May 06. ParcAberporth 6-7 July 2006. Seven leading players in the UAV sector have applied to fly ten systems at ParcAberporth Unmanned Systems 2006 (PAUS2006) where a key focus will be on civil and commercial uses. All the UAV systems are tried and tested and event organisers are optimistic they will gain CAA certification approval to fly on July 6/7. The ParcAberporth event is the only exhibition in Europe this year featuring flying demonstrations of unmanned systems. The UAV platforms range in size from a micro system weighing just 275gms, which can be launched by hand, to an aircraft with a 7.3 metre wingspan that will take off from West Wales Airport runway. The systems will be carrying and demonstrating a wide range of sensors and will participate in a number of scenarios designed to illustrate the potential role that unmanned systems can play in a variety of markets. Included in the various scenarios being explored are live sports coverage, sea rescue and drug smuggling intervention, vehicle tracking and perimeter fencing control using an unmanned ground vehicle. Potential end users of these technologies which include the police force, coastguards, search and rescue organisations as well as organisations involved in survey work will be invited to attend the event to see the capability of these systems at first hand.
