18 Jul 24. Hanwha to showcase cutting-edge aerospace solutions at Farnborough Airshow 2024.
- • Hanwha’s aerospace and defense enterprises will participate in the Farnborough International Airshow 2024, offering a range of advanced solutions from fighter jet engine, avionics to satellites, space launch vehicle.
- • Hanwha Aerospace is set to unveil the prototype of a homegrown aero turbofan engine designed to power next-generation fighter jet and uncrewed aircraft.
- • Hanwha Aerospace to show off an advanced lineup of space technologies such as the KSLV-II launch vehicle, the SpaceEye-T high performance commercial earth observation satellite.

Hanwha Aerospace will join the 2024 Farnborough International Airshow with a strong presence, offering a range of advanced solutions in the aviation and space domains.
At the biennial event taking place from July 22-26, Hanwha Aerospace will showcase the prototype of a homegrown 15,000lb.-thrust-class turbofan engine on par with GE’s F414. This will be the first unveiling of the Korean aviation engine concept, as the engine is expected to power South Korea’s KF-21 jet fighters in a future tranche and uncrewed combat aircraft as well.
The homegrown engine initiative came after decades of engine manufacturing and production achievements through technical cooperation with global top engine makers. Hanwha Aerospace is the only manufacturer of aero gas turbine engines in South Korea, achieving a major milestone of producing over 10,000 engines in April 2024.
“Leveraging our decades of accumulated experience and exceptional expertise in aircraft engine manufacturing, we’re fully committed to developing an aero turbofan engine of our own technology,” said Executive Vice President Mr. Kim Won-wook, Head of Advanced Aero Engine Business Unit. “With the successful development of K-21 fighter jets, and growing defense industry capabilities in Korea, we are confident in the success of our endeavor.”
Hanwha Systems will offer a series of innovative avionics systems technologies, including active electronically scanned array (AESA) radars for different types of combat aircraft.
“This is a key strength of Hanwha,” said Mr. Park Hyuk, Head of Surveillance & Reconnaissance Business Division at Hanwha Systems. “From engines to radars and sensors, Hanwha has a full capability to supply core components and technologies for making sophisticated fighter jets.”
Hanwha’s cutting-edge space technologies will also be shown off at the show, as Hanwha Aerospace is taking the lead of South Korean efforts to advance its space launch capability. The homegrown KSLV-II space launch vehicle will be displayed in a mock-up, along with SpaceEye-T, the world’s highest resolution commercial earth observation satellite.
Also known as Nuri, the KSLV-II is a three-stage launch vehicle with a payload capacity of a 1.5-ton to Sun-synchronous orbit (SSO). As the systems integrator, Hanwha Aerospace will take charge of KSLV-II’s future launch missions through 2027.
Built by Satrec-I, a subsidiary of Hanwha Aerospace, SpaceEye-T is capable of identifying the type of vehicle on the road from space, using its super resolution 0.3m imagery capabilities. In addition, Hanwha Systems will showcase its small synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellite, which has been in orbit since December 2023.

16 Jul 24. Japan, US and Australia join forces for first information warfare event. International military personnel have gathered for Exercise Blue Spectrum, the first information warfare event involving Japan, the US, and Australia.
Sailors and officers from the Cyber Forces Group, the United States Navy, and the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) attended the first iteration of Exercise Blue Spectrum in Sydney.
“The Royal Australian Navy has hosted the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force and US Navy for the first iteration of the Cyberspace Defence exercise, Exercise Blue Spectrum,” according to the Department of Defence.
“This is the first trilateral information warfare event to occur since the signing of the memorandum of JMSDF-US Pacific Fleet-Royal Australian Navy IW Cooperation.”
The Trilateral Maritime Information Warfare Working Group Guidance Memorandum was signed between the JMSDF, RAN, and US Pacific Fleet in April this year.
The memorandum is intended to deepen cooperation of all partners on non-kinetic information operations related to intelligence, communications, meteorology/oceanography, electromagnetic, cyber and space domains, in addition to kinetic operations of the three fleets.
“This is a perfect opportunity to put into practice the tight cooperation our leadership codified in writing just a few weeks earlier,” said US Navy Captain Errol Laumann, Information Warfare Commander for CSG 5, about the signing earlier this year.
“Our work together during this deployment proves we can quickly and tangibly implement this deeper information warfare coordination, expanding the scope and clarity of our shared battlespace awareness.
“As we continue to improve our IW interoperability, we ensure our navies can react seamlessly as a unified force to any emergency or crisis.”
The US Navy’s Information Warfare Community includes personnel specialising in intelligence, cryptology, cyber warfare, information technology and meteorology and oceanography.
It’s mission is to defeat any adversary by using assured command and control, battlespace awareness, and integrated fires to achieve freedom of manoeuvre across all warfighting domains.

Frontline decision-making in high-pressure situations is challenging, but the latest thermal imaging cameras help shoulder the burden. Everything gives off thermal energy; a so-called ‘heat signature’. When two adjacent objects have even subtly different heat signatures they show up clearly to a thermal sensor, regardless of lighting conditions. This allows thermal cameras to see in complete darkness or smoke-filled environments, making them ideal for use in combat situations.
Teledyne FLIR has been partnering with armed forces around the world for many years, helping the military to detect, assess and track targets. FLIR infrared cameras offer critical advantages for defence applications, such as high-speed frame rate for real-time data capture, and spatial resolution for greater detail and precise identification. In addition, spectral filters provide targeted imaging for enhanced detection.
Among the event’s key topics will be finding resolution in a distant image, measuring at the speed of light and the challenges of infrared radiance measurement. Software, a critical component of any infrared camera, provides a further focus area.
Defence Day 2024 will take place in Salisbury, Wiltshire. The United States Air Force, Navy and Army are celebrating the prosperous partnership between the USA and the UK with an increased aircraft presence at the Farnborough International Airshow, taking place 22-26 July 2024 in Hampshire, UK.
The U.S military will be showcasing 13 aircraft from its Air Force, Navy and Army as part of its participation at the world’s most international airshow, including B52, F-15, F-35, F-16M, F-35A, P-8, CH-47F, AH-64E, UH-60V, C-130J and MQ-9.

ADS Group, the UK trade association for the aerospace, defence, security and space sectors, and Farnborough International are launching the UK Government Hub at Farnborough International Airshow 2024. The Hub provides a dedicated platform for 10 government departments and agencies to collaborate directly with UK businesses.
The Government Hub provides political, industry and international stakeholders a unique platform to elevate an incoming government’s backing for UK aerospace, defence and space, reflecting the combined convening power of ADS and Farnborough International.
The Government Hub will operate cohesively with Farnborough International Airshow’s world-renowned international delegations programme.
