01 Feb 13. Army participation approved for AUSA Winter Symposium. The secretary of the Army, John M. McHugh, has approved Army participation in the annual Association of the United States Army Winter Symposium and Exposition to be held at the Broward County Convention Center in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Feb 20-22. Acknowledged by all participants as a “professional development forum,” the Winter Symposium, produced by the Association’s Institute of Land Warfare, will focus this year on “America’s Next Battle: Manning, Training, and Equipping.” The exposition will have over 100 defense industry exhibits that, according to AUSA officials, “will dramatically portray the technology needed to develop all aspects for the Future Force – including, arms, equipment and vehicles.” Presentations and panel discussions by Army and industry leaders, to include Gen. Robert Cone, commander, U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command, and Gen. Dennis L. Via, commander, U.S. Army Material Command, will focus on strategic land power, modernization, better buying power and affordability, science and technology priorities, the global supply chain, sustainment, and industrial base partnering, and other defense topics.
