created the competition in May 2009. The Annual Warrior Competition is a combat-oriented competition that pits special operations military and police teams against each other. Teams are assessed in events testing physical fitness, marksmanship drills, medical tasks and written exams. Every year the competition is redesigned to reflect the ever-changing threats posed by terrorism. Competing “Warriors” are expected to demonstrate competencies and adaptability of marksmanship, endurance, teamwork, tactics and communications on the battlefield. They are observed and judged by a panel of reputable international experts from various professional military and law enforcement backgrounds. 26 Aug 24. EDGE to Showcase Latest Smart Weapons and Unmanned Aerial Solutions at Egypt International Airshow.
